  • This was done on a 2002 Mercedes C230 Kompressor Sport Coupe. The issue of the door lock bouncing up and down affects the W203 C-class and W211 E-class models.
    This is the repair kit I used. amzn.com/B00Z1O...

    Thank you so much. You described the problem I am having with my car exactly. The local Mercedes dealer carries a sharp curved chisel in his pocket ... It's called a gouge and he uses it very freely to extract as much money as possible from unsuspecting customers.... You help us all to free ourselves from people like that. Thanks again. Tim

    You just saved me hours trying to figure out why it would unlock but not lock after the repair test . Can't thank you enough!!!!
    Also for anyone that still has a bouncing lock after swapping the spring. Don't lose hope, this just means that you stressed the spring too much getting it in, and you need to use a new one.

    Your method works with the coupe as the doors are longer and the rear speakers are conveniently in the rear corner of the door. On the sedan, the rear speakers are in the parcel shelf so it would have to be your rivet replacement method instead. This clip is 5yrs old and still doing great service. 👍

      Just thought I’d add that on the W169 the lock mechanism and window regulator is all mounted to a pressed steel skin that is riveted to the inside of the door. It’s a pig of a job if I’m honest. You’ll need to take out the window glass and everything.

    very helpful video. After trying to replace the spring, I gave up and am now installing a junkyard part (tested good). but after getting by every complex puzzle challenge this project has I am stumped with the plastic shield inside the panel that goes between the exterior handle and the lock/actuator. Can you comment on this? I can't find any info on this anywhere on Internet.

    Got the kit!
    Follow the directions to a “T”.
    Get it all back together and in place and decided to test it.
    Everything worked sorta but the mechanism and what I mean by that is I could hear the little servo whining/whirling??...But the lock rod was not going up and down.
    Took it back all apart and found out that there’s a little intermediate gear Between the servo & the big white round gear.....That had broken and falling the fuck out!!!.
    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!.
    What I found was if you get the mechanism down into the speaker hole and just be a little bit forceful with it you can pry it out of that entire speaker hole....Keep the unlocking dogleg metal piece that the outside door handle actions upon?, pointed down at 6 o’clock.
    Of course you do have to take the cable and the locking/unlocking rod off before attempting this.

    Hi, I took mine apart today and there is this plastic piece behind the actuator with a hood, I had a lot of trouble lowering the actuator because of that. Then It was nearly impossible to put back in place because of that same plastic piece with a hook in the way. I cannot find a diagram anywhere on line how that piece goes. Under, behind or above the actuator? Do you have any insight on that? Thanks! God bless.

      Took a medium Zip-Tie...threaded it in-between the door-lock button & the collar it sits in & just inserted it all the way down with the zip-tie box-end facing outward away from the button.
      Hit the lock button, tried the door & Voila!! NO FUCKY OPEN WITH ALARM GOING OFF!!

    So is the "bouncing issue" only a cause from the spring in the actuator? I was also told to check the sensor behind the tire. Does that sound right?

    • @mikenewbry
      @mikenewbry  Před 7 lety +1

      If it's a fast bounce it's the broken spring. If it's a slow bounce it's an electrical issue.

  • @aldertboonstra4521
    @aldertboonstra4521 Před 8 lety +3

    You don't have to dismantle anything. Just push a small tie rip in the same hole as the button which goes up and down. Because of the resistance you have created, it will work exactly the same as the spring. Just try it.

    • @dawnnowland7300
      @dawnnowland7300 Před 4 lety +1

      just happened with my bmw X5... All the radiator fluid in the pistons was causing it not to start / 5 minutes to start. (blown head-gasket)! USED some BARR's HEAD GASKET FIX - $30 from Oreilly's -- FIXED! (for 9-12 months, then should probably have to do it again)....
      A JOKE: A vacationing penguin is driving his car through Arizona when he notices that the oil pressure light is on. He gets out to look and sees oil dripping out of the motor. He drives to the nearest town and stops at the first gas station.
      After dropping the car off, the penguin goes for a walk around town. He sees an ice-cream shop and, being a penguin in Arizona, decides that something cold would really hit the spot. He gets a big dish of ice cream and sits down to eat. Having no hands he makes a real mess trying to eat with his flippers. After finishing his ice cream, he goes back to the gas station and asks the mechanic if he's found the problem. The mechanic looks up and says "It looks like you blew a seal."
      "No no," the penguin replies, "it's just ice cream."
