    Great video! Dennis says you need a square u-bolt to remove the slack. It worked great for us. Safe travels.

      I agree. The hitch tightener that I was using on my old extension broke and I didn't have time to order a replacement. We actually hit the road the next day after getting this installed, so it was a rushed project.

    Just like yours the instructional videos from Etrailer are great! Congrats on the upgrade.......worried about your back the whole install. I have crippling spinal stenosis and scoliosis.......I was having sympathy pains for you! LOL!!!

    • @Stonyboot
      @Stonyboot  Před rokem

      Thank you. A big part of the problem is that I was in a huge rush to get the hitch installed, so I didn't take enough time to explain what I was doing. Also, I had to learn along the way. So, I figured I'd just use some of the clips from etrailer to explain the process for me.
      And yeah, my back wasn't feeling too good while doing this install. Things are better recently, but I have to keep working on it. I still have some disk left, but i suspect that it will be a major problem in another 10 years. So, I'll try to keep it as healthy as I can.
      I hope you can find some occasional relief, constant pain is enough to drive you crazy.

      @@Stonyboot Take care the best you can. I worked the docks early in life before going to the Sheriffs Training Academy at a "youthful" 40 years old :) At 65 I get relief from Hydro. & Morphine.......if I would know I would end up this way would I still do it? Yup....no regrets :) It's been a fun ride!
      You make excellent video's, I always look forward to the next one.

      @@Stonyboot Well...pulling the Tritoon down to Bull Shoals lake I had used ''secure chains'' from the 4ft draw bar to the bottom of the bumper on the Camper...well..it straightened out the eye hooks that i put in the camper bumper and then bent the bottom panel of the bumper after pulling apart some welds! I did not loose my sewer hose but did loose some small stuff. I honestly dont know how it did not pull that storage bumper clear off! So, off to the welding shop when we got home! I will need to do what you did to pull this barge again! Thanks again for your ''teaching'' video'' Looks like i need Em'!!

    Very informative video. I believe you said that you have an Anderson Weight distribution hitch (which I have also. The "hobby horse" syndrome you described is why I run the Anderson hitch, it is much better than every other hitch to reduce this issue.

    Have put easily 10k miles on my 36” super truss with trailers in the 5-7k range without WD over the past decade and it’s been flawless. Takes a little practice when backing a trailer because of the extra length totally throws off the pivot point. Torklift support and warranty support is stellar.

    • @Stonyboot
      @Stonyboot  Před rokem

      You said it right, I did my 1k mile test run and it was awesome. Never thought I'd get excited about a hitch extension, but it made the drive much less stressful. Their support and warranty are on another level!

    I have that on my 05 Dodge 3500 you don’t need the rear tie down for your camper so you only need the front tie downs and they have their own tie downs for their tow hitch so I have two rear tie downs I don’t need so if you want them let me know and Hewig sway bar set it is such a clean way to put it on way better looking than U bolt plate the Helwig sends you for their Bigwig sway bar .

    • @Stonyboot
      @Stonyboot  Před rokem

      I have removed all of my tiedown because I use the flatbed. But you’re right, they integrate into the SuperHitch which is a great feature.
      Also, I like the sway bar setup much more now, simpler and clean.
      I’m a happy camper. Next week I’ll have the 1000 mile test drive posted.

    Great video Scott! Mad props to you for taking that on by yourself. I did it a bit backwards of you. I put a 30 k superhitch on a '21 Ram HD D srw that replaced the factory hitch and then put a big wig sway bar on. I should mention I had a professional trailer manufacture/repair/ metal fabricator do the install and I merely helped just a little. 3 problems we unexpectedly ecountered. One on the hitch and two on the sway bar. For the hitch install we had to lift the bed to install the hitch, otherwise pretty straight forward but not an average Joe kinda job. On the install of the big wig sway bar the top of the drop links interfered with the spare tire being lowered when installed according to directions. Helwig said they can be installed to the outside of the bracket at an angle which allowed for the the spare to drop down. The 3rd problem encountered was the brackets on the engine side of the axle would not stay and would rotate on the axle. We wound up spot welding the brackets to the axle. You the man!

    Do you think it would be easier and better to just weld the hitch to the truck ?

    • @Stonyboot
      @Stonyboot  Před rokem

      I’m happier with bolt on, welding to these truck frames is a common cause of frame failure. I don’t really understand the metallurgy, but welding directly to the frame cause a change in the temper or strength of the steel, it creates weak spots that lead to failure. This system is very well thought out and can be removed if desired.

  • @Charlie12874
    @Charlie12874 Před rokem +2

    Compared to the instructional video it looks like the plates bolted to the frame with the curled lip on the bottom are installed on the wrong sides meaning the lip is supposed to curl inward and not out toward the wheels. Great Video as always, safe travels.

      @Stonyboot  Před rokem +1

      The both indicate that the L angle should face outwards. I just double checked and it’s the same in both videos.
      Had they been installed wrong, the center section wouldn’t fit.
      Thanks for watching:)

    • @Stonyboot
      @Stonyboot  Před rokem

      I emailed them my proposed plan, talked to them on the phone, they agreed. It's a pretty common thing on CZcams, it doesn't really make any money for me, but it does help offset my costs. Had they said no, I would have purchased it anyway, it's an amazing product!

  • @lawrence7065
    @lawrence7065 Před rokem +1

    Nice job, But I think I would have threaded the side bolts the other way so the threads were not exposed. If possible that is. Also you might want to put a heat shield around exhaust where it is close to sway bar bushing.

      I keep an eye on it, I've never seen any signs of it. Also, the weigth distribution keeps the weight neutral. So the leverage on the frame is minimal.
