You done a great job kiddo, you should be proud of yourself but you forgot ONE very important step: After straining buttermilk from it, you form your newly made butter in a ball. THEN put in a cheese cloth and rinse all the buttermilk out using very very cold ice water. If you neglect this, your butter will go rancid very quickly. It is also helpful if your mixer attachments and heavy cream is made very cold before starting.
Yes, really goid. You can make the butter not go rancid so quickly by putting the butter in a cheese cloth or straining bag, place in ice and water and squeeze it in the ice water to remove all the butter milk, water will get cloudy. Then press and form butter....
Whole Milk or Heavy? The title reads "Whole", however you stated "Heavy" which is different. I have made butter from Heavy Cream, but I don't know about Whole Milk.
You are right. It all depends how they call it in your country. The milk must be minimum 35 percent fat. I hope this helps. Thank you very much for your insight.
Cow's whole milk has anywhere between 3.5% to 5 % fat which means it can't be used to make butter. However, heavy cream has fat percentage of 30% or more and is ideal for making butter.
