The entire point of a diss track is to discredit and destroy the "opponents" lyrics. Em dissected every single bar from Rap Devil. And like he pointed out, you don't give compliments in diss tracks. MGK tried to do a rap battle diss "track", maybe I'm just old school bc Rap Devil sounded more like a song, and Em did what he does best. He wasn't even trying. It took him 13 mins to write this.
- There's a movie, Killshot, where a guy named Colsen has a hitman sent after him and is eventually killed by a police marshal.
-Patrick Swayze was in movie Ghost but also he passed away on Sept 14, 2009 and Tupac died on Sept. 13, 1996. Killshot was released September 14, 2018. Em just thinks of so many small details.

If this were a rap battle, then YES, Eminem may have overcame all of his fails .........(ridiculously late response, speaking on the beef before doing so on wax, waiting 6 years to callout MGK, no video to match, no addressing of the industry behind the scenes hatred, .....and not handling this in the way of "the art of rap" from day one). He was more clever with his lyrics as expected.
Unfortunately, this was never a rap battle. In the words of the late Tupac Shakur on "Hit Em Up" ...T'his ain't no freestyle battle'
Like "No Vaseline" and "Hit Em Up" show repeatedly, ...there's a difference expectancy in what needs to be displayed in diss tracks (which these were). WHO,WHAT,WHEN,WHERE,HOW, ...and WHY is the beef going on in the first place.

Eminem tried to skate all the traditions because he knew he had fan support to get away with it (or at least he'd hoped).
In the end, it was Em' who miscalculated the possibilities of what could've happened when he surprise dissed a bunch of folks who he, clearly, didn't expect to get a response from.

MGK, turned out to be that dude.
Not only was he unafraid of the legend ............ he apparently had a whole lot of dirt on Eminem's shady background moves made to undercut a label mate's career.
Plus, he was a once proud Stan.
All of these things added up to a bad situation for Em but the biggest miscue turns out to be ........Machine Gun Kelly is pretty damn good and resilient as a muthaf*cka.
Eventually, his talent would overcome all the smoke and mirrors & the pieces would fall into place. Things make sense now.
Pop music fans can blur out the truth because they operate from the mindset of a different culture. By their standard, these things can be decided like meaningless popularity contests.
This, is rap music, which is a part of a different culture called Hip Hop. We are loyal to the culture.......not it's artists.
These men weren't beefing over who's got the better bars. This was beef. There are other means of competing under those terms. This wasn't it.
Under those realities, .......... Eminem lost (and it wasn't even close).
I don't blame MGK for being so upset that the initial reaction was so off. He played by the rules from day one.
- Never said Eminem's name until called out.
- Responded within 3 days time.
- Addressed and exposed all the real substance behind his beef.
- Dropped a video
- Came at Eminem in a way no one ever expected, including the rap god himself.

There's a line in Kill Shot that most people don't catch. When he says, "one call to Interscope and you're Swayze". Obviously, he's saying he can make one call and kill MGK's career, but what people miss is that Kill Shot was released on the anniversary of Patrick Swayze's death. Just the date of release is a double entendre.

Rap Devil is up there with in the top 3 disses against Em but the rapping was very average. Em destroyed him with double and triple entandres and wordplay. The bar "saying you'll run up on me like a phone bill spraying lead (cause you run up a bill), playing dead that's the only time you'll hold still ( hold steel as in hold a gun)" was crazy.

Nice reaction! I respect your opinion. But are you really giving power to someone your dissing by rebutalling things? I mean MGK was talking a lot of ish in his diss. If you just ignore it and keep rapping about something else your kinda sending the message that what was said is true and part of dissing back is taking the steam out of peoples argument. Stuff like the rihanna stuff was just em trading outlandish lines with MGK’s outlandish line to just correct him. Also, attention to cadence is important here. It can sound cringy when he goes “stan, stan, son, listen, man, dad, isn’t, mad, but how you gonna, name yourself, after a damn gun, and have a man bun”. But notice how hes calling him stan and his son and the way hes talking to MGK like hes trying to calm down his mad young stan son cuz MGK was pretty pissed in his diss. Its an insulting way to respond to someone and not taking them seriously. XD then he takes a jab at his credibility as a gangsta after claiming to name himself after one. Also, MGK has expressed on wax that Ems diss damaged him mentally. Em definitely wasn’t too mad at MGK or taking him seriously but his diss gained enough traction that it came onto his radar. He could just outbar him but he already did that before rap devil. Before he wasn’t focusing on MGK outside of just taking shots while lyrically trying to overwhelm him, here he started to actually focus on him while not taking him seriously enough or mad enough to just wanna outrap him. Also another key thing to point out is Em expressed in recent interview at this time is that he wanted to destroy MGK, but he also didn’t wanna make him bigger. So it stands to reason he wanted to destroy him without making too much of a spectacle out of the track like hes done in the past.

I just love that he took literally every single thing nerf gun said and addressed it or flipped it back on him and when listening to this I dont feel like he is talking to anyone but Nerf directly. He doesnt sing or use autotune. He doesnt kiss as while diss at the same time. He goes in and enjoys it and has fun with it. There is a lot of little details that throughout that I've seen so many people not catch including the starter cap which is crazy because it's literally one of Em biggest songs and he showed everyone that he really is Stan.

Personally, I love when someone turns their opponent's words back on to them, but in many ways Eminem could have hit a lot harder if he had just raised an eyebrow and said, "As long as I am Shady you will have to live in my shadow."

Still, I think that the thing about flipping someone's lines is that - while it does give them the power of knowing you responded - it also tosses the ball right back into their court. If you cant answer, your own shot did worse than miss, it gives your opponent the point.

I like Em going after Diddy. It was disrespectful to MGK for Em to start going over his head. And ultimately, Diddy gave the ok to proceed with Rap Devil and the way for Em to squash the beefs in the future was to go at the funding source which is Diddy. It was a crazy shock to hear though, I totally agree with that.
In terms of rapping, Not Alike already targeted MGK and showed Em’s clear superiority as a rapper. So, I’m fine with Killshot being more of a battle rap style response (rebutting each of his comments, etc.). But that’s personal taste.
Ultimately, imo, Rap Devil was a catchier song and MGK showed balls going after Em. But, imo Killshot was clearly more personal, pointed, and disrespectful than Rap Devil.

Lemme explain the diddy putting out a hit on pac line. Mgk got pacman tattooed on his neck, that's why eminem was playing pacman arcade before he released killshot. Mgk under diddy and had to ask diddy to go after eminem. Mgk being "pac" (for pacman). So diddy never admit that he gave the green light for mgk(pacman or pac) to go after eminem who killed him on killshot (eminem killing mgk) . Hope this clears up why he put that controversial double entendre in the diss

Eminem didn't just win this beef. He mopped the floor with MGK, threw MGK in the trash, then threw the trash into a woodchipper. Without even really considering the bars in this song, the 4-D chess level of intellect that Em is playing with is unfair. Some fun facts to consider about this song:
This song is titled "Killshot". There's a movie with the same name that's about a hitman that's kills a character named Colson (same as MGK's name: Colson Baker).
This song came out on September 14, the same day that Patrick Swayze died (hence the Swayze line in the song). It also came out one day after Tupac was killed - another reference to the song where he talks about Diddy ordering the hit.
Not including all the other bars in this song, Em even throws in a quadruple entendre just for fun ("the game's mine again and ain't nothing changed but the locks / so before I slay this bitch, ah mwah, give Jade a kiss" (1. He is acknowledging his lines by countering them sure (like you said in the video) but he still nullified them .

Eminem is a battle rapper by nature, which is why he was responding to MGK lines as a rebuttle. Also, Eminem is too big to learn about MGK and attack him with personals, its just not worth his time and pen. MGK on the other hand is a stan and knows everything about Em's life, hence the personals. Finally, as Em mentioned in the interview with Sway, MGK is not even in the rap conversation for him, so he never bothered to go at him like that. Honestly, this beef was over before MGK even responded cuz Em demolished him on Not Alike.

I actually read this diss as Em attacking MGK’s confidence in being able to diss at all by deconstructing his whole song (which did have a lot of playground insults, regardless of how personal). And beyond that, Diddie produces MGK and it seems from this song that Em thinks he’s the one that likely encouraged MGK in this course of action. Basically a ‘stop hiding behind your artist’ thing. But that’s just my opinion.

I don't know if anybody told u this already but MGK killed himself after killshot. he had a killshot shirt on to troll Em. had a concert, got the crowd hyped up turned around and made a selfie-video, after he untied his jacket, so you could see the shirt. everybody who didn't know it was a set-up, thought that those people were on MGKs side, till he turned around again and had people booing and leaving. and then he switched genres.

What gets the most crowd reaction and always give you the edge is if you can rebutal the lines of your opponents. It also proofs that there is no possibility of being pre written.
I was always very good with rebutals and that made me win a lot of times.

This then gives a double meaning to the line that follows: "you just dissed me, (I'M PERPLEXED)" to say he's perplexed about MGK's bars - & - He is perplexed from contradicting himself in the opening 2 lines i.e. if you give someone HICKIES, The opposite would be to HIT them.. Finally the "(JUST HIT ME) on a text" & "(LAST NIGHT) + (LEFT HICKIES) on her neck" is also a metaphor for how quickly MGK turned from Stan to Hater.
