  • Featuring amateur archaeologist, enthusiast and multi-award winning investigative filmmaker, Simcha Jacobovici, The Naked Archaeologist is an irreverent, entertaining and eye-opening journey into the fascinating archaeology of the ancient world. Along the way, new discoveries are made, lost treasures revealed, and ancient mysteries uncovered.
There's a curious sentence in Judges 5:17, "and Dan remained in ships." In this episode of the Naked Archaeologist we try to determine whether some of the Dan took to the sea and became part of a Mediterranean confederation of Sea Peoples.

Did no one read the description? *Amateur archaeologist, enthusiast & multi award winning investigate filmmaker* Idk if this is the 1st ep you've ever seen, but I find this series interesting & entertaining. Pentecostal Believer S-R You obviously have not read the Old Testament correctly. That you may believe that what you call Israel has always been as. It is now is incorrect. The lands that the Hebrew tribes occupied were Israel and Judah. Of these Israel was the northern portion.
Judah was the southern and contained Jerusalem. The northern portion ( Israel ) was conquered by the Neo-Assyrians and ten of the tribes that resided there were disbursed as a people. These are the lost tribes of Israel. Judah, was not conquered. This occurred circa 722 BCE according to the Old Testament.
The video that this thread is linked to, us asserting that the tribe of Dan, one of the lost tribes, wear actually the Mycenae Greeks. But if the Mycenae Greeks were destroyed by the Sea people in circa 1200 BCE that would have been about 500 years before the tribe of Dan were disbursed out of Israel. And if they as likely became a part of the sea people, why would these Danoi, not just come back to the tribal area of Dan?

Beth Bartlett Man sinned against God in Eden. Simple as that. Sacrifices served as a reminder to Man that these sins would still need to be atoned for in innocent blood (looking forward to the death of Jesus). Abel made an acceptable sacrifice to God, giving Him the best of his flock, while it is inferred that Cain apparently cheated, probably by “sacrificing” low quality fruits and vegetables from his fields (probably damaged or spoiling).Israel itself again sinned against God when, right after personally witnessing the miracles that saved them from continuing in slavery and ignorance in pagan Egypt, and after being given the Torah (God’s instruction to Man on how to live) and agreeing to keep it always, they turned their backs on God’s clear instructions and attempted to worship Him “in their own way, after their own conscience” by erecting a calf idol after the manner of the cow and bull gods of Egypt at Sinai, under God’s very nose!
The sacrifice of bulls, goats, sheep, and doves did nothing for God. He commanded them as a reminder to Man of the seriousness of sin. The Temple priests knew first hand the unpleasantness of it all as they were charged with not only the slaughtering and cooking of the sacrifices (yes, they were eaten, not wasted), but of the cleaning up of their mess. (Ask a farmer or rancher or slaughterhouse worker about how unpleasant that all is!) Their are no “minor sins”.

We are here for a purpose greater than physical mind - it includes the mistakes and learning, it includes the understanding, empathy, etc.
We don't have the accurate texts, translations, and details - but even with deletions and the left out Gospel of Thomas, we do have the points and the abundant value of what Jesus was Teaching.
Beyond that - each has their own mind, own journey.
I have different views and thoughts with regards to God - and it is much more positive - and it is relevant in this era as theirs was back when.
The Constatine Roman Version - is just that.

@@bethbartlett5692 Except what your "views and thoughts" are what YOU think how it all should be, but GOD had and has a different "view and thought" about HIS creation and it doesn't include yours--or anyone else's--"views and thoughts," because we are HIS creation, not the other way around
As to us not having accurate texts, translations and details, again, that is not correct: What we DO have has been preserved, written and passed down for thousands of years. God made sure of that, since it's HIS words, HIS thoughts and HIS views--no one else can claim that but Him.
The original Textus Receptus and the original Torah direct from the languages of that time do NOT have any deletions.
As far as the Gospel of Thomas--the reason why it is not in the Bible is quite simple: it has never been referred to by anyone in the entire Bible--including Jesus Christ Himself--and when the early church fathers were tasked with having canon in the Bible, this particular writing--as well as the 13 books of the Apocrypha o the RC church--were not included.
I gather you want a religion that's all happy, happy, happy--all positive--but that is NOT how God wrote His Word. The reason for judgment, sacrifices, and even annihilation of other peoples were for the cleansing of the land from idolatry, sin and rebellion towards Him, as was in the days of Noah, as was in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah--and the surrounding cities, as was in the days of the Apostles, and as it is now--judgment by God for HIS purpose. If you want to gain entrance into HIS heavenly kingdom, then you have no choice other than to follow HIS Word--not what you think it should be.
As to the Constantine Roman Bible--it was written by the Emperor and is Catholic in nature. Constantine was NOT a favorite of the Jewish people--GOD'S people--and neither were they of him. IF you want to know God, then you have to read about Him.
There is no room for anyone's "views and thoughts" as to how YOU think it should be. The BIBLE says that if you seek Him with your whole heart, you shall find Him. That's pretty self explanatory and simple to do.

Supposition upon supposition!! The Bible says where the tribe of Dan came from ... and it's NOT the Aegean!! They are Israelites. After the Exodus they were supposed to take their allotment, which was occupied by the Philistines, but never did to any large degree. They migrated north and slaughtered the people of Laish and plunged into idolatry (Judges 17-18) and vanish from OT history. Dan is the only tribe not listed in the genealogies in 1 Chronicles nor in the "throne scene" of 12,000 from each tribe in Revelation 7.
It doesn't matter who the "Danoi" are. The Danites of the Bible and the Philistines are markedly different people.

If the pottery (amphora's and what not) look's similar to those found in Mycenae, then the chances are that they are one and the same. They wandered the desert for 40 years did they?? You're leaving out an important detail as to why the temple was held in disdain by both the writers and by God, after the division of the kingdom, King Jeroboam placed golden calves in Tel Dan and in Bethel (Ephraim) to create a homegrown version of Israelite religion that didn’t involve Jerusalem or its Temple. (1 Kings 12) He in essence, was saying the calves were a representation of the Most High; of YHVH himself! This was an absolute abomination to God, a slap in the face if you will. The temple in Jerusalem had the Ark of the Covenant. No representation of God was needed for there was his mercy seat. The ark was a throne of grace where God exhibited His presence, and met man IN His grace. This was the sin of Dan and Ephraim through Jeroboam; the golden calves used to represent the one true God and turn the northern peoples away from the true worship God commanded and instructed through his prophet Moses. Eventually Judah with Benjamin & Levi who were the priests.
The other 10 tribes in the north became known as the house of Israel, Ephraim & Samaria after The Capital City.
The 10 northern tribes were taken away into captivity by the Assyrian Empire & spread abroad. Maybe the tribe of Dan ended up in Greece?

I don't get the timeline. The gold in the Mycenaean shaft graves dates to around 1600 bc, the exodus was around 1500-1300 bc, the sea people around 1200 bc. Sea people gold did not end up in those graves. And moses never met any of the sea people. I feel like there is useful info in this video, but without a supported timeline I can't make heads or tales of it. How did the Mycenaeans end up as slaves in 1600-1300 bc egypt, so as to be a tribe of Israel? Or can Moses be dated to after 1180 bc?

The Tuatha Dé Danann - meaning "the folk of the goddess Danu" - are a supernatural race in Irish mythology. They are thought to represent the main deities of pre-Christian Gaelic Ireland/ The Tuatha Dé Danann constitute a pantheon whose attributes appeared in a number of forms throughout the Celtic world. Each member of the Tuath Dé has associations with a particular feature of life or nature, but many appear to have more than one association. Many also have bynames, some representing different aspects of the deity and others being regional names or epithets. One such leader/king/god is Manannán or Manann , also known as Manannán mac Lir ("son of the sea"),. He is a warrior and king of the Otherworld in Irish mythology who is associated with the sea and often interpreted as a sea god and is seen as the ruler and guardian of the Otherworld, and his dominion is referred by such names as Emain Ablach, Mag Mell (Plain of Delights), or Tír Tairngire (Land of Promise). Manannán is described as over-king of the surviving Tuatha Dé after the advent of humans (Milesians). The Milesians are the final race to settle in Ireland. They represent the Irish people. The Milesians are Gaels who sail to Ireland from Iberia (Hispania) after spending hundreds of years travelling the earth. In Northern Spain the Basque region the DNA was found to be 80% identical Irish DNA. The Basque language is a language isolate and there is speculation that they are Phoenicians.

@Danny Walker The Irish had an oral tradition of story telling, there was no writing system except for the Ogham which probably developed as a way of marking land or boundaries. Throughout the world the word "Dan" is prevalent . In Hinduism there is the godless Danu, the river Danube (Origin of Danube
      - Celtic D?nuvius from Indo-European. The tribe of Dan in Israel. We will never know we can only speculate unless archaeology finds artifacts which prove the connection.

@Danny Walker It is also speculated that Christianity came to Ireland by way of Egypt which would makes sense because before the English invasion of Ireland, Irish priests got married and had families much like the Coptic Priests in North Africa.
