You have to remember some of the controllers have actually worked in operational Towers overseas in war zone conditions especially the younger ones and their language use to describe the situation was pretty much automatic period, the important thing is they got the point across that this situation was different from normal and everybody do exactly what we tell you when we say it.!!

I think that's fairly standard now with how much crap is going on in the world at the moment. We're almost becoming numb to it.
I was on a train very close to Borough Market in London when there was a terrorist attack there a few years ago (had I not missed the train 10 minutes earlier I would have been travelling on the bridge above the market when the police were shooting the terrorists).
The train stopped as it was approaching the preceding station (half mile away), and the driver made an announcement that we were holding "due to an ongoing suspected terrorist attack" and most people just sighed about the delay rather than panicking.

When I was growing up, Reading (Carl A. Spaatz Field) had the largest airshow outside Paris. Every year we had either the Blue Angels or the Thunderbirds perform (back when both were flying F4's), plus a slew of aerobatic pilots. Bob Hoover use to fly his routine in his P51, then climb out and fly the same routine in his Aero Commander (Shrike?)
I was 50' off the flight line the day Dick Schram (the Flying Professor) augured in. He had a great routine, and always borrowed a local Cub for his show. As I understand it, he pulled back on the backside of his loop, and the stick came clean out of the floor. The saddest thing was that his son (announcer for the Blue Angels) was announcing for dad that day.
I keep hoping to make it back some year for the "new" Reading Airshow, which is a WWII reenactment, with warbirds, armor, Allied and Axis encampments, etc.

News article from Dec 18, 2020. Incident was Dec 15.
BERN TOWNSHIP, PA - An intoxicated Lansdale man was arrested this week after a causing a series of incidents at Reading Regional Airport which led to landings being temporarily diverted, police said.
The situation began at around 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15. Police were told that a man was rolling on the grass and jumping in front of vehicles in Bern Township, on Route 183 near the airport.
The man, Lansdale's Norman J. Lee, 38, fled when police arrived, climbing over a 10-foot high barbed wire fence near Millennium Aviation, authorities said.
He then climbed into an idling and unlocked snow plow that was being readied for the coming snowstorm, and sped away into a restricted section of the airport grounds, according to police.
Police immediately notified air control, who diverted landings. One inbound aircraft had to make a "last minute maneuver" to avoid landing while the chase for Lee was ongoing, officials said.
The truck Lee was driving became stuck in the grass as the plow was lowered, and Lee then fled on foot toward a fence at the southern end of the airport, police said. That's where officers caught up with him, describing him as "violent" and "obviously under the influence of narcotics."
Lee faces counts of theft of a motor vehicle, defiant trespass, criminal mischief, and resisting arrest. After spitting in the face of a deputy while receiving medical treatment, police also charged Lee with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
Bail was set at $100,000, and Lee was booked at Berks County Jail. A preliminary hearing is forthcoming.

It’s when a pilot is practicing approaches, landings and take-offs. They come in like they are going to land, touch down, then take off, as for a go-around. The B-52’s used to do that all the time at AFB’s when I was growing up - lots of noise, but I loved every minute of it❣️.

    • @SantaZeede

Why would it be dangerous? The one in front is a jet, which is much faster than the Piper following it. He just needed to issue them some quick and safe commands to get back to figuring out what to do about the unauthorized vehicle driving around.
