- BRONDA = Briggs and Stratton 5 hp flathead plus a predator 212cc (Honda clone) carburetor. I TIG welded a custom stainless steel intake and exhaust system for this Frankenstein modification. The engine mod sounds amazing and really hits some higher RPM's with the governor removed, new 140 emulsion tube and #36 jet.

Awesome videos my bro! Thank you for taking time to post these videos!! they're very informative..
Cool vid, thanks for sharing!exactly what that engine needed from day one!
Bronda's got what karts crave.
Amra It’s got Electrolytes😂
I'm successfully running a 24mm oko carburetor, on a stock Predator 212, no gov. and a homemade header. It only has a VERY mild intake port. It toke lots of tuning, but now runs perfect. =)
dang spitting flames
That's the coolest thing I've seen all day!
parley Kelsch thanks! A few people commenting on this video has inspired me to put it on my daughters mini bike. I'll be posting a video of that within the next 2 months.
That's wonderful man and it sounds great, good job. I need to get some of those tools you have haha
I really like the exhaust on there i might build one myself and thank you for uploading the video you don't get many videos like this
No problem. I appreciate the comment! I love doing this stuff and sharing it and that means a lot!
Great Job and Fabrication !
thanks
Very nice 👍🏾 This engine runs great with that carb good job bro 4 sure
love that exhaust i want one!!
That’s a nice exhaust wish something like that was on the market I need one for my Briggs 3hp
i really like the exhaust header it looks cool
kool upgrade
Finished my bronda and its pretty awesome. U can find the adapter on amazon and the carb for about 12$. And then i just made a plumbing isle exhaust with a screw in muffler.
Cool mate I like this.
im in the middle of making my header now, next will be the intake. im going to run it on gps again after to see if it got faster. last time mine hit 30mph with a tecumseh 6hp.
Pretty slick.
Nice fab work man
+glennspeeds thanks man. Ill be putting it on a mini bike by the end of the year :D
Fun little tip, take a blowtorch and torch the outside of the exhaust pipe, to make it have a colored rainbow effect because of the heat, in my opinion it would make the exhaust on this go kart look awesome!
That looks great and sounds even better!
You could market those, seriously.
I would buy one. I haven't had time to work on mine yet.
I totally would make more, but TIME is one thing that I don't have a lot of. This took a long time to make, and I just wanted to try it out. There are already adapters out there, just gotta search for them. (obviously not as awesome as the one I made, but they are still pretty good :-)
smart idea with the carb!!!!!!
Loving it
Thanks. Its going on a Digital Camo painted mini bike by Christmas, 2014.
That is sick man nice job, good idea, and starts on the first pull. What could be better?
Sounds like a beast!
Very Cool Man !!!
Thanks! I'm still trying to figure out if I want this on a small go kart or a mini bike. Will have it on something fast by the end of the year though. It's going to rip it up!
That’s bad ass 😎
Ok thank you a lot 👍🏻 thank you for replying so fast too
If I were to do the same thing as you with the carb (predator 212) how would I connect the gas tank to the carb?
Custom BRONDA motor, genius!
so you just need a carb and nothing else after governor removal?
Thats badass.
Ive been looking everywere to try to find a custom intake manifold like the one you made to put a mikuni on a 5hp b&s.. Havnt found one yet.
look at stoutracingengines online, they have a number, maybe they can make one for you?
I might of missed it but what size carburettor is it and where did u get it from?
Any chance you sell the adapters for intake? have 2 horizontal briggs in need of carb change and dont have plasma cutter, or tig, only MMA
Hey kart fab do you think this would work with a 3 horse or something? I have what I believe to be a 3 horse Briggs and not sure if this could work or not.
Nice tig work. I'm super armature at this stuff and need much more patience and steady hand to have better outcome.
Haha! I'm going to build one over the winter for a pit/play bike at the drag strip. I'm going to use a Clone 212 making close to 30hp with a cvt trans. oh yeah, will have make wheelie bars too lol
+glennspeeds nice!!! msg me with the video when complete I always like watching videos of mini bikes/go karts. Seems like there aren't enough of them on youtube.
Thank you for making this video! I was thinking of putting a mikuni carb on mine, but this is way cheaper! I picked up a predator carb for $10 shipped and will do the welding this weekend :)
+kazankophsmash no prob. You can check out the final linkage on my mini bike race video. I also modified a throttle linkage kit to fit on the head of my Briggs. The kit was for the predator 212/gx200, costs 6$ on eBay.
Well I guess guess I wont be doing it after all. The 5hp briggs was stored outside and intake valve got rusted and stuck in the open postiton.I took off the head to do a valve job on it and found major scouring on the cylinder wall. It was my older brothers minibike project from 10 years ago and he ran it with no air filter . So all that sand and debris pretty much destroyed the motor. I took a video of what it looks like, its very bad! I'm posting it to my channel later if you want to see
How much would you charge to make me to ofnthe exact same exhaust headers and 2 intakes? The same ones in the video
Cool! Post a video when you get it done :)
Will do, if I'm still alive after riding it haha!
How did u get it to spit flames
What kind of fuel pump should I use?and can you make a video showing how the BRONDA engine will use the breather tube hole on the side of the engine (is this also the vacuum tube?) to run the fuel pump? I'm thinking I need to add a barb but am not sure how to do it
+Jason Kenney no. No vent to pump from valve cover or you over pressurize your crankcase. They have the carb insulators that are plastic with a barb already attached that's how you do it.
I love the Clonda engines. But they have the worst habit of cranking on the first pull after setting for several months. That carburetor is so simple and efficient it's hard to put into words. Not only the carburetor is useful but also the Clonda coils on old obsolete engines. I have a cast iron 14 HP Briggs that always ran hot because of ignition. Made an adapter and filed the coil to fit the flywheel. It runs so much cooler and big time better. I had forgotten but I need to swap out the temperamental Briggs carb out with a 13 HP Clonda carburetor. Being it's on a 1971 Sears Suburban I gotta make governor linkage. I'll have several people stop while out mowing with this classic just to look it over and ask about how I keep it running so well. The Briggs carburetor is still a constant adjustment issue but the Honda clone should put that problem to rest.
Yep, and if you look at my 'mini bike race' video, then you can see a nice shot of how i linked up the throttle. I used a 6.5 hp clone engine 'direct throttle linkage kit" for it, and modified it a bit.
When you use that polishing compound will it prevent the header from rusting?
No, but you could scuff up the header with a wire wheel then paint it with header paint (ceramic).
Was the mounting bolts for predaror carb the same distance from each other as the stock carb for a flat head ?
No
thanks
Can you just bolt the carb straight to the motor or do you have to a space I got the same motor but bad tank. Thanks for the video
+Chevy Man i dont know if the bolt pattern is the same for the carbs, (i highly doubt it, or even if it was you couldnt get a header to fit on it). Also, if you want a bolt on solution do not do this as it requires fabrication. A bolt on solution would be a mikuni or similiar 22mm carb, and an intake manifold adaptor, and a pulse pump. I would look at the briggs racing engines to see the setup they use. I know this stuff is out there, it is a bolt on solution, and does not require fabrication.
That's what I'm looking for just something I can bolt on as I'm not nowheres good to do any of that kind of weld
I don't have the skills or means to make the carburetor adapter. I have a Briggs and Stratton 5HP engine and want to put on a better carb so the predator 212 is cheap and your video makes it look like a great upgrade. Any chance you sell a premade adapter/intake?
unfortunately no, but you can get a mikuni or tillotson carb and i know adapters exist for that that are already made, with a better carb.
Tecumseh has adapter that can be made to work.
Did u block off the breather? I'm doing the exact same thing but it's for a drift trike
No, you should never block the breather tube. I ended up taking some clear fuel line for go kart race engines and routed it to the breather tube
if you take out the muffler and put a straight pipe does it add power or take away power, and how does that work?
Depends. If you put a large pile it slows exhaust flow and reduces torque. Exhaust flow needs to be hot and fast so a normal inner diameter pipe (same size as port or slightly smaller) is fine. Straight pipe is less restrictive to flow.
how do you stop the chrome exhaust from rusting please tell me
+Luxxy HD it's not chrome, it's stainless steel.
Is there a way to cut out the flanges without using a plasma cutter. I want to do the same mod with a tecumseh.
Yes. Any metal cutting tool will work. I would drill out the holes first, then enlarge the exhaust hole with a Dremel and carbide bit to gasket match it. Use a grinder or the carbide bit to round off the flange edges. So a drill, double cut carbide burr, and angle grinder with metal cut off wheel.
ok... i have a baja mini bike and trying to do the bronda thing ..thanks
good luck!
OK WILL DO!
What do you charge for one of those intakes for a 5hp Briggs with a 2 bolt hole intake mounting on the block and a PZ style flange on the carb end? Thanks.
i dont make them for people but you can google it on OMB forum. There is a guy that does that. Cant remember the name off the top of my head.
Hi I have the same engine but I have a stock carb and it has a breather tube do I need to keep that on or can I just remove it Cuse it fell off and it's hard to put back on ??
+Nick Donato you can buy a new breather tube for like $5, remove it, or keep the old one. The breather tube just exhausts the valve cover exhaust, and keeps the emissions down. If you have it vent to atmosphere all the tree huggers will cry and you will feel guilty for polluting the world we live in.
what is the size of that engine shaft? I need a new clutch and need to buy right size. My engine looks like yours.
3/4”
what thickness steel did you use for the carb mounts?
+Lucas Kiewitz 3/16" but 1/4" is best
I've got a honda gx270 and I was wondering if I took of the governor would I need a alloy flywheel ?
Only if you took it above 5500 rpm.
First thing to do would be:
1) remove governor, add direct throttle kit, install tachometer
2) high flow intake and exhaust, reject
3) alloy flywheel w/heavier lb valve springs
Hope that helps. Just keep it at 5500 rpm max w/o flywheel and you will be fine.
Myh
Where did you get the carb and air filter
+Mindtone here: www.gopowersports.com/predator-performance-air-filter-with-adapter-and-upgrade-jet/#aid=2986
carb is just a standard predator 212cc carb
does the intake have to be at that angle u Said it was at or no because I want to do this o my briggs
Carburetor has to be level.
ive got a B&S flat head 5hp, and I removed the governor, and I was wondering how I would connect a throttle cable to it for a mini bike
+Joey Heider I don't know. Never done it.
okay,
Brawndo has what plants crave.
i put the same carb on my 5 hp briggs same year i beleive with identical intake manifold but it will only idle at choke and run high rpms with no choke like it needs tuned. any tips?
Needs .033-037” main jet.
@@KartFab alright thank you!
I think that you can order exhaust pipe on BMI..... ill be ordering one soon but anyways great video keep it up!
Yep, BMI is a good company for kart parts. Not as awesome as making it yourself, but still pretty good :-)
I should have looked through your videos more, It looks pretty basic to make so I might as well try and make this, Gunna have to use that ugly flux core wire though lol, Thanks for the great video!
+Mark Bowen i made it out of stainless steel. Do not make one out of mild steel, it will rust.
I can just paint it and use fuel tank sealer on the inside or something similar, should be fine
Well maybe not fuel tank sealer that close to the hot engine
flames 😍
usually if you clean the carbon from inside your engine/keep the engine in good condition it'll spit flames, mine does lol
Is it only the exhaust causing it to pop and backfire or is there more to it?
It could be the following:
1) the air to fuel ratio is "rich" more fuel than is necessary is in the air, unburnt fuel is escaping into the exhaust
2) the valves are floating due to excessive RPM's, allowing a tiny bit of unburnt fuel to escape into the exhaust by skipping the combustion cycle.
But then again I really am not sure.
Yeah right after posting I thought it could be running rich.
It does sound pretty good though
how did you get out the flames from the exhaust, please answer me
That just occurs naturally.
Back fires out of the exhaust usually is from not enough back pressure mixed also with a rich fuel air ratio.
+Chris Carson The rich fuel air ratio if from the engine decelerating with the throttle closed causing it to pull excess fuel and not as much air causing the fuel to ignite in the exhaust thus shooting a flame.
Do you have a video on how the throttle linkage might work after doing this mod
Check out my mini bike race video it’s in there somewhere kart-it vs me
KartFab do you have a link please
czcams.com/video/2iy0FTAd9oE/video.html
BRONDA!!
That's how a guy at school Lost his fingers by holding the pipe as he Polish it
That sucks
will the gx200 carb work on a 3hp briggs?
I don't know. Maybe the smaller carb would. Try getting a carb for an engine of similar displacement.
+KartFab ok thanks
are there any stock intakes you can use??
Thought I seen a article were they said a tecumseh intake will work?... ether way I'm building one..!!!
+Bj Jefferies beats me. I do know there are prefabbed intakes though.
could you tell me where you got the carburetor? like a link or something.
Hey man, I just created amazon links to the whole setup in the video description. Hope that helps!
KartFab you are a saint.
@@KartFab what's your opinion on the tillotson tct mechanical fuel injection carb it would be a direct replacement for the 212 carb
@@kevinjohnson9372 id rather get vm22 or tm24 slide carb IMO.
I want to install a gx200 clone carb on my 3.5hp briggs. Will it work as well?
the carb might be a little big for that briggs. You may run into some idle or jetting issues. As a rule of thumb you want the intake venturi of the carb to be 2mm smaller than the diameter of the intake valve.
KartFab thanks for the answer. I'll test it and keep you posted
If it helps, after taking my briggs e550 140cc push mower carb apart 3 times in 2 years to clean it. I finally found that the paper thin float bowl had cracked.
I had an extra Predator 212cc carb laying around, used it instead, runs better than the original.
I added intake and exhaust plus rejet, but what have yall done with the gas tank vent? just leave it open???
Youre going to have to be more specific here. I dont even know what engine you are talking about.
predator 212cc, aka honda clone...has a gas tank vent on top of the tank that used to lead to the stock airbox, but now after I put a whole new air filter on it, there isn't anywhere to attach the hose coming from the vent at the top of the tank...
got it. Its a one way check valve there, it just vents the excess vapors from the tank to the airbox. You dont have to do anything with it. The valve cover though needs to be vented to atmosphere, most people get a small air filter and a hose clamp and vent it to atmosphere or a catch can.
Oh ok...ty...maybe I over filled the tank, when I start it, gas just pours out of it
yeah, you are only supposed to fill the tank maybe 3 " below the top. If you plug the line, it could cause a vacuum in the tank. I am not sure if the tank has a vented or unvented cap. If the cap is vented, you can plug the line no big deal, if it is not vented, if you plug the line, it could cause some weird running and eventually the engine could cut out because of the vaccum in the tank.
Wow
I wish I had a welder just got a Briggs 3hp
Man I really need more practice with a plasma cutter. Nice fabrication.
Thanks for the comment, takes a while to get used to the cutting, but once you get the hang of it, it feels like drawing.
***** I've only used it to cut strut towers off cars and cut out rectangle strips. Those circles will be the hardest.
Hey man I just did this same exact thing (Putting a Honda carb on a briggs 5hp flathead) and it runs, but it doesn't idle very well. it surges. WHY!? We have been trying to tune it and it keeps doing it. help?
Did you make a return spring for throttle butterfly?
+KartFab no we are holding it with out finger so it doesn't vibrate around
okay, we put one on but it still wont stop doing it and now it starts then dies.
Could be 1 of three things, but it is not getting enough fuel.
1) dirty carb - clean it out, esp the jet.
2) you have the fuel cut off switch to "off"
3) you have a vaccum leak - the mating surfaces of the adapter between carb and engine are warped or flat. You will need to sand them down in a figure 8 pattern on a flat surface.
what pipe did you use?
read description
+KartFab ok thanks
I need an intake set up for my built 5hp flathead .. can I buy one anywhere? Or can you do one and I'll pay you.
Check out omb forum a guy builds them there
Where you get adaptor
Made it
Does that carb have fuel needle?
+fridz magnuson it has a float needle.
so does tecumseh engines, but they also have adjusting needles, both high speed and low speed, for fuel/air mixture
oohhh ok gotcha. It has idle mixture needle, idle speed screw, and that's it. No additional fuel adjustments unless you change emulsion tube or main jet.
Will this work on a 20 hp lawn mower engine? Can you respond quickly
+kmarty211 Sure.. I'll respond quickly, and here is your answer. Maybe. You figure it out.
Could I possibly pay you to make a set of those for me? I'm in need for a nice intake and exhaust.
And on the gx200 on ur modified Briggs 5hp engine where is the gas tank on it I didn't see one
?
+Nick Donato there is no gas tank, i have to use an external one.
+KartFab can i use a 140cc 26mm pitbike carb on a honda gx 200 clone and is it safe to use it ?
beats me. I can tell you though that the 22 mm mikuni carbs are used on teh briggs (they are 206cc) its a matter of air flow, and jetting really. too big, and you dont get a good power band, to small and it is too restrictive and wont rev high.
+KartFab my Briggs today was running wrong so I have the same one u have I started it I had to pour gas is the carb so it would start and the only way it would idle is on choke right when is switched it to run it stalled and when I apply gas on run it stalls what's the problem can u help me out
it tilted on the table😮👍
what kind of motor is that?
+Tyler Wilcox Briggs 5 hp flathead
Now you should do a predator 420 carb on a bigger briggs.
+Parker Barandon Too many engines, I got a honda gx620 i just fixed up though.
how much hp does it make?
No idea
My stock honda gx160 spits blue flames
did you use steal of aloy
+luxxy HD What?
KartFab i think he meant steel or alloy for the exhaust
You want to sell any of those customer exhausts?
what motor is that exactly
+Ben Olson Briggs 5hp flathead
thanks
Ok can u send me the links to the air filter and the carb bc I'm looking
Into buying three parts for my go kart
So can you tig weld?
+KartFab no
google, mikuni 22 mm carb and intake manifold adapter for briggs 5 hp flathead, that should get you a good start. (also tillotson)
+KartFab ok thanks
+KartFab do u have a email so I can ask questions?
KartFab how much do you want right now to make me that Intake manifold ?
theres a guy on omb warehouse forum under the bronda thread that made the intake for a few of his engines. Message him and he will make you some.
What options do I have for a Tecumseh 172cc for more power and more RPM
the biggest gains you will get will be from replacing the intake and exhaust with performance/high flow, then rejetting.
