I think “looking for lost phone” may have sounded like “little girls.” But, they should have left the man alone considering there were no little girls where he was searching

I wish they would stop saying he was smiling! Defense should have called a stress expert. I see no smile on Nicolai’s face. It is a grimace, a tensing of the cheek muscles that occurs during stress.

I'd like you to reconsider your opinion. Rewatch that video & then tell me how many times they told him or yelled at him to get away or go before the girls even came up. Then tell me how many times they continued to tell him to go & how many times the girls told him to go. ALL OF THIS was done with absolutely NO ONE behind him & his path back to his friends was free from obstruction. HE is the adult, HE is compelled to turn around & walk away based on that fact alone. Haven't you ever heard of sticks & stones?
      Sticks and stones
      May break my bones
But words can never hurt me
And allow me to lend wisdom to your one sided bleeding heart theory.
These were good boys. They weren't thugs, they had never been in trouble. They got good grades, almost all went on to college. Even the the last two boys that came over did so to protect HIM because there were so many kids. As many as there were, none of them raised a hand to him, none of them splashed water in his face, none of them had a weapon & none of them put their hands on him first. As a matter of fact, 2 boys were sitting alone in their tubes & HE came up to them. He aggressively grabbed their tubes & touched one kids' legs. The kids got up & told him to get away, go. He starts to walk away & comes back 3 times. Why? Let me tell you something. Watch any documentaries about the CIA, watch any documentaries about prison - when someone in prison wants to kill someone, they fashion what's called a shiv or a shank. That is they sharpen something plastic or metal until it's pointed & is usually 4-6 inches long. As you can guess, when someone doing life in prison stabs someone else, they are already doing life so the only sentence that can be added is death by lethal injection. Or if the person stabbing someone isn't doing life, they don't want to be caught because that means more charges & more time in prison. So obviously, in either instance the person doing the stabbing wants to make sure they kill the person & not just hurt the person. This is obviously so the victim doesn't wake up & testify against the perpetrator. Do you know how they are taught to stab so they kill the person?
SHORT, QUICK JABS, 2-4 times....IN THE TORSO AREA!!! THAT'S HOW THEY ARE TAUGHT TO DO IT SO THE PERSON DIES. 2-4 SHORT, QUICK JABS. How did this guy stab these kids? How long was his knife?
You don't find it funny that each person was stabbed with a short blade less than 3 times & YET, one died, one was disemboweled & one's stomach was hanging out of her 4" gash, which took a surgical cut almost the length of her torso just to put her back together. Do you realize what that means? Do you think someone who has never stabbed anyone before would know where & how to stab to do the most damage? OF COURSE NOT! The average person A) would either walk away or fight back according to their own fight or flight response, but he didn't have to fight because no one touched him. And he had PLENTY of time to make flight, walk away. OR B) if they felt their life was in danger & they had a knife they would just use it to threaten them to let him go or if they had to use the knife they sure as shit wouldn't know WHERE to stab to do the most damage, HOW to stab to do the most damage or have the confidence to feel that they have time to stab FIVE PEOPLE successfully. And they CERTAINLY wouldn't hit first & hit A WOMAN at that!
You can ask any child psychiatrist- a child's personality is formed by the age of 7. This man was raised in Romania, a very corrupt & violent country, at least until his character was formed. He was raised by a mother & father who were raised & lived in Romania. I'm sure his father wasn't particularly nurturing & women are treated very different in those countries. Young Americans tend to be so ignorant & think every country is like our country. NO COUNTRY IS LIKE OUR COUNTRY. We were the first free country ever created on the entire planet & we still are today. Do you think other countries have freedom of speech laws? NO. Other countries don't have a US Constitution. Romania undervalues women. Women are supposed to be barefoot & in the kitchen & when they're not in the kitchen, they're supposed to walk around on their knees waiting for their master to tell them what to do. Get me this, get me that, make me this, I want that. It's putrid! And if you think this man, a product of that kind of childhood, of watching women being treated that way, a man who's obviously familiar with violence & knows how to make the most efficient use of a 4" blade, a man WHO PUNCHED A FEMALE IN THE FACE - FIRST - BEFORE ANYTHING WAS DONE TO HIM - is innocent....you are so far from having any valuable intuition, you lack the ability to judge a character and your mind only has the capacity to think one way. Kids were laughing at him & calling him names so I guess they deserve to be disemboweled, to live the rest of their life with a scar that runs the length of their torso, and to be murdered. ALL FOR NAME CALLING.
I say that as a mother of 2 grown kids, who were raised not to call names. I HATE IT! They weren't allowed to call names, say stupid or shut-up, they weren't allowed to curse...and my daughter has raised my 8 year old grandson with those same values. She hated it then, but now can see how ugly it is when kids call names. Neither kid, son 28 or daughter 30 will curse in front of me, even though I wouldn't care at all. That's respect. So I do believe in respect. And I don't know if you have children, but you are effectively saying that if your child & his friend, at age 15, call a 50 year old man some names because he said something disgusting, and the man turns around & kills them because they're calling him names, that you would be totally OK with that. That is a very interesting perspective for a mother to have or for anyone to have. I don't know a single mom in this universe who would agree with you.
I have watched every second of this trial so far, every second that is available to the public, and I can't believe anyone would side with that disgusting man. They started recording because he said something about little girls. So you can tell that's truthful because when the video first starts more then one person is saying something about it. Do you think they telepathically discussed it & said 'let's call him some version of a pedophile at the same time so it sounds like we're telling the truth'... because that is what would have had to happen for these kids to be lying about it. When the recording starts they're in the middle of yelling at him, saying he can't say that. They didn't know the kid started recording right that second.
And lastly, the state played the recording of him being interviewed after his arrest. During this recording he said:
      1) There were a lot of people that came on to me and they produced two weapons, one I took from them. LIE
      2) They hit me and were on top of me....LIE
      3) I ran away to my group.....LIE
      4) I remember saying IF IM A CHILD MOLESTER, SHOULD YOU DRINKING? IF I'M A CHILD MOLESTER YOU SHOULDNT BE HAVING ALCOHOL. LIE that he ever said that and what does that even mean???
      5) They took my snorkel away & threw it in the water. LIE
      6) They grabbed my pants. One wanted to pull my pants down. LIE
      7) I don't know who it was but he had a knife on him. And then there was another knife, a longer knife that looked like a kitchen knife. LIE & LIE
      8) When the kid attacked me I took the knife from him. LIE
      9) MY friend lost his phone and he said well let's go look for it. LIE
      10) I went over to these guys and said 'Did you guys find a phone & if you did can I see it, can I identify it?'. LIE
Those questions were from when he first started talking in the interview which was at exactly the 1:40:00 mark (one hour 40 minutes in) and I stopped it at exactly the 1:42:46 mark (one hour 42 minutes 46 seconds).
That means in LESS THAN 3 MINUTES HE TOLD 10 LIES!!
People REALLY have to start using their brain. His wife even divorced him and they haven't even been married that long. If she thought for one second he was innocent or what he did was justified, she never would have divorced him. These little things are called clues. They are supposed to help you find the TRUTH. That should be the only importance in everything... TRUTH! But people like you care less about truth and more about feelings. What good is that? I try so hard to understand your kind, but understanding evades me. This man MURDERED A 17 YEAR OLD BOY. DISEMBOWLED A 23 YEAR OLD BOY AND STABBED & SCARRED A 22 YEAR OLD GIRL, plus injured 2 other people. And YOU think he should go free because kids were calling him names!
      PATHETIC.

@@carriepellicer9526 This post is amazing. I see this incident exactly the same! OMG! Thank God for you. I will also add this: 1) Miu likely dismissed the original question of "What are you looking for?" sarcastically with , "Little girls" and they seized upon this to taunt him. 2) Bullies (the guys) don't call strangers over to help 3) Victims (Miu) don't lie to your friends and relatives, the police, medical personnel and ditch their weapon. 4) Miu and his brother obtained a restraining order against their elderly father in 1999. Obviously Miu was likely abused by his father. Sadly, I am of the opinion that the taunting by the boys, the ladies getting in his face and his drunken state triggered him to respond stealthily and violently.

@@thisismajortom I am sitting here reading your comment with my mouth open, as I am in disbelief. Almost in shock.
First, allow me to say....I LOVE THE SONG MAJOR TOM! My Dad's name is Tom and he was in the Navy. It's not even that it particularly reminds me of him, I have always just loved that song so much!
Next, I fear you won't believe me but I'm a Christian and I promise on you know who that every word I'm saying is the truth. I was literally going to add ALMOST all of the points you made as well, but I felt it was already too long. But I THINK I made all of those same points, except one, in a comment I made on a video of a different trial day. I thought 'he probably did say something about little girls because he thought the boys would laugh or think he was 'cool' or something, because that's probably how younger MIU spoke. That if he was innocent he would've immediately told his family, and found a cop on the beach and approached them and gave the cop the knife and would've been traumatized that he just had to murder a kid!
I never thought about the fact that bullies wouldn't call for help, but you're spot on! And I had NO IDEA until I just read your comment that MIU had an issue with his father. And you're exactly right, it's what lead him to respond the way he did. Almost like 'These punk kids aren't going to tell me what to do!'
Thank God for you! I just know that we are best friends in some parallel dimension somewhere, LOL!! We are definitely cut from the same cloth and have probably had some of the same life experiences to be able to see what we see.
I heard more than half of people polled think MIU is not guilty. I can't believe that. It must be that everyone is so sick of seeing young adults punching people, stealing, ganging up on one person in fights.... we're all sick of it. We all know how teenagers are today. The young lady Riley is 25 and a high school graduate but didn't know what the words retreat or recoil mean. So yes, it can be frustrating. But we still have to judge each person by their merit and each incident without prejudice. Otherwise we cease to be America.
Thank you so much for your compliment & I wanted to return the favor. You are obviously more wise than most. And though I don't trust many people, I wish I had a friend like you. Where it's almost like we share a brain because we think so alike.
God Bless you and your family. Continued wisdom & blessings on your life! 🙏

Did these teens get charged with assault? The video online shows very cut and dry. Those teens need to be charged with assault and battery. This was self-defense. If you attack someone, then they absolutely have the right to defend their life. A gang of punks probably drinking and maybe doing so illegally because they have negligent parents that act like kids themselves assaulted a 54 year old man ALONE so yea, if I had a knife in that situation then I would have pulled it too and stabbed a gang if they are ganging up on me. This is ridiculous that the actual criminals are not being charged, and the defender is being attacked.shame on these parents for raising hellions for kids. My parents would roll over in their Graves if I ever dared act the fools that those teens do. It's so disgusting to think that they honestly believe that they are victims here. Mr. Miu is their victim. Not the other way around.

This is Miu's case, not a case for the others.
G1, teen boys. Isaac was the only one who touched Miu and died.
G2, not teens. They behaved badly too. Maddie and Ryhley touched him and shouldn't have. He allegedly hit Maddie. So, of course her group, along with Isaac, defended her. I'm not condoning it.
He was acting weird and approached G1 while they were down in their tubes.
Miu had opportunities to walk away. He didn't.
A lot of people did wrong, including him.
There are two separate groups with different behaviors and intentions. It wasn't one group.

Throughout this trial I’ve been trying to put myself on both sides of this. If the defendant was my dad, if the teens were my sons, if either one was me… where I keep getting stuck is, I would never do what those boys were doing that day. I’ve never treated anyone like that in my life-not even drunk. My sons have never treated anyone like that in their lives-not even drunk. Not even in a group. The boys essentially had a hand in their friend’s death and they’ll have to live with that forever. I hope they learn from it. I guarantee this isn’t the first time they’ve acted like this and have always walked away from it unscathed and emboldened. This time it ended horribly.
My dad had to go to civil court for putting an 18yo kid into/against a wall for picking on my little brother every day after school.
One thing I don’t think the defense made a point of-Miu didn’t run at people stabbing them. He got pushed into the water, got up, got pushed down again in the back by AJ, and as he stood back up he jabbed at him and AJ was sliced. Then Rhylie came at him, he turned and got her once in the side (everyone keeps saying back-it was her flank as he turned). Then Issac put his hands on his chest, up to his throat, the other hand came up and he got jabbed in the chest. The only people stabbed were people who put hands on him, including Dante.
For those saying he shouldn’t have hit a girl, we don’t see the “hit” whether it was a hit, punch, slap, or push. Whatever it was, if you are not “acting like a lady” you can’t suddenly claim to be a delicate butterfly when you’re swatted at. She was all up in his face yelling profanities and her voice was so obnoxious and grating. I can’t say I wouldn’t have pushed her/punched her either.
Having said that, if I had 13 people surrounding me what would I do? I think if I knew I had a knife in my pocket I might pull it out. I think I would’ve been afraid someone would have taken it from me and used it on me because there were so many of them. Especially if you warned then you had one. Unfortunately Miu just knew how to use the knife very well.
Someone who wears their shoes out completely before buying a new pair is the type who wouldn’t let a phone go or a snorkel set go without trying to find it. But I fault him (Miu) for not just continuing to walk away the first time as soon as they started yelling he’s a raper-it wasn’t worth the phone or the snorkel to continue engaging with obviously drunk and disorderly teen boys.
The whole thing is awful and never had to happen at all. It could’ve just been a beautiful/fun summer day for all.

AJ got slashed up the way he did because he was pushing into him as the knife was going in. I don’t think that mr. Mui you knew what that knife was doing in the moment. It’s very sad if I was the parent to these boys, I would be disappointed in them. “Being cruel” with WORDS doesn’t justify pulling a knife out and then hitting someone in the face who has barely touched you. I too hope they judge on evidence and not Miu’s fragile emotions. Madison was yelling at him to GO AWAY. Why didn’t he?! If he had, and hadn’t chosen to start a physical fight, we wouldn’t be here right now. He chose that path, and now he wants to claim that he was in the right for stabbing them? When some of them he had to literally REACH OUT in order to stab? Give me a break. He chose violence when they chose “disrespectful words” (To start). He knew he couldn’t win without a knife, so he took it out, got it ready, then attacked. He took out the knife BEFORE HITTING HER. He knew they would retaliate and then he’d have an excuse for “self defense” . Of course they’re going to retaliate against him hitting a woman. He knew what he was doing, and immediately tried covering it up and playing dumb and “forgetting” oh so convenient things. Thank GOD for that video and all of the witnesses who saw him hit her first. Thank god he’s being exposed as a massive liar.
By the way, when did getting punched a couple times = fear for life? ACTUALLY-when did getting *told to leave and gently pushed in a direction away from people by a female 1/2 your size* = fear for life? Because THATS when he took out his deadly force.. when a female gently pushes him to leave, and “mean words” are being said about him. Boo hoo, you’re the adult, the other adult is telling you to get out of there.. but you don’t… WHY? Because your ego is bruised and you want to shut them up with a fight, that’s why. He did not clearly communicate to them while approaching. It is not normal for a man to approach a group like that. Whatever he allegedly said, was not clearly communicated so that the whole group could hear him say it.
If I approached a group, I would be talking as I was approaching them. He was acting suspicious, weird, creepy. Quinton said he saw Miu go up and touch their tubes from behind before he went around them and turned around to face them which is basically when Jawahn started filming. He said he started filming because Miu was acting weird. The guys were terrible and overreacted to Miu. BUT, he overreacted and initiated physical contact in the first 6 seconds. G2 approached and overreacted. Maddie and Ryhley touched him and shouldn't have. BUT, once again he could have walked away. They were all telling him to leave. He didn't respond verbally much to anyone and overreacted to the gals. He hit her and already had his knife out. He acted terribly. They behaved badly.
Several people could have walked away, made better choices.

They were obnoxious but, still had the feeling to be suspicious of an older man approaching them. They misbehaved verbally. But, even after he lunged at them while they were down in their tubes and touched their tubes and legs, they were not standing and didn't touch him.
They continued being bad verbally, calling him out because they weren't sure what he was doing, although Owen said he said he was looking for a phone, the whole group did not hear that. Jawahn said he started filming because Miu was acting weird and suspicious. They called for help.

If you side with a defense then you probably raised your children do not display such behavior or treat an individual in this manner. Or you are a child who has been raised by decent parents to treat people decently. I mean come on man even on the stand the guy keeps calling the most offensive woman “a lady“ and she was far from a lady. And I DO believe that he raised his hand to her. But I believe that’s all he did. I think a couple people saw him raise his hand and jump to a conclusion because they were looking for some reason. They were begging for a reason and they were worked up into a frenzy. She got shoved out of his face but they interpreted that as a punchAnd then they all got together because they knew that his only defense would be if they could prove he was the initial aggressor

This isn't about the kids behavior. It really isn't. Why you think people deserve to die because a group of young, drunk guys are out of hand and taunting a guy who is invading their space is beyond me. Miu triggered this by hitting a female from the intervening group all the while checking to make sure his knife is there to use. How about judging the 50 year old on a rather futile drunken quest for a lost phone in a large, wide river when they didn't even know when it fell. Heck, the guy who lost the phone wasn't even bothering with looking! If he wasn't so hammered and used basic communication or walked away at any time nobody dies even if the guys are obnoxious and drunk.

The mob is increasingly violent. Which is clear on the video. I mean it’s like a song building to a violent crescendo. I don’t know why this is an obvious to everyone. But as I stated in my earlier comment you must belong to the first category. Judging by your name I’m going to guess you’re about my age. I agree that we were all kids at one time, but not only was I taught not to treat my elders in such a manner but because the way I was raised I just simply would not have participated in such vile behavior. And I don’t believe you would have either. Yes their behavior is not what is on trial here. I don’t believe and I never will believe that he actually punched that girl. I am almost positive that he did raise his hand to either knock her face or hand away but I do not believe he punched her. I also believe that all those kids on the witness stand were made aware of the requirements (who was the first physical aggressor) in order to cater their testimony to the actual punch. One kid who is actually shown on the video to be looking in the other direction still insisted that she was punched even though he didn’t see it. I also don’t believe that the man intended on killing anybody, I think he was just trying to deter them away from himself. The one young man who got opened up from stomach to sternum what is because of unintended movements during the scuffle. You only have to watch the video and that scene in slow motion to see if that is the case.
