The Price of Oslo (Episode 1) | Al Jazeera World Documentary

- Thirty years ago, after decades of conflict between Israelis and Palestinians, a prospect for peace emerged.
It was September 1993, and a handshake between Yitzhak Rabin, the then Israeli prime minister, and Yasser Arafat, the then leader of the Palestine Liberation Organization, on the lawn of the White House raised hopes that peace would finally come to the Middle East.
This two-part series traces the secret road to the Oslo Accords, telling the story of negotiations that took place in the political shadows and a search for common ground in the midst of a region in constant turmoil. At the centre of it all was an unlikely mediator: the Scandinavian country of Norway.

Great documentary, thank you! It is helping me integrate various pieces of knowledge l have on this situation. I look forward to listening to the next episode.
Very interesting.
They should have put subtitles over the Norwegians speaking English. I'm struggling to catch what they're saying, and I'm a native speaker
turn on close captioning when they speak
Why? Their English is every bit as clear and understandable as that of the Israeli participants. 🤷🏻♂️

The truth is pretty simple: if any two states solution ever happened or ever happens, one which is vehemently enforced by each of the states on its own people and territory with the support of international public opinion at every new incident, there would be a new brew of terrorist attacks from clandestine groups on both sides. If there happened to be an effort to neutralize the muddling of religion and politics, as attempted during the kemalis period in Turkey, the outcome would also be the same. No one seems ready to uphold any laws in spite of religion or ethnicity. Period.
I have always wondering why an invader should be have the right to negociate in terms of equality with a native community, in this particular case the palestinians. That's simply outrageous.
An occupying force can't claim self defence...if this ever goes to court.
That part is clearly written.
Thats what happens when you lose a war (Ottomans WWI). You are managed by a foreign power.
Oh I wonder when was that in history that you won a war to claim the country you call is not real?
فعلا كلامك صحيح وهذا ظلم تاريخي لايمكن ان تساوي الطرفان مع بعض هناك احتلال ويجب ان يزول

As a norwegian I'm terribly disgusted by how my own little country has contributed in this conflict.
Helt enig. Men metoden demmes e "Hold Folket Splitta, Selg Løgn Som Smitta"

What? by trying to work out a peaceful solution?
Yes and that while all your 'little' country was only interested in oil. Go figure.

Is it just me or did it look like the PM of Israel wanted to punch Arafat in the throat. He couldn't even fake smile.
That's funny since ARAFAT was a total traitor meeting in secret with the Israelis for years and years prior to the meeting

Getting back to 1921 partition plan;
1] In August 1007 I was invited to the London Commonwealth & Foreign Office; with very important Gulf War information.
2] As thanks, I was appointed to a Commonwealth project to ‘Facilitate Israel joining the Commonwealth’
3] I asked why Israel’s entry was wanted.
4] They explained that after World War 1 1n 1918, as the War of Armageddon war was fought 19-25 September 1918 at Megiddo, they decided to re-establish Israel. The 1917 Balfour Declaration called for Arab land, so Trans-Jordan was established as the Arab Palestinian state in 1921, 0n 70%.
5] Israel’s 1922 establishment (on ALL of Cis-Jordan), was blocked by the new League of Nations.
6] The 1921 partition plan must be returned to!!!!
Agreed! That would give the West Bank to Israel. But the Arabs of the West Bank have been so lied to and brainwashed that they would never agree.

OIL OIL OIL
Neither Israel nor Palestine have oil...
if it were only about oil, the US wouldn’t have supported Israel after the boycott.
Makes NO sense
Some natural gas but no oil.
In February 1983, Portuguese socialist leader Mario Soares formally invited the PLO to send an observer to the April 1983 congress of the Socialist International in Sydney. The passionately pro-Israeli Australian Labour prime minister, Bob Hawke, strongly objected to the PLO's invitation; and the SI congress was hurriedly relocated to Albufeira, Portugal. Sartawi was selected by the PLO as its representative at this meeting in Portugal. Because the SI counted both the Israeli Labor Party and the PLO as members, it was hoped that such a meeting could promote the Middle Eastern peace process.
On April 10, 1983 Sartawi was shot and killed in the lobby of the Montechoro Hotel in Albufeira, Portugal. The gunman escaped. Sartawi's assassination (later claimed by the Abu Nidal Organization) was witnessed by SI secretary-general, Bernt Carlsson, and was assumed to have been carried out so as to frustrate Carlsson's peace efforts
Thank God there was no Jewish settlement in Western Kenya the way it was initially proposed. Right now Kenyans will have been facing this kind of displacement from the so called Isrealis.
