- This is a Fully Charged exclusive! Not something that has ever happened before.
We present the prototype Schaeffler Bio-Hybrid personal transport system. A pedal assist car? A four wheeled bike?
So easy to move along and just enormous fun to drive/ride. Let's hope they develop this into a fully fledged product.

Many people would take one of these to work, we definitely need these to be promoted.
These shouldn't be street legal, they represent a road hazard and impede traffic and are a huge safety risk. Anyone bringing this to work should be fired, as they clearly don't care about the other people whose travel they are impeding and don't care about safety, and so represent a risk to the company and aren't team players.
is this e bike for 2 person
That roof going behind the seat is some fine engineering
Rodrigo Vazquez I was wondering, why is there extra padding behind the seat, and then he put the roof down....
I imagine you have to move the seat to the front and back depending on the length of your legs
agreed
Rodrigo Vazquez right!!! I was thinking just about how clever that was!!!
vorsprung durch technik.
This video made me so happy. I really enjoyed seeing how much fun Robert had. The roof stowing is ace too!
I love this man.
I also love that he thinks the “roof” will shield him from rain ☺️
in time where to find these
Think like an engineer: when you're moving and it's raining, it WILL.
@@glittercatstudios No engineer in his right mind who has spent any time riding a motorcycle or moped in the rain is going to believe that that roof will protect him. All it will do is change the way the water hits him. Yes, it's better than nothing, but the statement is wishful thinking or misleading at the very least, your capital letters notwithstanding. The windshield is more protection than the 'roof'. It's an open air vehicle. Ride it in the rain and you're going to get soaked. Period.
I hope they test the new Podbike or the Canyon future mobility concept!
That was my thought exactly. Rain frequently comes at you at an angle. So will spray from passing vehicles. It should have removable, lockable doors to protect from the weather and to protect your belongings. It should have a larger motor too, but I understand that’s not an option in much of Europe.
That thing has to be put in production! You absolutely must make it available!
I love the looks/design of this pedal car and I have seen at least 30 different ones
now on youtube
this grow man is having soooooo much fun, really good to see that, great video of a nice form of transportation.
"Im protected from the weather" but all I see dry very top of the head- everything else will be soaked wet in mild side rain.
yeah i was hoping that wudnt be the case but it appears so...
easy to seal the sides with a nice tarp or something
@@SubjectiveFunny a nice tarp? Yeah if you wanna see your mileage get cut in half, or tip the fk over when you try to make a turn in the wrong wind conditions
nayyy brother, when it comes to light vehicles, really gotta know what your doing with modifications. I'm sure it could be done, don't get me wrong, but it would need to be designed. Like you can't just tape it on
Not when it's raining!
@@solomonjenkins9505 just imagine, a big tarp draped over this contraption, but a modern version, perhaps one could aspire to the Darth Vader sort of look🙂
Very well done video, Rob! Love the camera angles, some of the shots your cameraman does could make anything look cool!
Wow, lately I've been absolutely amazed with battery technology and has its come, quite amazing. Really glad and hoping to see more supporting these ideas. I recently just got a Boosted board and love it for transportation.
I’m really sick of watching cool prototypes and nothing coming of them.
Stop voting for politicians who care about car companies more than citizens
I understand the roof would look inadequate to a habitual car user. However I've ridden miles with wet glasses; rain running down my collar despite scarf; and eventually permeating my cagoule zip. Verily I do say - in conjunction with the blatant requirement for sensible outdoor clothing - this torso-roof will be a God-sent shelter, to the happy user of the machine.
Subscribed years ago to support Mr Lewellyn, after seeing him look a bit forlorn in Carpool (which as it turns out, became a genre-defining gem that he can be proud of!) Great to see this channel taking off. I'm positive there is a market for less polluting vehicles.
Living only ten miles from the city centre I don't need a car, but this cycle video caught my eye as an option for those fed up of sitting in the traffic jams that I go sailing past. There must be travelling professionals, who wish to go faster and greener, but are unable or unwilling to pedal with full exertion throughout the day.
I just loved it!! I wish I could have one of this. It seems so easy to ride and so much fun
This is not only a very valid and useful product for our cities, but also looking great! 👍🏻 Wider bike lanes and we are talking future individual transport!
his review. i love it. "turning circle turning circle" my new phrase
What an awesome time to be around to see all this, amazing!
As a follow up when a production version becomes available it would be helpful to test it somewhere with hills, such as Cornwall where I live.
Very good point, I hope they do go into production, if they do, I'll test it around where I live in the Cotswolds, we've got some hills, not as much as Cornwall but they are still hills.
fullychargedshow fish hill,Broadway
i would suggest a 3 kW motor. Do you think there will be a fully electric mode without pedaling? It would be the best
I was thinking it looked like it could tip over going at speed around a corner down hill. It reminded me of the trolley my Dad made me with a raised seat. It looked really cool and more racey but tipped over more easily in the downhills/ sudden turns
@@quantumthinker3248 if you have piwer thats unassisted it would need to be insured taxed etc but as long as its power assisted peddling you dont need any of that stiff as they are classed as bicycle's
That roof !!! Ok that's really cool !!
Look how happy he is, this looks like so much fun!
Very *nice vehicle for travel.*
It's like a motorcycle with more comfort and less speed. Can be perfect for long range cycling trips in central Europe, where there are special cycling roads for travel !
Sinclair C5 flashback!!! Everything is being reinvented these days - even the EV!
nice one Sir Clive...
Clive Sinclair I know right. And that product made Sinclair a bit of a laughing stock. This vehicle is restricted by the way it looks. Maybe useful for people who need mobility scooters but would benefit from the exercise that peddles give.
pedant posts: peddles? preposterous! pedals
It is more like a Twizy with pedal power.
How about the seller having to peddle this thing before the buyer can pedal it?
I love your channel Robert. You do such good work.
I love this! Let's all build a community around vehicles like this!
Quiet, no smelly scooter exhaust, stylish, and not so far to fall to the ground if you get into trouble. More visible than a bike, so cars see it.
I like the removable battery: have a fully charged spare at all times.
Go to work and not get sweaty.
Get sunshine and fresh air, and get there quickly.
Too big to easily steal. Fit into small parking spots.
My disabled adult son could ride this safely, and join me on my bike rides, and get a little exercise.
Put Solar on the roof!
Just found out that the company went bankrupt. I was waiting for this product to come to the Philippines. This would've been a hit.
Bobby, you need to do more videos on these very light enclosed bicycles, velomobiles, two-wheeled enclosed recumbents and such. Take a look at Cedric Lynch's wonderful enlosed two-wheeler, and think at that scale. THAT IS the future. I'm not sure we will have the resources to produce our glitzy electric automobiles you're always falling for.
Robert, you might want to have a look at the "Twike" as well! I would love to see it appear on your show.
The Twike is a three-wheeled electric car developed in Switzerland and produced in Germany today. The thing about the Twike: It has pedals but is a real car (well, except for having only one wheel at the front and two of those at the back as opposed to some famous British sportscar engeneering). That allows it to have a considerable amount of power and, given its very low weight, decent speed and range plus the ability to do sports on your commute. You can cycle on the Autobahn! \^^/
Also, the Twike has been produced for more than 20 years now.
On the other side, there's the price: It is shitty expensive compared to "normal" production cars due to the fact that the Twike is only produced in little numbers. But they are actually developing a new model I would love to hear something about from you and which could maybe change that. This new model won't have direct pedal-to-wheel drive but charge the battery when you pedal.
Hope you were able to understand what I was trying to tell you and that I will meet the Twike in this show soon!
Mit freundlichen Grüßen aus Deutschland,
Ernst
I really liked how the roof folded away cleanly and simply. Nice.
Righteeeeooo! Excellent layout glad you’re having fun
Cool Bycycle Car...we need this type of cars more across the globe...
Love it, tell them they have an order from me!
A plush fully suspended ride, warmer travel due to wind screen and roof, no balance issues at stops, storage room plus a motor so no arriving all sweaty! Lets face it, the roof gives this bike huge benefits over over scooters and motor cycles too. These advantages have huge commercial potential in the area of commuting and shopping. Well done guys.
This vehicle is great. It's the comfortable version of the bike. We should all use these kind of vehicles in the cities. Especially if you take in consideration that most cars have only one man inside in the city.
Now all we need is side by side seating so we can enjoy with a friend ☺️
This is going to be great! Especially for older people who might not exactly want to ride a bike. How fast does it go? I wasn't sure if it was all pedal action or somewhere in between like the up and coming electric bikes.
The last mile. IIRC that's when most car accidents occur in the US, and we have a staggering amount of traffic fatalities in America. Something like this would be an amazing way to save lives and raise the quality of life for the average person.
In America 4 wheels are not allowed, so the best alternative to this would be the IRIS e-Trike. It also has up to a 1000W motor and a more aerodynamic design.
This is so COOOOOOOL!!! I love the fun this guy is having!!🤓
that roof, wow!
It would be nice to see uphill performance.
Probably quite slow with all that weight. But they are actually planning on making a fully enclosed version. Hopefully they use dual 111 NM motors from Heinzmann. They will give the most speed uphill while still being legal. The Bayk Bring S has that setup, and it is crazy strong.
I'd definitely buy one! That's one beautiful engineering!
Fantastic, I hope our roads will be full of these
This is the most amazing possibility I've seen in recent years that excites me to the point I want one for myself! Wow double Wow
BUT it is one of the most pointless things ever. It doesn't even have cargo area!
@@talkinglukashenko4303 Look again - there's a platform in the back and it'd be dead easy to add a box for enclosed storage.
@@signalfire6 yea only a backpack
They should call it the Hackney Hipster Carriage :p
Hipsters don't use electricity, let alone motors. They only ride fixies and other ironically anachronistic modes of transport like 2-stroke scooters. I pine for the days when people still knew what 'hipster' (or any word, really) actually meant.
Adelaide,South Australia is the perfect city for bicycles, when not affected by COVID 19 the city is the annual host to the TOUR DOWN UNDER. That makes this the perfect city to release the Bio Hybrid in. As a once professional driver TAXIS, HIRE CARS and BUSES, I m left in the dark since I had a stroke going on nine years ago, leaving me without a licence. The Bio Hybrid would open many doors for me, including potential employment. I need one of them, and I need it now,
BEST WISHES
Craig. “HAWKEYE” Hawkins.
Very good indeed this quad, I'm absolutely sure that if I had one of these would help me a lot to exercise and help me get around because I find myself with depression fibromyalgia and hernias of disc, and from what I saw in the video would bring me exclusive results. , shame that I find myself unemployed and without any kind of income to earn a little money, but I propose to do tests and spread the brand of this product here in my country, of course I had to have one of these, for sure. People would be very interested in this vehicle so well built and increasingly useful in urban centers for mobility, without noise without pollution, simply PERFECT.
Please make a fully enclosed version of this, so the rider can be protected from rain/cold. As long as the price is not too high, I guarantee it's going to sell.
The roof doesn't look very protective but you add a couple of expansions to the pivot system
Great combination! wonderful invent!
Good job, keep up the good work. This project got our interest.
I think that is a Hybrid between Renault Twizy and a Bike.
Henrique Vefago
It's also between a humvee and a toy wagon.
Oh so in-love with this chap's 'NESS.
JUST adORABLe
If love an e bike version of the 3 wheel bikes used in Japan for deliveries. Love the large locker they have on the back and the canopy to provide a bit of extra protection
He had me cracking up when he was doing turns, and also going over the speed-bumps.
Robert, sir, you are the most adorable when you're happy. P.S. I want a blue one.
Regen braking and a small solar roof, that would be great!
And make it extremely expensive. This e-quad would probably cost £4000 to about £6000. There are bicycles that sell for over £8000 at the moment. Take a look at La Pierre bikes.. The prices are ott.. Greyp G12S are well over £5,000 & are illegal in England. As England is governed by Muppets..
Thank You Loader. They add a proper seat. Better than some others. That is a brilliant place for the roof. Good job. Maybe they can add a self recharge so as you paddle it recharge itself.
Side doors, 60mph max speed, bit thicker tires, performance brakes, you got the perfect quadricycle.
So THIS is what a Twizy looks with all covers removed…
I found an article where they say the price will be "like upper-class pedelecs, so between 5000 and 7000 Euros.". You can get a Twizy for that!
"Last mile"
That is NOT the last smile vehicle.
Cant exactly take that in a bus or subway.
That's what I thought. Electric scooter you can even if some drivers try to moan when they see you with it
Is that a challenge?
Of course that is a last mile devices - may be you need a ramp for your pickup truck too
It was bloody great you showing us a brilliant piece Oak machinery I like the way the roof comes off very brilliant again you guys love to use as brilliant and bloody a lot lol. Far out man he he.
A fabulous ride with clear advantages over a roofless 2 wheeler. Bring them on!
Well done, efficiency + fuel /noise reduction + excercize + space reduction .cost. saving..etc
This would be perfect in the Cayman Islands.
I love this idea, brilliant! I want to ride it in Amsterdam!
I like this. I think in the back there is no need to have two wheels one is sufficient for such an ebike hybrid type. The roof should have side rolling screens available when needed during rain or wind.
That will be my "mobility scooter" when I'm 80 onwards.
yangtse55 😁😀
"I'm protected from the elements"... Ha ha ha ha ha ha
I CANT WAIT TO HAVE ONE OF THIS
Not often I use this word for concept electric vehicles but.....AWESOME the pivoting roof idea mind blowing your simple but the best ideas are.!! Great video.
Looks really enjoyable! Loved how you were loving it .. But jealous though :-D
Love it. But how did you go through and make that whole video without mentioning the Sinclair C5?!
I was tempted but it seemed such a cheap gag. Having had to ride a Sinclair C5 around trendy Notting Hill for a TV show years back, the deep humiliation has left psychological scars that may never heal. It was such a rubbish machine it's hard to recover. I didn't want to lower the tone :-)
fullychargedshow it way way ahead of its time Clive Sinclair had the right idea !
Quite right too! I had a go in a C5 when they were a very brief "thing" - it was a flimsy deathtrap with very delicate construction and incredibly poor handling. The Schaeffler in this video looks 1000x more sturdy and safer, built with quality components and seems very easy to ride, by comparison.
This is the most exciting electric assisted vehicle about which I have thought 'I want one of these.' And it's well made, too boot - it must go into production!
Great peace of work. I really like this.
Almost 2019 and still waiting :(
hearing him giggle like a little school girl made my day
Upgrade kit includes folding fins that appear out of the wheels themselves.
A completely seal electrical system, and a foam core construction making the cabin area waterproof, and able to drive into the water and become a pedalboat. (only 500 dollars extra)
I like this car very much. it's a pity that such a project did not develop.
Yep. You look like a right Schaeffler in that.
I can look like a right Schaeffler in anything. :-)
nice, I want one :D
Now you can finally order it on their website! "only" €9500...
oh... nice
instablaster...
It's basically an imitation of the American ELF 3-wheel. It provides a whole cab, a back seat, and a trunk for packages.
Problem is theft everywhere, it's a expensive target.
It will never be for sale, these products always get showcased, but always fizzles away, the problem, they make these things so complicated, so expensive, that the cost of the bike cannot be mass produced, it becomes a novelty item for a few rich folk.
You ever heard of concept cars? No? Okay, I don't have the time to explain this. Maybe look it up. 🍄
JS - that came across as a little harsh.
I think too much money is spent by tax payer subsidized manufacturers doing concepts where very little from them come to fruition. And when we see a good common sense ideas they never come out,,,why...because it is just 0.2% under their profit margin cut off?
Maybe a little more "politeness" on your part. I looked that one up for you since your busy (behavior that is respectful and considerate of other people).
Lets try and make this forum a better, not a bitter, place.
I wish you nothing but the best to come.
Cheers, Patrick
Send one sample to the Chinese, they show you the lowest cost of it.........
I agree, the way it is.
It will be for sale ;) At the end of the year, the first customers will get there bikes. www.autozukunft.de/mobilitaet/schaeffler-bringt-bio-hybrid-in-serie/3581/
very good and useful, I want to go to work using it.
this is absolutely giddy riding this thing its adorable
"That's all we have time for..." ...wait, what? How's that work? Did you run out of Internet??
Im being honest here, that roof dosen't look like it will do much at all in the rain
Scott RC it works well against the leaves tho
Very true. It is an outstanding feature of this bicycle
Until you realize there's no window wiper.
+Pracownia Maciej Długosz
That's actually a good point, still, gonna be hard to look out that window once there's raindrops all over it. :D
Either way, not a terribly good design.
The windscreen is at a 45', so if you go fast enough, the rain will slide off.
This has more weather protection than the BMW C1, not sure why you guys are so grumpy.
Love this.
Amazing!
Now we have April 2019. Is it for sale or was it a prototype?
Looks like a Renault Twizy without the Renault
Hilarious! I love 💘 this review! I want one. I hate that its only experimental. His face was a classic he was like an excited kid! Awesome!
Genuis roof unshutter that was awesome amazing.
Super turbo mega!!! Классный аппарат!
That sliding roof is cool, but I don't think it will keep much rain off of you.
Attach side panals made from water proof material. Something like they use for tents.
So cool I can't even express it.
This is a great spec machine for commuting. People have to realise the sides are open for ease of entry, weight reduction and cross wind management. Covered e bikes like this one have night and day advantages over 2 wheel e bikes in bad weather because of the roof which will keep most of the rain off the rider and also because of the sheer comfort. Ive owned Quest and Rotovelio trikes (both with roofs). This bike is probably slower than my machines were. E assist motors can limit top speed potential but they make great sense for commuting where a sweat free ride to work is required. This bikes advantage over faster low slung velomobiles is it is higher and thus more visible plus its much easier to get in and out of. You get praise and crowds of viewers whenever you stop so thoughts of bad vibes from the public are not a reality.
Covered high visibility e assist bikes like this one for commuting will be a growth market especially as car free bike paths are on the increase. My old website is "Planet pride in the south pacific" if you are curious re my experience. Thanks
I don't see why this would be better than an electric bike? A Renault Tizzy would be a better option.
It looks like you can transport a beer crate on the back. So it wins in that regard against an e-bike ;)
It is a pedal powered Twizy.
Tony Edgecombe
If the bear is into consuming, you differently don't want to fall off.
Hmmm, kind of all the disadvantages of cycling (save the roof...a bit) without the major advantage (narrow, highly manoeuvrable and traffic navigable).
It's basically an ebike that can't cut through traffic, but still an interesting concept vehicle.
Well, if you could mount a bull bar, you could cut through traffic on a bike path at least (or pedestrians).
Ronald de Rooij I like the cut of your jib Sir!
I think the idea with these products is that everyone uses it, cars would dissapear and cities would get crowded with these eco solutions
Now is 2022, this thing is needed
Correct! Its a great idea to use instead of a car!! WE NEEED IT NOW. I would buy for 5000 Euro.
Apparently, a very easy ride n comfortable ride as well . Love to own one
The biggest issue with this type of vehicle is that it doesn't really fit into existing infrastructure; not particularly safe or societally acceptable on the road, but too big for the vast majority of bike lanes and paths, and definitely not pedestrian area acceptable. These will really only fit in in small communities, like the type of places that you currently have people going around in golf cart type vehicles.
It's actually not really any wider than the space that needs to be allocated for a conventional bicycle, though - the rider's arms (and panniers if present) stick out pretty far, and the space required for balancing increases width even more. This doesn't need to maneuver for balancing, and the spec sheet says it's 850 mm, which is narrower than my recumbent tricycle (at 864).
"...really only fit in in small......" HA HA HA!!! Try instead "...really only work in small...". and drop the comma.
and no place for groceries. kinda pointless then. also, how to prevent it being stolen? if someone can't afford a car and wants something cheaper they certainly can't afford to spend 5k on a glorified bike that could easily get stolen and with no place to put cargo. might as well take a bus if you're going to have transportation without cargo space.
I still want one, but you're totally right.
BlameItOnGreg legally speaking it is a bicycle...your opinion of its acceptability or where it can go is pointless...
