  • A 50 min video showing a team climbing Kilimanjaro via the Lemosho route. The guides and porters were from Altezza travel. The climb took place in February 2024. The video is accompanied at the end by some of the best photographs that were taken during the climb.

Excellent video. Would you recommend Altezza travel for the climb? I'm thinking about going next February.

Hi, yes I would certainly recommend Altezza for the climb. They are an excellent company and their porters and guides are superb. Altezza also own the hotel in the video.
February is a good time to travel because it is the dry season - we only had 10 mins of light rain in our 7 day climb.
I would also recommend going a day early if you can to help acclimatise to the altitude - the hotel is at 4,900 feet.
My biggest recommendation would be to pay a bit extra for the private toilets - well worth the money!
      Good luck!

Thanks Tim im leaning towards booking them for the trip. I take your point about arriving early. I was thinking that way. Yes I will definitely get a toilet! Looking forward to making the trip happen.
Thanks . Did you add a safari? I may do as its a once in a lifetime opportunity.

@@nicholasmcnally8215 Arriving a day early also meant that I could start taking half tablets of Diamox before most of the other climbers. I didn't suffer from any altitude sickness although a couple in the group were sick and others had a touch of diarrhoea. The Altezza guides monitored everyone very closely and we were all succesful.
I didn't add a safari but most of the others did - or went to Zanzibar to relax. I plan to do a safari next year but would need malaria tablets for that because it is a much lower altitude. You don't need malaria tabs for Kilimanjaro because mosquitoes don't fly that high!

May I ask how old you are? I'm 50, and my sister is 60... I want to climb Kili but my sister thinks we're too old. What are your thoughts?

Hi, I was 65 when I climbed Kilimanjaro in February. As long as you are reasonably fit then you are definitely not too old. The guides keep a close eye on everyone's health and have twice daily health checks (blood oxygen and heart rate) so you feel well looked after. Go for it!
