      Both Conchita and the Common Linnets (the 2nd) had their underdog stories in the weeks before. Both were and still are very popular, but on this evening Conchita won the hearts of the viewers and thus the public vote.
      We are not talking about the commercial success afterwards, because radio suitability is only one of the factors that the jury takes into account, while the audience is often convinced mainly by the staging.
      Furthermore, Austria and the Netherlands are both countries that have to fight for their votes, as they are among the countries that do not receive guaranteed points from neighbors or the diaspora every year.

      "Out of pocket" and still not switching up the song structure. I'm glad that switzerland won this year since they actually changed the song formula a tiny bit (feels crazy to type that when it should be the norm). Music is an art form yet the artists limit themself (in eurovision) to a small frame, scared to take even one small stroke of the brush outside the framework (because eurovision doesn't see music as an artform)

      @KattReen Před 23 hodinami

      It's how it works most years. The jurys are usually made out of musicians, composers, choreographers etc, professionals who understand the mechanics of what they're looking at, as there is in fact some objectivity in music.
      It's not so much that the jury is rigged in Sweden's favor, as it is that Sweden has just been on top of pop music for the past couple of decades, even outside of the ESC.
      Swedish producers and songwriters are all over popmusic internationally ever since the Max Martin-ification of it all.
      The reason Sweden sends generic pop songs, is because Sweden pretty much created the modern pop sound.
      Swedish song writers write for other countries too, so Sweden has beaten Sweden several times in this competition. In 2016 Swedes were involved in 11 out of 42 entries. There's no conspiracy. It's popular because people like it.
      And yes. There was a Swede on the songwriting team for the winning song this year as well.

      I can hardly believe that as young people are usually poor students who don't spend money on voting something like this, they just enjoy watching it and hyping about it on social media. From what I've heard, it's the 30 to 50-year-olds who are more invested in putting money on voting (but it can vary in different countries, this is just what I've seen and heard).

Not even a single one based on how people from each country voted. This caused a whole scandal there's no way you can't remember it.
