u prolly grew up with a family that was as fake snakes as the once in kings landing :). And u feel that u connect with aemon and john as u lived theire story on earth. Thats usually why we cry when we watch movies books.

Yeah, it took me a little digging to realize this is NOT the same Aemon Tageryen on House of the Dragon even though his brother's name was Aegon too. I was like "That CAN'T be the same guy, he's not THAT old!".
But yes, in my eyes he was the greatest Targaryen to ever draw breath. He didn't NEED nor had the need to be a king. But man! The integrity of this guy.

Little did he know. There were more Targaryen than he thought, and he was guiding one, that hidden dragon under the skin of a wolf wasn't alone in the world, he was with his blood at least for a bit
The actor actually served in various fronts in ww2, including D-Day. I believe his real life wisdom is on display in the show. May he Rest In Peace, a great man and true hero who will be remembered long from now.
when alisser thorne asked him how he knew when ppl told lies and he replied "i grew up in king's landing" i am immediately reminded of the scene where petyr baelish tells sansa "we are all liars here and everyone of us is better than you are". when you stay close to players who play the game, you begin to develop a sense of when people tell lies or at least when people are not entirely truthful.

@@seekingabsolution1907 "lazy pieces of shit" tells me you haven't thought of all the variables. Herbivores tend to have to eat all day long just to survive. Their whole life is eating. Predators like lions might go days or weeks without a meal and when they do, they eat as much protein and fat off that meal as they can. Ever eat a bunch of meat all at once, especially after not eating for a few days? You'd be "lazy" too.
It should be the other way around since wars are won by fearless lion-hearted men not pretty words from commanders and single persons with thousand cowardly sheep. Commander is there to lead not fight the battles of the many against the many and most definitely not dominate the fights of every single men of his army, courage does that and bravery.
A coward sheepy commander leading lion-hearted men have men win the battle for him. What good are bravely steategic tactics if your men are cowardly trembling sheep?

What added to the weight and calm of listening to Master Aemon Targaryen, is how it mirrors the conversations between myself and one of my teachers, who was elderly, yet very inspiring and fatherly. More so than my old man, who I'm not fond of AT ALL. Haven't spoken to him in a LONG time in fact, nor do I EVER intend to.
But witnessing their interactions, and Jon Snow learning a great deal from the Maester of the Citadel, he came to better understand himself. Not just as fellow Targaryens, but as men. :D
He and Tywin are tied for my favorites. They are two sides of the same coin in my eyes. And the knowledge they gave will guide me the rest of my days.

Maekars son Aemon refused the throne and Aegon V "the Unlikely" became King. Next came King Jahaerys II, then Aerys II "Mad King", then Rhaegar, and finally Aegon VI "Jon Snow" or Aegon VI "Young Griff" with Lyanna and Elia

Some how I believe he knew Jon Snow was related to him.
Aemon was the heir. As stated in HOTD, the secret/duty of the Targaryens in Westeros, i.e. protect the realm from the threat of White Walkers. Maybe that's the reason why he'd become a maester of the Wall.
He became a Maester and a member of the Watch to allow his younger brother Aegon V to be king without anyone using him against him for political gain

Ned Stark would transform Love as function of Duty. Like he did for Aegon Targaryen and Stark, Sixth of his name, King of the Andals, and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm.

Knowing what we do know now, I truly believe Maester Aemon knew that Jon Snow was a Targaryen and kept him close i.e. choosing him as a steward over a ranger to mold his mind.
