  • Instead of me telling you about some hidden gems, we go on the journey together with some games I've never played before. Will they prove to be worth my time, or are they just internet hype and quickly forgotten? Let's take a look.

    Episode Notes:
    1. Games covered:
    Genji Tsuushin Agedama
    Time Cruise II
    Psycho Chaser
    Tatsujin
    Die Hard
    Hana Taka DakaI?
    Toilet Kids
    Skweek
    Cyber Cross
    Coryoon
    2. I used Magic Engine for this footage. My PC Engine is S-Video modded and I use that on my CRT. I tried that with the Framemeister but it looked pretty bad.
    3. The music in the beginning and ending monologues are from Batman for the PC Engine.
    4. All these games are on my PC Engine Everdrive and I still had yet to play them.
    5. I give the edge for Tatsujin to the Mega Drive. It doesn't have the bold color of the PC Engine version, but I prefer the addition animations and detail.

PC engine CD would be pretty cool to see you cover. I'm always on the look out for some really cool games. it's actually thanks to you that I have a new found appreciation for Saturn games and am praying for more saturn stuff to come back. I ended up buying physicals of saturn games to play them on my pc and also to even just listen to them as soundtracks.

Absolutely love your channel. I personally think this is a GREAT format to provide material between the "flagship" retrospective videos. The Genesis has tons of titles (not even counting the MD ones) that I've simply never seen anyone analyze meaningfully but quickly! (because there's simply not enough time to watch a "let's play" or "play-through" about every title you're curious about). At a burn rate of 10 games at a time, you'd have years worth of great video material. Even just getting deeper-than-usual takes regarding the actual gameplay experience of some of the "established" Genesis titles (and franchises) would make for really fun episodes IMO. SNES and PS1 provide similarly deep wells to draw from.

I have a decent chunk of the Turbo and PCE libraries. If you want a handful of others that may be fun to try, here goes:
Kickball- it's literally kickball, but with characters from the Schbibinman games, seals, muscle men, etc. for teams.
Download- awesome horizontal shooter with funny game over screens.
Momotaro Kagetsuki- peach boy platformer from Hudson with a Wonder Boy feel.
Bikkuriman World- a licensed remake of Wonder Boy in Monster Land
Somer Assault/Mesopotamia-neat puzzle platformer about a battle slinky fighting the zodiac creatures.
If you enjoy those, there's a lot more fun to be had.

I love your vids, but the thing I like this more is that you disclose how much the going rate is for a title on the retro market.
I picked up Pacman World in a carboot sale here in the UK for £1, buried in a box, proper mint condition too... Its going for £20-£25 on eBay.
Few more boot sales later... Well, a lot more bootsales later... Castlevania Chronicles cropped up... Tenner... I looked on eBay... Well over £100 last I checked!
I've never had any others, but bought some great "If less worth valuable" titles on the way, but, you never know! ;)
Hence why I like the inclusion of the going rate... You just never know when you might stumble on a bit of a rarity! :)

I say this as an American who grew up with NES -> SNES/MD -> etc: I would *love* to see you take on the older PC systems that were more popular in Europe - Commodore 64, Amiga, ZX Spectrum, etc. I don't have any nostalgia for them, but as someone who kept up with EVERYthing on the systems I owned and have watched "hidden gems" videos to death, learning about systems that weren't popular over here is like entering a whole other world.
I love videos from people like Kim Justice, but would really appreciate hearing the thoughts of someone else who has a similar gaming background to myself.
Because who gives a shit what any specific CZcamsr personally has nostalgia for? It's like reading the preambles to food recipes where they talk about their Italian grandmas. I care about what tastes good or plays good, not self-absorbed meandering.
Really, who sits there and says "Oh, you played such and such when you were a kid? That's sooo interesting."

What do you think about the turbografx 16 mini coming out in march? I'm really interested in it and with m2 handling the emulation, i think its gonna be pretty good if not great.

I'm definitely getting one because the turbografx or pc engine never came out in my country, so it's completely foreign to me (or was, anyway, I've emulated a ton of games for it now, but yeah). It's just such a cool little console. I was blown away by some of the games, like I'd heard the raving over Rondo of Blood for years so I thought it'd probably be a bit overrated, but it actually lived up to its reputation. And the Bonk games on it are better than the SNES ones, things like that. I was even surprised how much I enjoyed the pinball games like Alien Crush, I never saw the point of video pinball games before

I think ive only ever played 2 pce/turbo games. Ive always wanted to play the turbo though... games look so unique and fun. Im kind of excited for the mini, even though i never had a turbo. Finally i can try it out.

Coryoon is the same developer as Air zonk! You can literally see some of the assets are the same!
I cant wait to load all more roms on the TG16 Mini! I just hope they can hack it like the Genesis Mini where it can also play the CD games.

I got the TG16 at launch and still have it, its a wonderful system. Military Madness marathons with my friends was awesome. Pizza, beer, and almost coming to blows because my friend Mike wouldn’t move his fucking Bisons! LOL

Airzonk is actually using the same engine as Coryoon, even down to the exact same sound engine.
