I think you're onto it when you say he "restores order." My perspective was always that Golb is the embodiment of entropy. It isn't really good or evil, it simply consumes and eventually will bring everything in the cosmos back to nothing. It's not a desire to maintain order in the sense that Golb sees people breaking the cosmic rules. It's more that Golb is simply a manifestation of the end of everything.

I think Golb isn't.. exactly an all powerful being. But he also does not stand within time or reality. What if.. he represents the end. Not of life, but of existence. He cleans up dead universes, corrects cataclysmic Universal events. The Lich mentioned he is a Scholar of Golb, and is the embodiment of an inevitable death. What if he only follows one aspect of Golb, where the thing itself represents Chaos and an End of Chaos.

honestly i always thought this was the true meaning of Golb. it backs up that one idea where fin made up the pillow world. As fin dies/ wakes up, Golb signifies the end of the pillows. He wasn’t necessarily trying to take fin away, he was more of a sign that that world was ending and that fin was joining the real world.

You gotta remember that the lich is also a cosmic being alongside fin and jake.
Not as powerful as golb, but still strong in their own right.
Golb probably doesn’t have much agency in his own direction what so ever, and simply goes where there’s an end to be found…. Hence the final episode of adventure time he just SHOWS UP at the end.
But of course, the message of the show is the adventure will go on, so he’s fought off.
I like to think that his in ability to make his own decisions, operating off of pure instinct, more like a machine than even an animal, is why ice kings wife was able to take over… because he had no intentions of his own.

Think back to his first appearance in puhoy. In the depths of his relationship melodrama, Finn essentially creates a tiny world populated by pillow people. Golb shows up at the end when Finn "dies" and can no longer sustain that universe.
Golb is the being that is there every time a universe dies. His priest, The Lich, worships him and seeks to destroy universes. All of them. But Golb itself probably doesn't actually care about the universes it ends, or consumes, or just watches as they die.
But once merged with Betty all bets are off as to how Golb views the inevitable end all universes are heading towards.

I would say that this theory and the concept of Golb being some form of keeper of balance is a bit bad, Don't all the primordials have the ability to bend reality and time?
So if Golb is so powerful and is meant to keep balance in reality, why are so many of the primordials still alive, (Even though there used to be millions of them and now there is only like, idk 3-5?) also, why would Golb be making MORE primordials then? (The Lich is evidence. ) In my personal opinion, Golb is a nihilistic god, possibly an all-consuming devourer of sorts, as he doesn't really seem to be keeping any actual balance in reality, also I believe he might be a normal primordial, as primordials have been shown (I believe.) to be able to relatively do the same things he can do, and can only be killed though other primordials. Elsewhere in the show, one of the characters talks about how he will live his life the best way he knew, and when he passes on from this world to the land of the dead, his life's actions will be weighed by Golb.
I got the impression that Golb functioned as the representation of entropy. "He" is the embodiment of chaos, and as the universe expands and cools, the life in the universe going from ordered to disordered, alive to dead, they fall into the realm of Golb. And with the cosmic imagination, the destruction of life has implications in the destruction of the multiverse
I dunno about any cosmic judgements, that sounds like the kind of thing some religion or cult of Golb would include as their dogma; that Golb would judge you... but it seems in actuality it is just a consumer of order. Betty Simon and Finn didn't seem to get any sort of audience or trial; though they are still alive when he swallows them. Maybe it's different for ghosts/souls.
There is one thing i could think of for cosmic judgements; perhaps when Golb consumes you, and you are stripped down as you are digested, perhaps your essence is excreted through some psychic mechanism and is placed inyour afterlife in the appropriate dead world... the various dead worlds are the only judgement/dividing metrics I could think of involving the afterlife.
What gets REALLY weird is what happens to the form of the universe, and to Golb Itself, when everything loses the last erg of energy, do the monsters return? Orgalorg has his kitten child, so it stands to reason that more primordials could be created...
    ...showers thoughts... [shrug]

I don't think there is an episode where some character says that his life's actions will be weighed by GOLB. Maybe he said Glob, as in Grob Gob Glob Grod.
I mean you could think of the Lich saying that he is the last scholar of GOLB as, maybe there was some sort of religion or cult surrounding GOLB. It would be far out there and reaching if the Lich didn't say this, but to this day no one really knows what the Lich means by that.
I don't even think they get to go the dead worlds after being consumed by GOLB. I think whoever gets fully digest by GOLB literally ceases to exist all together. That's why Prismo couldn't wish back Margles.
Yeah the whole primordials stuff is really confusing. That would be really interesting though if they could make more primordials.

I think what GOLB actually is is just a representation of entropy.
Like during that final battle he doesn't actually do anything really, he doesn't even move, he just breaths out and creates monsters.
He doesn't react when anyone tries to attack, and he seems to appear only when a dimension is ending unless summoned, then he consumes that universe.
Like from what i've seen of him during the final battle he is unmoving and just stares off into space the whole time, and even when they deal damage to him he doesn't react, the only time he does is when the fusion occurs.

Everyone's talking about how Golb is the embodiment of entropy and chaos but... in a way doesn't he also keep order? Like he steps in and munches on interdimensional trouble causers or when one being seems to amass too much power or control. He is a law-keeper just as much as a world-eater if you think about. Making sure things meet their proper end is just as much a means of order as it is chaos.

i dont understand why this video has such a large number of dislikes? i can only assume most of them are people that just assume golb being chaos means there is no purpose, but just his existence alone should be more than enough to justify that he has purpose. he goes places, and sometimes does things. i think it makes far more sense for an uncaring entity of chaos to at least have some specific job to play rather than just "i am chaos rawr"

    • @BloodDripss
      @BloodDripss Před rokem +6

also i forgot to mention that typically in shows, the embodiment of chaos is almost always created for the purpose of keeping a universe, well, chaotic. if there is too much organization, then chaos shall ensue to correct that. if there is too much randomness and no order, well perhaps his job then is to create beings that eventually lead to a more balanced and organized world. golb is the personification of ying and yang.

Golb represents the viewer watching the show. That's why his form is like a child sitting expectantly in front of the t.v. and his extra eyes drive the point home that he's watching. Even his hanging tounge and transe-like expression convey the personified face of pure entertainment consumption, ready to lap up every second of anything attention worthy poured into it from the "boob-tube".
When finn died in pillow world he just bounced him back because we still want to see where his story leads. When he turns the lich into a tetris block it's because we're done with his b.s. already. He was ready to digest Simon and betty the same way the audience was ready to finally find satisfaction in witnessing the culmination of their shared storyline at long last.
..And his love of chaos is the epidemy of what truly exists in the core of the heart of the viewer of any spectacle.. when he created havoc at the end of the gum war,, he could have just destroyed anything or everything easily and simply but the choice to create interesting and exciting monsters to do epic battle with the forces of good that would have otherwise stood no chance at all against golb directly was a choice directly in line with what the audience wants to see in the series finale of a show like adventure time.
Although he only reps the viewer (or audience) he does also have power to influence the AT-universe., much in the same way real viewers' of a show in the real world 's feelings and wants and opinions can and do influence it over time and even during it's very conception through ways of feedback of all sorts that get to the makers and writers, whom wouldn't get to make a show at all if they don't give the viewers what they want.
BUT now that he's merged with betty it's not that cut and dry anymore because of that character's will and personality's influence and, I suspect more importantly, the overwhelming influence of Betty's crown wish. I theorize that Betty's wish to save Simon (or perhaps that's not exactly the right way to state what her wish was..?) is still in the process of being fulfilled during the first batch of episodes of fiona n cake. That's why, even after cake had already traveled through the portal of blue sparkles connecting ice/cold in the magicless gender swapped f&c world to the back of Simon's head in "our" f&j's land of oooo,, cake could still hear the song that should only be known to Simon and Betty and why she saw more blue sparkles at the ice kingdom even from far away and so felt compelled to travel there! Why would she be seeing blue sparkles if she's already escaped Simon's head and in the same world he's existing in too? Because they're not just a detail of the portal but are in fact guiding cake to the ice kingdom for some reason that ultimately has to do with Simon finding happiness or fulfillment or etc.. She prevented Simon from putting the crown back on because she knows that's sure to make him never happy again if he does and it's also why she interferes with scarab.
I have a theory of why her picture, not gender swapped either, was in the newspaper the squirl was reading/eating back in f&c's magicless world that fits with this and why the clouds are turning into golb tetris blocks too but I still haven't watched the next episode after that one (the second of the 2 for this week) so it might sound stupid to say now if that becomes clear after watching it. Maybe I shouldn't have written any of this until then but I know I wouldn't have come back here later so I just lived in the moment. Shmowzow

Music effects Golb, since it's a close thing to the polar opposite, which is harmony/order.

In one of the episodes, (I think the first) we can see Simon doing the exact same dance, but we can finally hear him saying “REVEAL THE PATH AND GRANT ME PASSAGE. REVEAL THE PATH AND GRANT ME PASSAGE.” Which we later get to figure out you have to think about someone to summon them. He was trying to summon Betty! AKA Golb, so maybe Magic Man was thinking about Golb while doing the dance! Also when Prismo hears Simon summoned Fiona and Cake rather then Betty, he gets mad and says “Come on dude! You can’t just mess with my stuff like that even if it’s in your head!” Which wow- anyway it would probably be worse if he summoned Betty, imaging future Ooo seeing that colossal monster just descend on them

being that he is the embodiment of entropy, it makes sense that he's attracted to the largest concentrations of energy, and order.
someone pulling some mega powerful magic and having lots of crazy destiny crap happen to them would certainly be both lots of energy and lots of order; both food for the chaos god.
Breaking a super powerful or ordered being down to their components would lower the concentration of "order", that's my guess. like putting an entire pencil though a sharpener; now its just a chaotic mess of shavings.

  • @thehale_

I’ve always sort of seen Golb as like a multiversal janitor, rather than a universal cop. Like Galactus from Marvel. When a universe meets its destined end or has existed for long enough, it’s Golb’s job to erase it from the multiverse. Hence why he appears in the pillow episode. The pillow universe was created because of Finn’s dream. Finn then wakes up, meaning that universe ends since it’s his dream. That’s why you can see Golb flying in the opposite direction as Finn is flying out of the pillow world. Golb is on his way to consume the pillow world, since it no longer has a purpose, since it only existed to be a dream for Finn.
Edit: This is also why I think it makes sense for the Litch to worship Golb the way he does. The Litch might admire Golb for bringing about extinction, but doesn’t understand that Golb only does it out of universal balance. This causes the Litch to imitate Golb in an attempt to please it, by causing as much genocide as possible.
