Enjoyed hearing about all the projects that you have going on. They all sound exciting. Interested in the stick season cardi, it just sounds cosy. Glad puppy is doing well, he sounds gorgeous. I’ve taken part in some test knits that use Slack and I’ve found that to be great for communicating with the designer and for getting to know other knitters. I’m impressed with the efforts you are making with your test process. I think the timeline increase is great for those of us knitting the larger sizes.
By far my favorite part of this episode was the sounds of the seagulls. Back in September 2022 we stayed in Edinburgh for a few days and rented an apartment in Leith with a gorgeous view of the water. We kept the windows open all the time and the constant sound of the seagulls made for an interesting soundtrack to that part of the trip. Thanks for the reminder and bringing up some fun memories.
I'm a pretty regular test knitter for a designer, and we have a Slack channel for each test project. It's great because it gives you the "knitalong" experience and you can ask questions or help others that get stuck. Also it's fun to see everyone's progress, colour and yarn choices, ask which buttons you should pick etc :D Also after a while you get to know the other "regulars".
I’m always fascinated when you talk about the design process, it’s so far beyond my skills and desires that I find it it so impressive that you do all of that so I can do one of my favourite things - knitting! So thank you. I often find started blankets, that linger on the needles, can make really great cushions! I love the Lunnen Tee in 4ply, I much prefer almost everything about 4ply, I love wearing a finer knit (I got hot at about 52 years and haven’t cooled down yet!), I do like knitting finer yarn, except as I wear a larger size, there are a lot of stitches and it does seem to take forever! I test knit constantly. I think a reasonable length is important. Also I like designers that let you play a bit with the design. I don’t like designers that are super rigid with the process and the design. I have test knit for you once and you are super flexible. Also a design that has been really vetted for the numbers. If you get 1/2 way thru then have to rip back it very frustrated. You are also very responsive which is also very good. Look forward to doing it again…after I get thru all may test knits..hahahah
Just remember that when “puppy” gets to be a full size “doggie” he will still think he needs to sit in your lap! 😊

Such a fun episode, Rebecca, not chaotic at all! I, too, loved the sound of the seagulls in the background....and, the seagulls were also in the background of your insta reel where you were opening up your new wool! I had recently tested through slack and I quite enjoyed it, because it allowed me to keep instagram DMs just for friends, but tbf I find your test knit chats are always friendly and relaxed.
PS: I already have yarn aside for the NYX😂 … just sayin’🤭
Would love to see a shawl collar on that jacket! I imagine adding elbow patches too to get an academic vibe! I'm glad you're taking some time off, it will give me a chance to work through my Creabea queue before you release even more exciting things that I never have time to get to!

Excited for the lunen with a polo collar, as i do not like round necks❤❤ also great to have a fingering weight version, as the summers are really hot here in US thanks for your many choices.
For test knitting, I enjoy being able to comment directly on the Google Docs for edits. I think a Ravelry or instagram chat is helpful for the testers to be able to share progress amongst themselves so long as it’s clear that you will not be checking the chat for pattern updates or suggestions and that those would have to be done on the google doc (this way, there is no additional labor for you but creates a more enjoyable experience for the testers). Totally obsessed with the Nyx! Will be keeping an eye on your insta stories for the test call 👀
Thanks Rebecca. I am anxiously awaiting your next pattern release. I don’t know what you consider is chaos, but it’s definitely not your podcast. I like that you are so honest and natural.
Speaking of blankets... I used your Daft sweater stitch to make a baby blanket, and it turned out beautiful.

When I was growing up in the 1960’s/1970’s a ribbed top like your Lunen top was called a “Poor boy”. Not sure why but that’s how we called it. 😊

Lovely top. Wool will shrink slightly even though there is the nylon content. Wool has a memory, and no matter how much blocking you do. It will go back to its original tension.
I am a newish knitter (crocheter for years) and just love your patterns. Can’t wait to make the one you’re wearing and if I get the courage I’ll do the color work sweater. It’s beautiful!!
I have test knit for several designers who have used Slack or Discord which have worked very well and have been great fun. Unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to test knit for yourself. Really look8ng forward to your polo top pattern release. Will you be at the Scottish Yarn festival this year? I do hope as I am coming from NZ and would really like to meet you. Happy designing.
I do test knitting for a couple (or so) of designers one always uses Slack and I much prefer that platform. The private group for each test knit becomes camaraderie, we all support each other with ideas /solutions but also have direct access to the designer and her team, meaning any pattern adjustments required can be worked out and notified asap.

I love the colorwork sweater design! I've been wanting to do that for so long and haven't found one that I have really loved and wanted to invest the time into. Yours might just be the one! Perfect 2 color and design is incredible!
Hi Rebecca, I have done a number of test knits, I am currently doing one for Andrea Gaughan. I have participated in ones that used email and google docs, slack and IG messages. I have to say I like slack. I still have lots to learn about the app but Andrea has two feeds set up on her tests (this is my second test for her). There is a feed for pattern information so you can always easily find the most up to date version. The second feed is the chat between all of the testers. It is a fantastic way to see how people have put their colours together, different yarns used etc. I am sure you will come up with the best system that will work for you. Good luck with all of the planning.
Super happy to hear more about the colorwork! I struggled so much with my first colorwork project and it looked soo messy and wavy that I frocked it and decided to never try it again 😅 but the more I watch others do it, the more I get the confidence to maybe try again 🐑

Enjoy your design process. My dig started traveling at a very early age, continues to always want to get in the car for a ride. Made 10, 5 day trips cross country US, best decision ever. He knows the term "pit stop". Ha🎉

I really enjoy doing tests because you are on the leading edge of a new pattern. I challenge myself to get several 'helpful' clicks on my Ravelry projects and on one project I have so many likes on a popular pattern and I didn't even knit it, only a swatch and I'm really proud that people get value from that. For this new colour work pattern I would love to be considered to test it. I have just purchased some Spincycle Metaporphic in dk and it's beautiful and also two different colours of Dream State, so I'm ready to go... As a matter of fact I've spent hours and hours trying to figure out what pattern I want to knit and I just cannot!!! This would be perfect! My Ravelry name is the same as my youtube name. Happy knitting
Love how many options you give in patterns. The blanket looks good 😍 could you make a few strips at a time then sew them together as you go so it isn’t as many to seam at the end
I've done yarnpond, ig, slack and discord... My favorite is discord you can create like... Sidebars so pattern issues hang out in one area and like KAL vibes chatter stuff hang out in another and depending on the designer there might be a link to the Google doc or pattern link that's the most recent so it's just right there

I'd love to learn how to knit a folded over jacket collar, like a blazer. Imagine knitting a tux 😆I would absolutely do that, probably in some crazy colour.

Thank you for explaining so much about the design process. I have a question. Is there a reason more designers don't use Yarnpond for their test knits? The couple times I have test knit was through Yarnpond, and I really liked the structure it provides. I also love being able to browse for potential test knits. But it seems like very few designers use it. Is there a particular reason why?
