  • Kilimanjaro, the world's tallest free standing mountain, one of the seven summits and Africa's highest point. Towering over the plains of East Africa, this huge beauty keeps attracting climbers from all over the world. I returned to this mountain, this time taking on the Machame route, also known as the Whiskey route. This video provides a detailed documentation of our experience during our 6 day climb. I hope you get to enjoy it. Feel free to leave a comment on what you think about the video or the climb itself. Thank you...

    I was there at the Uhuru Peak on 15. feb 1989. There were only 80 climbers at the easiest "Whisky route" on that day...so no tent villages. We slept in cosy huts. I believe they are still there. And above all; the whole peak was covered with snow and ice.
    I have kept in my mind the swahili words: POLE POLE. It is good for your life in many occasions.

      Wow! 1989 is a long time ago! Congratulations. The huts are now on the Marangu (Cocacola) route, at the Whiskey route you just camp in tents. The mountain nowadays gets so many visitors, even on the Marangu route you still find people camping as the huts are usually full on most times. Snow and ice have reduced significantly over the years, the mountain has changed a lot... Thanks for taking the journey again on this video..

    My brother, a friend and I climbed this route in Oct 1974. We and our guides were the only ones on the summit that day. A different time.

      Wow! 1974! Must have been extremely rewarding climbing at that time. I'm sure the mountain looked extremely different.. As you see, today, more than 100 people summit Kilimanjaro every day.

      It may cost anywhere between 1500 USD to 2500 USD depending on tour company you are using, number of days on the mountain and extra services you may need from the basic package..

    Do people shower?

    • @kiarieexploreske
      @kiarieexploreske  Před 3 měsíci

      They provide you with some little warm water to wipe yourself off but you can get enough water for a complete shower at extra cost, as it needs to be carried all the way..

      @@the1kenyanetertainer yes it is allowed but the water has to be used at camp, so it is fetched and carried by the porters.
