- Hugh Jackman tells CNN's Chris Wallace what he had to do to prove that he could play "Wolverine" despite being almost a foot taller than the character and why he's reprising the role for "Deadpool 3."
#hughjackman #WhostalkingtoChrisWallace #CNN
It's pretty cool how Jackman has embraced Logan. A lot of actors tend to distance themselves from these big franchise roles but Hugh always seems delighted to talk about Wolverine
They like money
Agreed! But I think Chris Hemsworth gotta be the ultimate because he has so much fun playing Thor, it almost seems like a crime!😆
I’m not even a fan of Thor, but I love Chris’s portrayal of the character.
Hey was fortunate enough to not be type casted and still gets different kinds of lead roles.
Acting as a profession isn't really known for it's security, so actors tend to go for big money making blockbuster projects to make ends meet and then they have the freedom to do more fulfilling projects.
It’s the role that catapulted him to success in Hollywood

Not a single Wolverine fan I ever knew complained about Hugh being too tall. It gets brought up sometimes, but not in a negative way. Everyone loves Hugh Jackman in that role, and we're all stoked to see him one more time.
It would be such a great Deadpool-ish fourth wall joke to have a whole scene with Wade being taller than Logan, only to at some point pan the camera down and show Wade/Ryan standing on something.
All the nerds would rather he looked that jacked and for comparison they done a great job making him look like the wolverine
Hugh Jackman is a shitty Wolverine. Always has been
Hugh Jackman's perfomance made us wish wolverine was 6 foot tall in comics
Yup
It's so refreshing to see actors who don't complain about being "typecast" in a beloved role....but instead choose to embrace the character and the fanbase completely.
Outside of his Wolverine’s role, I don’t think he’s been typecasted necessarily… He was in The Prestige, Les Mis, Greatest Showman, Prisoners, Chappie, fuckin Flushed Away, and none of those roles carried the same trope… But yeah, I get what you mean.. Sometimes actors get tired when being asked about the role they were most popular for… Like Ben Affleck doesn’t like to talk about being Batman outside of his promotion for the movie… Hugh seems game whenever he was asked about Wolverine, even when he’s not promoting the movie..
Hugh is such a gem. Apart from his height, he born for this role. I have never seen someone who fits exactly to the role than this man. And he actually love and respect the comic character too.
The fact that the first X-men movie came out on VHS just gives me chills. He's kept the role for so long and has done such an outstanding job.

When deadpool 3 comes out that would’ve been 24 years since the first time we saw hugh as Wolverine and he’s still going to play the character in a movie for the 10th time. What a legend
There will never be a Wolverine better than Hugh. I don’t care that he’s tall. The dedication, passion, and time he’s put into this character is insane. Over 20 years and he’s STILL our one and only live action Logan. He embodies this character so perfectly
Fun Fact: Wolverine was not expected to be the break-out character of the New X-Men when the first issue came out in 1975. The creators thought that would be Nightcrawler. The character was featured prominently in the stories, and was also given high-profile guest star roles in Spider-man comics. Readers didn't respond though, and when Canadian artist John Byrne started drawing the book in 1978, the Canadian hero Wolverine was featured more prominently and the character soon became a fan-favorite.

@@wambokodavid7109 Nightcrawler is such a great character and my favorite superhero. I think the reason that Nightcrawler doesn't get as much of the spotlight is because he is genuinely a good person. This means he doesn't tend to cause problems or have a personal rogues gallery, which helps to push stories forward. It's easier to write a story in which the main protagonist partially causes a problem that then has to be fixed. He deserves better.
I remember after the last Wolverine film he said how much work it was to gain all that muscle and that he didn't want and didn't think he could do it again. So for him to do it one more time just shows his dedication to the role and to the fans. Hands down Mr. Jackman. You're one of the greatest.

Something that struck me when years back, watching the "making of" featurettes on the X-men DVD, is just how true your opening statement is. He was just bubbling with positivity! Wow, this interview was a treat. Hugh Jackman is awesome, one of my favorite actors of the generation and not just for his portrayal as Wolverine. I liked Hugh Jackman in The Prestige, he was good in Swordfish, I liked him in The Fountain (soundtrack was excellent too) and although Van Helsing wasn't the best monster film, Hugh Jackman wasn't bad in it. He was even kinda creepy (good in the context of the film) in Deception. To be honest, there was a lot to hate about the X-Men films and the first two Wolverine films, but Logan was fantastic. Jackman, Stewart, Keen, Merchant...excellent casting. The ending was sad, truly the end of an era but Logan is still one of the best hero films we ever got, bar none.

So much appreciation for Hugh and him embracing the role. Legendary
Doing old man Logan as his last movie was actually really good for him as it gave him lots of time and room to come back as Wolverine even as he gets older. Rarely, do we see an actor come back to play a role they've done many times and have left. I think this decision is partly Ryan convincing Hugh to do the movie. I don't think anyone else could. Really, as he said it's a combo of Ryan and the deadpool character. He also has gotten everything he wants to do the movie, such as being with his family and just training. He also is already in good shape. He may be also thinking why not go out on Movie number 10. But I'm sure if Deadpool 3 does well and they enjoy doing the movie. I think we'll see Hugh back for another one with Deadpool in some sort of fashion such as Dead Pool and Wolverine or something. I don't think we'll ever see Hugh coming back to X-Men. He is done with that. You know this movie is going to make a ton just because it has Hugh and Ryan in it.

Honestly at this point since he’s finally in the MCU, I’d rather not see anyone else take the role. Just keep Hugh for special events like RDJ as both are simply too damn iconic as the characters
5:50 his smile❤
Hugh"s portrayal as Wolverine in Logan was so bloody good. It's one of my all-time favourite movies. Equivalent to blood sport when I was young but on a different level.
Blood Sport??? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@ghostofguy yeah you’re too young
Love Blood Sport, but it was Kickboxer for me as a kid!
Great interview, done by Chris Wallace, who's not a comic book geek, in my eyes! More than happy to have more Wolverine by Jackman.
*And I will always love Hugh*
I am uber happy to see him back in the role.
Fun fact: I met Chris Claremont a few years ago and we were talking about Wolverine. His vision for the character originally was Bob Hoskins. He felt he had the short, squat, physical look plus the attitude. Don’t think he was ever interested but it was a neat idea.
Glenn Danzig wanted the role BAD.
Yea.. but he's too old to play a middle aged man

If Wolverine were to be a part of any rock band, it’d be Nine Inch Nails
If he wasn't Wolverine
He could've been casted as the perfect Superman or James Bond
