For those of you with a skimmer basket, same thing happened to me. I put poly fill stuffing in my skimmer basket and every hour or so took it out and replaced it or cleaned it and reused it. Vacuumed the bottom of my pool, added some clarifier and stain away and by the next morning it was clear.
Did you add any chemicals before doing the "rust bucket filter" or did you wait and add them afterwards? We just filled our pool and the iron in our water looks as dark or darker as yours did. Yikes! Glad this worked for you! Thanks for posting!
Do you take out the filter in the pump and run this set up? I haven't heard anyone mention that in this style of rust bucket filter. I would imagine the pump filter would just plug up too fast like mine does. We used a water truck from our 30 acre pond so I had/ have rust in mine as well. Nothing to your extent.

This worked so well for me. Ran it 12 hrs and was almost clear. Let it run 24 hrs and I was good to go.

This is the method I've seen others use and it works!
Would it be easier to just put the water hose in the bucket before filling the pool?
Yes...filter the water before it goes into the pool...u have to add floculent for some particles to clump together and fall to bottom of pool

No I didn't add any chemicals. I just kept running it and changing out the polyfill and rinsing the filter.
@@therutledges6122 should we not use chemicals? If we don't the water has a funcky cow smell.
How do you stop water from coming out of the Jet hole where you have to unhook the hose?
My pool came with these black plugs to use.

It's called Poli-Fil, they sell it at Wal-Mart Super cheap!

I ran my pump with filter too and I just rinsed the filter every time I changed out the polyfill.
No keep the filter I have a sand filter system and have well water so alot of iron like his. Then with both your water is getting filtered twice
Use an rv filter on your hose along with the sock
