What do you think were Shawn Michaels intentions in that match with Hogan at SummerSlam? Let us know in the comments below!
i tend to believe Shawn. I think he was working Hogan much like Terry Funk did. Hogan is a super hero character and so you go over the top and it just weird out of context when clipped and without seeing how Shawn worked as a heel for the last decade of his career. I actually thought Shawn laid out a pretty good match that night that built to a finish where it felt like Shawn is absolutely screwing Hogan out of this one tonight, and then nope Hulk is just too good.
His intentions were to do what they wanted him to do. This match has become such an internet myth over the years. The match was no different than any Mr. Perfect match (he even did Mr. Perfect's turnbuckle spot), Sgt Slaughter match, anything Hogan did in the late '80s, early '90s.
I think Shawn like anyone would be, was mad that the match was changed last second and gave exactly what was asked of him.
He was shittin on Hogan no matter what he says and THAT’S OK. It was like cartoon Rambo lol! Rambo didn’t want to kill people, but he was the best at it. HBK was the best at being the biggest ass that ever lived and he proved that night that he will always have that ability.
He told you.

That's Montreal. Those fans will hate him forever.
@@moses0686yeah that was a given he will always be a heel in Montreal
Easily top three promo of all time. Legendary.
.. Yep false clicbait - Shawn says it wasnt on purpose - that he was just a bad heel at this point - and taking bumps like he always did. So he shows a lot of respect for Hogan here.
How much selling did he have to do during that PROMO?
Shawn did not oversell. Don't underestimate the sheer force and devastation that comes with a big boot and leg drop delivered by the Hulkster, brother.

HBK wasn't anywhere near Hogan's level of stardom. Didn't deserve to have the Hulkster doing the job, brother. His unprofessional antics during their match proved that he was unworthy.

It's laughing at yourself it's a "yea we do do that don't we!" Moment.
Marks don't see themselves as marks. They think they're laughing with Shawn.

“Hold my beer” is basically what HBK said in 2005 lol! He was supposedly this nice, changed man right. And some other man who was just like him comes along and tries to jack him around. And HBK said hold my beer while I do my old thing 1 more time.
With The Rock, it’s probably tequila and not beer. 😏

Michaels is totally right. You can see earlier matches he had with Undertaker where he bumps exactly the same way.
I guess Shawn was right about how gullible fans are. All he has to do is pull your strings and you dance like a puppet
There's a difference between over bumping and overselling. Taking a big bump off a basic move is over bumping. Taking a move, falling over, getting up, spinning around and falling down again is over selling. It was a little too far and turned a dream match into a comedy match.
The bounce out of the corner and into a headstand
Never saw him do that except when he was mocking hogan
Bro… Michaels absolutely did not bump and sell the same for Taker. What he did against Hogan was Looney Tunes type shit. He literally just starts spinning around at one point. 😆
This convinces me that the main event we got at WM 40 was the plan all along. Shaw talks about how easy it is to work the fans and that's exactly what happened lol
He’s calling the audience morons to their face, and their laughing and clapping.
Pathetic
well, it does prove his point
I mean, as a wrestling fan, I agree with him. Idk about morons perse, but we're definitely easily manipulated.
I always thought HBK should have had that win. Hogan didn’t have much left, and HBK was still putting on masterpiece theater work. And HBK never left, Hogan did, that’s another reason HBK should have been put over. Just my opinions though.
Nobody is better than Shawn Michaels. 💔.
Shawn's muscle mass is STILL impressive damn
this was 6 years ago lil bro
I was just going to mention this, that it looks like dude has bigger arms here in retirement than he did when he was active! Shawn was never anything remotely close to a "body guy"; to the contrary he is always mentioned as the very first name, the epitome of the much smaller, more athletic types that was turned to in the wake of the steroid scandal and defined the most beloved era of wrestling ever. Perhaps, indeed, part of his holding up so well is the very fact that he probably took it easy on the PEDs when younger in bodybuilding you see this often that these are the guys who can still look good and don't face health crises when older. This isn't a current video but he still looks quite good today. Especially for a guy who'd gone balls to the wall with something as generally, multiple-ways unhealthy as pro wrestling.
@@salvadorromero9712 He was always soo tiny(and still is) when he wrestled. He was a mid card guy at best, who obviously had some connections that made him a "heavyweight" title contender.

damn, seeing Shawn's muscles, specifically his shoulder repeatedly flexing as he moves his arm, he keeps his fitness up even when retired. make me think that as a NXT trainer he's using a more hands on approach and physically showing the guys a thing or two. its just interesting to see considering between his wwe runs he ran a wrestling school. Brian Danielson even trained under him, but Danielson has always cited William regal as his biggest mentor. back then it gave the impression amongst fans that shawn wasn't that great a teacher (this was perpetuated by whatculture in one of their many lists, not my personal opinion). I just like to view it as more character growth for shawn and he's now connecting with people more than in the 2000's. wish jim cornette would give him a second chance, I think shawns earned it.
I am 41 years old and I would go mental if I to be able to meet the HBK.
It was surreal to see Hogan return to WWE to work with guys like Shawn and Taker after they had become the faces to the company in his absence. They were only really starting out when he was first around, but they were now more on his level and had created their own legends by the time he came back.
It’s one of the greatest performances in wrestling ever. I love that he did it. Fuck Hogan.
Still one of the single best summerslam matches. Utterly incredible. How wrestling bios didn't add it to his best of shawn michaels episodes, i'll never know. The selling... so much selling... the man must have been penniless afterwards!

Hogan was so bad Shawn had to oversell but that only amplified Hogan's shortcomings
It really went over their heads when Shawn said they make it much bigger than it seems. Didn't expect claps to make me laugh
Hogan was long past his in-ring date. Michaels, the character, acted as a heel to try and bring out the best of Hogan, the character. Get him fired up, get him passionate enough to have a match that Michaels (the character) would know was facing Hogan at his best possible, and could he beat that guy. It's a decent story, for WWE. He did oversell, trying to make Hogan's offense look good, because Hogan isn't in 2005what he was in 1985, or even 95. Hogan's matches always looked ridiculous to NWA fans like me, anyway.
He oversold because he's a petty attention seeker, granted so is Hogan, but that match was embarrassing
I hope they dont go thirsty
Shawn had an amazing physique in 97. If he worked on his traps more, he would have looked like a legit bodybuilder.

I have never understood, and to this day I still don't understand, why people think "overselling" like that would make your opponent look stupid, or embarrass him. If anything, it should make it look like he's extra-beating the shit out of you.
I think because Michaels did it in a way that stretched fans' credulity a little too far. The shoulder block that sent him flying out of the ring and the big boot that made him fall down, get back up, spin around and fall back down again-- it just doesn't make sense according to laws of physics.
