Super pro tutorial and you’re a very funny guy 😊
I've been trying to get into 3d sculpting for YEARS, maybe over a decade at this point and THIS is the tutorial that unlocked everything for me.
Each beginning tutorial out there for 3d scuplting/blender either says "you can't really sculpt in Blender because Zbrush is so much better", which is so unhelpful, because as you said, they are not really comparable programs.
Zbrush is a beast and does have a million other tools for sculpting and I'm sure it's a million times better, but it's not like Blender is without that capacity to start - and all I needed was that: a starting point.
Meanwhile, every other Blender program out there starts off with 5 hours of extremely basic 3d modelling and interface familiarity -- which is important sure! But I've been an artist for decades now and I am familiar with creative software and have messed around with Blender enough to understand some of the basic functions. The slog of creating primitive models (often not even sculpts!!) and going through the functions that I don't really care for at the beginning (why introduce me to materials in the first 10 minutes?) when I really just want a digital analog for clay is so defeating.
Anyways, this is a very long comment to say: THANK YOU. In the first literal 10 minutes of your video, you have enabled me to do exactly what I have been trying to achieve in 3d modelling in the past decade and have been stopped by inane walls of useless classes and information. I'm excited to continue my first actual functional sculpt with your walkthrough of controls and tools and I'm bookmarking the courses you linked as well!
What the hell. This was the best tutorial ive done in my life. Thank you. I didnt even realize it was 45 minutes past till u said so. So informative. Also you just saved me from buying zbrush.
I didn't realized it has been 40 minutes for me before I read your comment. Actually very detailed tutorial.
I'm having problem with shortcuts. Is he is using tablet AND keyboard???
Yes, he is using tablet. And he has also adjusted shortcuts according to his need.
U guys buy zbrush 😂
@@sreekanth7898 Already have Zbrush. It's not always about software. Sometimes it's about learning techniques.
'x gonna give it to you' Hahah, but the way you said it out of nowhere and expresssion, made my day. Thanks for the video helped me a lot
You’ve made this so digestible with so many pointers I haven’t heard anyone else explain so simply. Thanks!
Pro tip: Go to Edit > Preferences > Keymap and change "Spacebar Action" to "Tools". That way you can use just "Spacebar + " instead of "Shift + Spacebar + " for example "Spacebar + 1" for "Draw Sharp", "Spacebar + 2" for "Clay Strips" etc. The only thing that is going to be affected by this change is that now you will have to use "Shift + Spacebar" for Play/Pause. And if you had your "Spacebar Action" be "Search" for some reason, that is redundant because shortcut for search menu is "F3" anyways regardless of your "Spacebar Action" choice.
Another thing, you can check while in "Keymap" preferences is "Tab for Pie Menu" in which case "Tab" would bring up pie menu for changing modes (object mode, edit mode, sculpting mode, etc.) rather tan just toggling between object and edit modes which is default.
I hope this is helpful.
love the tab for pie menu, ty
As a Persian. I wanted to thank you. This was the best tutorial I've ever seen. I don't have access to international payment methods and I can't buy courses. This was so great. If i achieve any small success, it will be bc of you.
I'm 5 minutes in and this is already the most helpful and clear tutorial I've found on sculpting in Blender. Thank you!
I did your character modeling tutorial on skillshare to start to finish and it was the best I've ever done. What a pleasure to find you again teaching blender! Top artist and teacher right there
As a complete beginner to sculpting that has scoured youtube for guides and tutorials, this is by far the easiest to understand and descriptive one I have found that has made it far easier to understand and remember.
Hi from Ukraine.I saw thousand videos about sculpting and learn something new in every of them, but this is the first, where the sculpting show up so precicely and simple step by step. You are a perfect teacher dude.
Hi from Kharkiv ! :)
As someone who JUST started using blender I can't appreciate you enough. Thank you for all of your hard work!
I have watched almost all the best gurus on blender sculpting tutorials but I have yet to do it myself. Everyone OVERWHELMED me especially on not just learning but most of all , REMEMBERING each tweak with every tool. I am simply amazed at how EASY sculpting on blender had to be ... following your style and techniques ... thanks a load.... after almost 5 years of TRYING ... I have finally learned the right way... the simpliest way.
I've been locked into Zbrush for years. This video got me sculpting in Blender in a day. Thank you - love all your content and courses as well!
This is hands down the best video available! I searched until I wanted to give up. Many people left out important details that made it impossible to follow along. How to smooth, how to change radius on the brushes, pressing x, etc. Thank you taking the time to share your knowledge with us.
11:55 in Blender 3.5 just press "r", without shift.
thank you!
Thanks !!
Thank you!
Bruv it's not remeshing
seriously thank you for this. Ive been at blender for 5 days now and feel so much more accomplished due to your video.Thank you
I'm Excited! I've got into Zbrush a year ago, and your tutorials have helped me so much. I only recently started looking at blender for the hard surface modeling. It will be great to follow along again.
I'm starting to learn blender, and this is the best tutorial for sculping that I've found, very easy to understand, very clear. Thank you a lot!
This video is extremely helpful. By seeing how you do what you do, the order, the level of good/maybe before moving to the next thing, it lets me work on a different face and follow along very well.
my brother bought the "Female Anatomy for artists" for me. And I can say, This is the best course I ever seen!
I'm your fan, Nikolay
Niko, thank you so much for this video. This one was exactly what I was looking for. I even cant express how much you helped me. You are a great artist and amazing personality! Only respect!
This tutorial is just so awesome. I love your channel, it's super helpful (also, I really enjoy your sense of humour!)
Subscribed because you explain blender way better than many others. Thank you!!!!
This was amazing to watch because you got the proportions down instantly and it was just fun watching the face emerge. Great!
Amazing tutorial -- a great mix of knowledge and humor. You had me cracking up at the DMX reference with "X gonna give it to you" haha! Much appreciated man. Incredible work
Awesome video! You can also press f key to adjust the size of brush, I find it's a bit easier : )
Was gonna say the same xD
LOL! "X gonna give it to yah." This was a wonderful Tutorial. Best one yet on sculpting I've seen, so detailed and descriptive. Thanks!
Thank you for all your videos, I have learnt quite a lot. I like your jokes that randomly pop up when you are trying to explain things, helps me to not forget the point you were making.
ok you are by far one of my fav sculptors. the best advice is to sculpt as much as possible in low poly. for some reason it works like magic!! thank you
You can also assign the lower button of the pen to be middle-click instead of right-click in the pen tablet driver settings. This makes the "Emulate 3-Button Mouse" setting unnecessary and brings the experience a lot closer to how ZBrush works. The Wacom driver (and probably others as well) lets you do this per application, so there is no need to mess up your workflow in ZBrush to improve the workflow in Blender.
I don't understand how people can live their lives without having the middle button work as a middle button...
Why would you want to constantly hold the pen button in order to pan? Why check off the emulate 3-button when it works?
@@WieldMyWord At the end of the day it is just personal preference, you use what feels most comfortable for you. If you have used the pen button for navigation in ZBrush for years, being able to use it in a very similar fashion in Blender will certainly make the transition easier (that is what I suggested). If you used pan drag navigation in ZBrush (like Nikolay did I assume), the way he proposes may be more suitable. The Alt key is generally used to snap to fixed angles while rotating (similar to Shift in ZBrush). The 3-button emulation effectively disables this function that I happen to like, so that is one downside to me.
You can switch between objects with alt+Q with the cursor on top of the object you want to switch to. It used to be the D key on older versions.
This is really useful for someone who's learning how to sculpt humans. Thank you.
My man doing god's work
Thank you so much for your effort man thats a huge early christmas gift
Thanks for the premiere! Will have to watch in full soon :)
Thank You!!! I've learned so much. Your tutorial is clear and the explanations for why your doing what your doing are much appreciated. I can't wait to see the rest of your sculpting tutorials. Thanks Again!!!!!!
Even a year late it's still very informative. It really has all you need to start sculpting and I have to add that people in the comments contributed with some excellent tips as well.
The most important thing i took away from this that even uni never mentioned was "squeeze as much resolution in your sculpting before remeshing". I never understood WHEN to go up, but this, sir, is golden. Thank you! :) Took years later for this aha-moment to click into place, but I'm glad i found it now than even later! Thank you again!
Love your stuff man its a huge help, Im not new to sculpting but your video helped me improve in areas I was lacking
Every time I watch your tutorials I'm blown away how you can make low poly models look so amazing. You can almost see details in that low poly mesh. When I try to do this it just looks like a blob 😅
Oh my gosh: breakthrough!! I've been having such a hard time feeling brave enough to get over the initial overwhelm of starting out and this video was SO helpful.
WOW! Thank you so much! This was amazing! I'll be checking out more of your tutorials!!
Fantastic tutorial, for blender users and for general 3d knowledge, thank you for your time.
Thank you! I managed to sculpt a pretty decent head in blender following your video! Never used Blender before 🙂
i love the way you explain stuff. very entertaining
best tutorial on blender sculpting and i have scanned hundreds thank you speedchar
This is so cool! I'm glad I stumbled upon this video, for years I was really afraid of Sculpting in Blender because at first glance it seems like it's not really made for sculpting. Plus, my pen tablet stopped working, so I had to deal with a mouse, but after watching this tutorial I'm not worried in the slightest. I'm actually amazed because blender is free and it has all these features. So thank you!!
How do you people follow along? He doesn’t tell you how to actually use the brushes. Guess I’m not a artist lol.
You can press F to change the brush size with mouse/pen movements instead of doing it in steps with the [ and ] keys. Left Click to confirm, Right Click to cancel the change.
Thank you so much sir, you really helped me getting started with all the shortcuts and the workflow!
Beautiful tutorial. Thanks for starting me on my sculpting journey.
Best clear and micro-fine explanation with excellent practicing tips. I have learned more about Blender now...!! Thanks a lot!
Just found you - thank you so much on just an excellent video. I am new to sculpting with a tablet and you sir nailed this. All my questions answered in a very easy learning style. I have subscribed.
you are my favorite teacher, i love your tutorial-videos so much. Thank you!
Saving this, literally one of the best tutorial i've ever watch + very easy to understand
This is the best tutorial on sculpting that I have seen. I learnt a lot, thanks.
I been following you for some time, and I am blender user...this is much appreciated.
Not even six minutes in and I’m already having a lot less trouble than I was before, thank you my man
I loved your tutorial and the way of explaining themes. For a starter of learning blender your tutorial is very help+useful for me - I think for others also. Thank for that Nicolay.
Em 1 video você entregou mais que qualquer outro curso pago. Parabéns!
I'd also recommend ticking the "invert zoom direction" for the mouse so it work the same way it does in zbrush.
There is also a setting for disabling auto perspective when rotating in orthographic view, so it doesn't switch to perspective each time you rotate
@@kishirisu1268 its helpful for someone who used zbrush and now switches to blender
Oh, I didn't know that was an option. When sculpting the perspective jump can be super annoying depending on what you do. Thanks for this!
I was looking for a more in-depth video and you are awesome! :D I had so many tutorials where the model was smooth in the blink of an eye but it was not explained. Started to think I did something wrong or my pc was too weak. SUBSCRIBED! Great Video and keep up your great work! :)
Teresa are some very nice things in this tutorial. Thank you.
You definitely are a skilled artist, and my only concern was using the sphere instead of a cube for the base head.
Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial. It really helped me get better at blender.
Thank you so much! This is EXACTLY what I have been looking for! FINALLY! Really awesome tutorial!
A really excellent tutorial, thanks. Clear, detailed and tells the newbie exactly what he needs to know.
Thank you Sir! I can't wait to try this out. I'm downloading Blender now and Mixer. I have save you video to my playlist so I can come back.
Omg! I wish I could send my own head sculpt I made from watching your tutorial. It looks amazing and I’m just a beginner! I’m totally in love with your videos
You can send it to me in Instagram @speedchar3d or artstation, link in description :)
Dream come true! Thank you.
Thank you so much!! This is one of the best workflows i ever watch
Cách hát của Phúc hiện đại, tinh tế và mang hơi hướng Kpop nhưng lại rất ấm áp, dịu dàng...1 ca khúc tuyệt vời ❤
hi..i am just starting with blender and have watched a lot of videos but your video is by far the most understandable for me..thank you for doing the work it helped me a lot..
i love how niko fleshes out a basic head shape so easily
Great tutorial. Finally someone who takes care of anatomy and name it :). The idea of starting with a (maybe even modeled) base mesh and working with deforming the base and remeshing is very underestimated in most of the videos about sculpting too.
Sure we can make a squid by using the snake-hook but modeling it from a sphere and some cylinders and deforming and remeshing it afterwards brings much better organized meshes (which is important for animating them BTW)
Maybe it would be a good idea to turn on the wire-frame to make this better topology visible.
For hair there are particle systems in Blender - this could be a better choice than a grease pencil ;) if you need something less computing power consuming use hair-cards.
Great and thanks again :))
I listened with all my ears! Thanks!
I've been sort of doing blender sculpting as an on and off hobby over the years and the Shift+R shortcut frickin changed my life dude
cant use this shortcut please help
This is exactly what I am looking for. Nice and clear on every steps. Great video.
Thanks for this. Started Today and made my first piece following your guide :)
My first head looks like the head of a Cobra.. you make it look so easy. I guess after a few hundred hours ill get better. Must give props to Blender. It's the most intuitive 3d code out there for the money.
The other sculpting tutorials didn't mention the camera movement trick you opened with in Preferences, and I think you just saved me hours of frustration! Thank you! 😁
Great tutorial . I just started my adventure with Blender and this one helped me a lot . Thank you very much
your sense of humor is next level and skills as well. 😌😌
This was such a great tutorial! Thank you!
Love the video. The most helpful one that I found on the topic
Thank you so damn much. was ready to slit my throat with this program
I absolutely love your tutorial! Very laid back and easy to follow. Thank you!
This tutorial was so good! Easy to understand for a beginner. Thank you!
you are amazing.. I'm so glad to have you
The best tutor for sculpting in whole youtube channel😍
This is the best blender tutorial ever
More more more!!! Would love to see you sculpting with texture brushes doing pores and other skin details.
This one was really needed you know ? Although I started in blender and the learning z brush , but in blender this video from a pro sculptor was really needed ,
And joy fact , I also use the same wacom model
Wow! I can 3D model now. This will be relevant later. Thanks.
Thanks for the video tutorial, you are very clear in everything, I learned a lot
Very very good tutorial, I was completely lost before this video now I’m .. less lost haha
Very pedagogic with a touch of humour. Best tuto ever
Changed my life. Thank you!!
