Although most fans thought that it was always going to be 7 and just YG marketing, I think it was as YG said. He initially wanted a 5 member group. If you look at the training times. 5 members, Ahyeon, Asa, Ruka, Rora and Haram(Rami) have 4 to 5 years training. Pharita has 2 years and Chquita less than a year. The Thai girls was added later as Lisa from Blackpink blew up the Thailand market for YG. The final evaluation was to re select the final 5 because the Thailand girls became a must have, but the girls through their powerful performances made it a 7 member group. You actually can't select a final 5 because they are all powerful performers in every aspect.

Asa,ruka,rami,rora - 6yrs
Ahyeon - 5yrs
Pharita - 4yrs
Chiquuta - 3yrs

@@rora_1986 you have to go back to when the video was First released. Chiquita was only 13 when she was introduced. She is now 15. So I am correct. Ruka confirmed in a public radio interview that Ruka, Asa, Rami and Rora has trained for 7 years. Ahyeon for 6 years now.

Ruka's voice is freakin amazing. It's like a mixture of Rora, Jisoo, and Onda. We really need some songs with Ruka singing.
Most people don't catch that the small group songs and the "Don't Know What to Do" cover was the same month and aired 2023 but was filmed Mid June - Mid July 2022. That's why they did the evaluators scoring after the Don't know what to do performance. Jennie showed up at the mid point of the small group challenge with orange hair. She died it that color for filming The Idol and showed up at Inchion Airport with it July 3rd 2022 and only kept it for 1 week. The following month individual songs, group song "Scars to Beautiful", and 2NE1 dance were the same month mid July - mid August 2022. Why he waited until Jan 2023 and spread it acros 4 months is still a huge question but everything worked out in the end.
Spoiler alerts: Chiquita gets the Cvid and does not sing as well as usual and also struggles during the group song challenge because of it. Ahyeon is told to pick a different song because YG didn't like her original choice and she changes to the now famous cover of "Dangerously" and leads to Charlie Puth gifting them "Like that". Either YG is the luckiest SOB on the planet or he is operating on a different level of genius than any of us can imagine.
