Williams cleaners had zinc washer that when fired would scour the inside of the barrel. The base would push up into the body of the bullet compressing the washer so that it would be larger in diameter than the bullet.

Jeff, those Williams cleaner bullets were almost universally hated by the troops due to a lack of accuracy when compared with the Menie bullet. They were packed with from one to three per packet of ten standard bullets and since the paper cartridge was colored differently, often times they were be thrown away instead of fired. As time went on, even the War dept grew to hate them due to more complex manufacturing required coupled with very minimal cleaning results.

Here's a handy little book called "A Handbook of Civil War Bullets and Cartridges" which will fit in your back pocket. Has a good run down on those 2 band .69s. Book is by J.E. & D. S. Thomas. Can't have too many books! Great videos, newly subscribed and will be watching regularly. Hope you find some artillery projectiles!

That .69 2 ring bullet is generically called a Prussian bullet. That specific bullet was used in the early .69 rifled muskets and you find them out here in the western theater a lot. It's predominantly found in federal camps and has been wrongly identified as a solely confederate bullet in the past. Nice finds!

Congrats on all your Civil War relic finds! That 2 ring .69 cal is a Confederate bullet. It also could be a Arkansas Musketoon bullet. I have also seen .69 cal Musketoon bullets that were Union bullets but these were from the Mexican War period; leftover rifles and bullets were used early in the Civil War by both Union and Confederate troops. Look and see if it has a deep cavity with a thin wall and flat bottom, if it does then it is a Musketoon bullet from the Mexican War. In any case it is a super bullet find! I agree with you about all those Lazy Azzes that do not fill their dig holes! It does not matter that it is a construction site, all holes need to be filled! Love those Box plates! I have 2 US Belt plates but have not found a box plate yet! Congrats! That is an amazing site for sure! ;-) PS: I use the 'Some Civil War Bullets 2' as my go to reference book.

Jeff; I have to ask...The top left bullet. First one in the top row, going from left to right.
There appear to be a couple of dents in that particular bullet. Are they, could they be "Teeth Marks"?
For some reason it just jumped out at me & I had to ask what you think about it.
