This is my first update on building the Track of the Wolf, Bucks County flintlock rifle kit. In this update I'll disassemble the deluxe large Siler flintlock so I can inlet the lock plate into the stock.
Nice winter project. A good flintlock mechanism has a certain elegance in its simplicity and function. I got a large Siler kit assembled by Track a few years ago, and it's a good lock.
Nice to see someone take one apart correctly! When punching out the tumbler I put a rag between the lock plate and vice to catch the tumbler when it falls out. Not a big deal, but keeps you from searching the floor for your tumbler once in a while :) Best, CE
Hello Mike I was wondering do you need any special or expensive types of tools to build any black powder kit or can you just use like dremels drill bits and the things like that
Hi mike, Great video and quite the project you have taken on, I know it will come out great. I would love to try something like that but I'm not sure my wallet can afford not just the kit but all of the peripheral tools needed. For instance, what would the cost be on a spring release tool such as the one you demonstrated in the video? Thank you and keep up the great videos!
I am in the planning stage of my first rifle and your videos have been helpful. The finish on that lock assembly looks like it's sandblasted? Is that in the rough, going to be filed and polished later or is that the way you leave it? Also, you don't have any issues with the wax in the lipstick messing with your wood finish later on?
I've watched several of your build vids now hoping to get the nerve to attempt. I chickened out. Yep, the whole world can know. I ordered a new Lyman Great Plains Flintlock pre-assembled by Italian hands. What do I get for my money? Let me state it like this. What I don't get a basket case muzzleloader project I wished I had never started.
I love this kind of stuff, great project. Thanks for keeping it going Mike.
I have worked with muzzle loaders for years and never thought of taping the screws and fly. Thanks for the idea.
Nicely shot with clear instructions. Thanks, I'm pondering getting a kit. Don't want to start one and then never finish.
Des mécanismes ingénieux dejà à cette époque ...

That is a neat project. Might have to tackle a build like that myself sometime.
nice work. i have always wanted to build my own rifle...
Thanks. I have the R.E. Davis Co. Center to Center drilling guide tool for the drill press to do just that.
THANK YOU SIR.
Yeah. I wouldn't have known it since I only built from pre-carved stocks before. Luckily I asked around before I started working on the rifle.
4:10 nice set!
6:10 neat trick pretty smart
Great set of videos. Which punches do you recommend? I've gone through 6 different 1/16" punches all broken and bent.

Yes the lock gets polished. No, any lipstick residue, or residue from the inletting black you'll see later sands right off
Is the barrel riffled?
