  • The first test run of a solar powered quadricycle.
The quadricycle was built by Charles Oravec, Lab Supervisor & Electronics Tech for the Occidental College Physics Department and Awot Ghirmai.
It has four car batteries, which are charged using a solar panel. It is driven by two electronic motors, one in each front wheel.
Also present at the testing were: Jean-Luc Gauvreau, Post-Doctoral Fellow and Steve Sadler, a PhD student at the University of Sheffield, UK.
The bike was created as a summer exercise.

It has a nice sprint despite everything. Investing in solar energy is a blessing!

@mamaxwell I don't know the manufacturer. The frame was left over from a different project and was originally a standard pedal-crank-chain assembly, which means it was a bit heavy for our purposes, but still works. Thanks for watching!

Probably very little since Occidental College has an endowment of $330.7 million & is a top private College. My two oldest sons went there as physics majors & went on to receive engineering degrees from Columbia U. in NYC. They loved Oxy.

would be a good idea to have it, even if the sun is out with pedaling you could assist it and get higher speeds or go to uphills,

You should use bigger motor with lower KV like the RV-100 motor that I use.
It will draw less Amp's and with lower Temp.

the camber on the front wheels is your problem, make sure the 4 wheels are square, left to right frontright and vice versa, and front to back should be same mearsurement.

Where is the quadricycle from? Did you manufacture or retrofit the quad? If you bought it made, who manufactured it? Thanks.
    Loved the video.

How long will it run on a charge before you need to let the solar panel recharge it? Will it run at all on just the solar panel powering the motors?

We are looking to design a low cost solar powered tricyle for the waste pickers in my city. Would you guys be able to help? I work for an NGO that is focused on solid waste management.

just take a level put it against the two front tires, center ,ground to top of tire, make it 0deg,tire exactly straight, then measure back to back at rear of front tires and front to front make exactly same, you could add a 1/8 inch to rear making fronts toe in a little. The alignment will make it roll with little resistance, increasing range, speed and handling. Now back to my question, could advanced civilizations live in black holes,is it a portal to another time and space?

make make the electric Rim hubs on the rear so it has more rear end power and your steering is more freely so it doesn't mine and twist seems like your steering is off you could possibly make it stiffer once you put regular rims so you can have maximum control 4 mobile blue tea

Really guys is that the best you can do. A lab supervisor, a post doctoral Fellow and a Phd student from Sheffield University make an 8mph solar bike at a so called reputed Occidental College Physics Department. I`ve seen on CZcams a kid from the Phillipinnes do 10 times better. All the monet we pump millions into renewable energy research and higher education and that`s the best you guys can do. Frankly I`m discusted. If I want to be educated in renewable energy I think it`s best to consult the kids in the Philipines at least they share their inventions in detail on youtube not like you lot make a 2 minuite video demo. Laugh Out Load LOL, REALLY LOAD. Remind me not to send my kids there ? ? ?
