    The Air Arms TX200 is a beast of a gun I'm still using mine and it's over 17 years old.. had its first service last week.. now that is what you call a well built gun...
    The recoil is sweet and easy to get use to.
    I'm now using a hw100 st and as much as I love it, it is very easy to shoot and I find the spring guns make you a better shot once you know the gun....
    No matter what you will never beat practice...
    Round down range and time behind the gun is what makes you a better shot...

    Oh, and Mr Jim Chapman. If you get contacted by a guy from Michigan named Mike Avery, host of a hunting radio show here in Michigan, it was me who contacted him to contact you to see if he/you will do show segments talking about the capabilities of airguns. Maybe you can talk the state into letting us use airbolts on big game in Michigan, where crossbows are legal.

    I have learned a lot from these guys, (being a yearling with break barrel airguns), and I figured out a couple of things on my own. 1 thing I figured out is a less expensive break barrel with a slightly sloppy pivot joint/wedge lock, (Like my .177 Benjamin Titan), can be very accurate with the right pellet, (JSB diabolo exact heavy 10.34gr. is the right .177 pellet), even to 75 yards and further. You can close the barrel more precisely than just shutting it, and hit bottle caps @ 75 yards from a door jam. Try this Rossi man: After you close the barrel, grab the stock and the muzzle in a way where you can force the barrel closed, while wiggling the barrel from side to side. You will feel it tighten up and stop moving. Bump the gun, and you have to do it again, but a cheap .177 break barrel can shoot 1.5" groups at 75 yards shot after shot. My tightest group so far at 75 yards, with 3 shots, is .600" center to center, (which may be a record for a break barrel, I don't know). Yea, I was amazed also to say the least. The gun is super hold sensitive at 75 yards, but it is capable if we are. I can now say, "20-30 yard accuracy tests? Pffft, Why?"

    I think the importance of quality scope mounts are often overlooked as well.
    I hold onto my springer firmly but let it recoil. If I truly go "artillery" hold my trigger pull tends to throw me off. I think my trigger is about as light as it can go too.
    Oh and LOCTITE EVERYTHING!!!!

      @fulanito410 Před 5 lety

      That's one of the reasons I did a trigger job on my Benjamin Titan NP. It breaks ~1.5 pounds. There really isn't much deflection if I just grip the stock well as I shoot.

    Very interesting topic and video. Thanks for thiis one!
    I have an "inexpensive" Crosman Shadow .177 break barrel. Came with a cheap scope and mounts - just as the guys were talking about. :D Shoots lika crap with the scope - but shoots very nice with the open iron sights. The orig mounts are crap, or then just plain wrong, because the mounts do not even place the scope right on top of the barrel.. But.. that is what you get when you buy cheaper stuff... :D :D

      Revisit after (apparently) 3 years..
      Still got that Crosman Phantom.. Still has the cheap og scope and mounts - but it has done well. Not used iron sights for a long time now, since got the scope and my shooting stance to work well together. Has pushed out them 1g Gamo G-Hammer pellets way good (while the guys in the vid talked about using heavier ammo in well performing air rifles)..

With rws field I hit on same hole over and over at 25 meters, and at 50 meters still I got very small groups but with gamo ones is just horrible, all over the place. I never use the Artillery hold as shown. I just don't grip the forestock tightly, nor do I pull the rifle into my shoulder. None of that. Held loosely, but gripped properly. My .22 Striker 1000x shoots hole-in-a-hole @ 25yds with CPHP's. Similar when I use my bench bags. I fill them to the max with those plastic pellets. They act like thousands of ball bearings inside the bags. I use the rear bag on top of the front one and hold the rifle as previously described. Or with my monopod Trigger Stick.

    I'm new to air gunning, and just starting in hunter field target. I started out with a light artillery hold, but have found that a firm left hand hold and a light right hand trigger hold improved my accuracy. I'm using a Gamo Silent Cat, 4-12x hammers AO scope, 10.6 grain Kodiak match pellets and shooting sticks. So I'm wondering if there are exceptions to the "loose artillery hold" rule?

    • @MrYKNAL
      @MrYKNAL Před 8 lety +2

      the statement that you must use the artillery hold is a golden rule and just like all golden rules there's exceptions to the rule, but generally your usually better off with the artillery hold...... but not always :-)

      And I wasn't a shooter before I picked up an air rifle, so I had no pre-conceived hold before. I actually read about the artillery hold and started there. I only tried a firmer left hand hold by accident and noticed a tighter group. I'll try both again to make sure there is not something else in the equation that I'm missing.

    Why can't I find a lever-action (Cowboy) style rifle with the higher FPS of most other guns? Same thing seems to be true of handguns. While I mostly punch holes in paper targets, if I invest in something I prefer to be able to hunt small game with it and prefer as much punch as possible. Any thoughts?

      +trike rider The Walther Lever action ( www.umarexusa.com/Guntype-Brand/Air-Rifles-Walther/Walther-Lever-Action-Black.html ) will shoot 630 fps with a new CO2 cartridge and has great accuracy. It would be okay for small pests like mice and rats close range. Otherwise, look at under lever springers, because these are always at the ready and will provide the knock-down power you're looking for: Walther LGU or RWS 460 Magnum are both good options.

    The accuracy Is base on your capacity to compensate on handling the rifle and clear eyesight. But if you add more accuracy you must a good barrel and Power. 2nd Is you learned the Wind direction and atmospheric pressure in the area. Scope is only helping to add efficient to see the target clearly than the human Eye. Its because scope can be change any time if you dont know much and handling of your scope thats why you must practice more about your scope not your rifle.

      you wont find any in a pistol.. the problem isnt the propellant... its the lil 2 inch barrel on most of those pistol's..
      you need a barrel of 24" to get co2 to put a pellet up to that kinda velocity :-\ or get a potato gun with a real short barrel an at 10 fps the weight of the projectile is enough to kill lol...... (I managed to nail a squirrel with a softball :-)

    The belief that under-levers aren't more accurate than break barrels is interesting. I'm sure that's possible for the first few thousand rounds, but it sure seems that after 7-8K most break barrels don't have much for accuracy unless sent back into the manufacturer for fixes. Just my experience.

    One misconception is, springers are for plinking pcp's are for target practice, and live rifles are for hunting, no, no and no, all three types do all three jobs
    In fact, even if i had a firearms licence, i wouldn't take a live rifle out hunting, a friend of mine had a 22 rimfire, i had a 22 springer, we went out doing pest control on jis land, he drove my 4x4, we parked up, engjne off for 5 minutes, i shot from standing in the sunroof, i dropped a few rabbits, we would move to the next field
    We swapped over, and the first shot he took scared all the pests within a 3 mile radius away, and we called it a night, from then on, we only took springers out
    The pests were used to the sound of a 4x4 after a while, so we wwre shooting on the move, really enjoyable

    The only proper way to tilt a scope down is with more expensive adjustable mounts. Just to say it should point down will let people put in shims under the rear ring and that put stress on the scope tube and ultimately damage it. You should have given a proper explanation.

  • @cameronmcleod7740
    @cameronmcleod7740 Před 2 lety +1

    I disagree on the power/velocity ratings. If you buy a 600hp Porsche you expect 600hp at the crank. If you buy a 1100fps rifle it should be able to achieve the velocity with some weight of pellet otherwise it’s hoohaw.
