One more thing. I went to Walmart for the stuffing and it was cheaper to buy pillows (on sale, $4) than bags of it. My in-ground pool holds 20,000 gallons and I used two pillows. 48 hours from not being able to see the drain in the deep end to crystal clear. Amazing!

This is the first of a bunch of related videos I have started to study on this problem. I feel like I have to reinvent the wheel to get this under control in my 3000 gallon fish / water garden, I have drained and pressure washed the black EDM liner several times and spent thousands on pressure filters, uv lights and chemicals trying to get a handle on this exact same rusty water and algae. The rust will fall to the bottom in a week or so and leave a muddy scum there that will harden after a month or so. I filled a swimming pond with city water $$$ right next to the fish pond and the water stayed crystal clear for a while, the well water will start turning yellow within an hour or so in the fish pond. I wonder if old clothes and such would do in that filter? I'm sure it would do something but maybe not as fast, you could hose them down and then throw them in the washing machine for the next round.

Great idea and it works. It occurred to me that it would be a better idea to rig the bucket with a hose thread fitting and filter the incoming well water before it gets in the pool. Otherwise you still have sediment that settles on the pool floor. You either have to vacuum that out or keep sweeping it and stir it into the water and keep the filter going and repeat until it’s clear. Makes more sense to stop it at the source.
