    Hey Shannon,
    I’ve been using circle hooks for 2 years now, changed from J’s. Only lost at the most 2 fish. Once you are hooked up never loose a fish. Snell knot, line entering through the front of the hook a must.
    Just got to learn to not have a spastic attack and jerk the rod when you get a bite. Just relax take a breath, mouthful of courage and wait for the rod to load up. It will happen,just be patient. Luv 10/0 BBK circles. Strong as. Regularly get more fishing in the boat than the boys using J’s. Hook the baits just at the top, it’s kinda against the grain of bait fishing but it has worked. I enjoy your vids, thanks. Tips n tricks are good knowledge. 🎣🎣

    Agree with all your recommendations. I seem to lose an awful lot of fish with circle hooks because it ends up impaling the bait leaving no chance whatsoever of hooking the fish- have tried different ways to try to avoid this risk, eg bridling the bait, none of which seem to work 100%

    Spot on Shazza! You want the hook to roll in not snag out! The snell is where it’s at, or in through the front for loop connection.

      Thanks mate. I still see friends putting circles on backwards and scratching their heads when they miss fish. I do tell them after a while why they are missing fish😂😂😂

    All hooks but especially circle hooks have to have the loop going on from the front, or the snelled trace coming out from the front. J hooks as well. Great tutorial 👌

    I lake fish for catfish so there is no current and the bait isn't moving. I have not noticed any difference in that situation in twenty years of circle hooks fishing I have never lost a fish just using a palomar knot with braid.
    I started using fifty pound or so mono lately that is tied up already smelled. The line goes through the eye straight through.

    Seems to be a trend here in the UK atm, using pulley rigs with circle hooks for general shore fishing. But rather than snelling the hook to the snood, tying the hook on using a perfection loop or a surgeon's knot, so the hook pivots freely, then the bait mounted on a hair made of 200lb braid

      Thanks you for the info mate I might have to give that way of fishing with circle hooks a go. I will let you know how it works here.👍

    Does this setup justwork with circle hooks or will a baitcaster hook do better with this setup also?

    Hey mate great video. Thanks. Always a Snell knot when using single circle hooks?

    • @Aussie-Fishing
      @Aussie-Fishing  Před 2 lety

      Yes mate, you seem to get better hook ups rigging them this way.

      You can put a loop through from the front as well. Just don't tie the hook on with a knot. But it's hard to beat a snell

      Yes mate absolutely, 2 hook snelled rigs work very well on Kingfish.

      Lvebaiting in New Zealand we use a single snelled black magic KLT 7/0 With a live kahawai, even a 2 kilo fish under a balloon with 80lb fluorocarbon trace. Sorry to jump in on this question 😅

    I fish for kings bonito using a float and a live yakka with 6 size circle hooks but never get the hook up, any tips on getting better hook ups?I tried that but didn’t really work

    • @Aussie-Fishing
      @Aussie-Fishing  Před 2 lety

      Try changing from circle hooks to octopus hooks. I bet your hook up rate will improve for that style of fishing. Good luck mate

      Also if you are using braid and a stiff .rod and you strike you can pull the bait right.out of its mouth. We catch a lot of kingfish to 30 kilos in New Zealand using a 7/0 circle hook. The black magic KLT 7/0 its deadly. Hope you don't mind me saying. But the danger with 80lb braid and 130 lb trace and a pe 8 rod is you have to let the fish swallow it
      Otherwise you miss them.
