Hearing Warhammer lore as someone who knows only the very basics is such a fever dream. It’ll be something like “grand duke-marshal Octamus Priminius battled dread-lord Malius Baddus in hand to hand combat for three weeks. Also 3 million unnamed soldiers died on a battlefield akin to WW1 but somehow worse, they’re sacrifice had literally no effect”.

Can't wait 20 years from now when they reboot all of the Horus Heresy saying that all the books where written from Alpharius's perspective.

3 years since this moment and they've only just gotten to the dual between horus and sanguinius, they REALLY do drag these books out

The Sacrifice of the Unnamed Guardsman is way more powerful in the original text.
Horus was manipulating the Emperor when he saw the guy, kept pulling on the Emperor’s strings with lines about how he was doing what he was doing for Humanity. He had broken the Emperor completely in body and almost entirely in spirit when the random guy reached the bridge, and Horus tried to convert him. He laid out his whole argument for humanity’s need for warrior-rulers like him and all the dark powers the Emperor had denied them. The guardsman heard all this, internalized it, and then stabbed Horus in the throat.
The human was destroyed, instantly. Like flicking a fly.
And the Emperor killed his murderer.

Just got done listening to Know No Fear where they talk about Ollanius Persson. They way it's pronounced in the audiobook I thought the name was Allanius.. so A. Persson. Very on the nose, even for GW.

I don't mind Perpetuals in the lore. It's fun imagining the Emperor being such a massive piece of upjumped shit that he alienated almost all of his fellow immortal humans.

I’m thinking back on the number of mortal humans that matter in the Heresy, and while it’s more than Ben describes, it’s less than we’d like:
    Marshal Hektor Varvarus
    Scribe-Adept Katanoh Tallery
    Pilot Banu Rassuah
    Iterator Kyril Sindermann
    Remembrancer Euphrati Keeler
    Imagist Mersadie Oliton
    Poet Ignace Karkasy
    Shipmaster Mathanual August
    Shipmaster Lotara Sarrin
    Shipmaster Boas Comnenus
    Shipmaster Baryk Carya
    General Eugan Temba
    Flight Officer Racel Vought
    Vox Officer Tirin Maas
    Agent Haln
    Assassin Eristrede Kell
    Sister of Silence Amendera Kendel
    Colonel Sparzi
    Trooper Bale Rane
    Chamberlain Principal Tarasha Euten
    And many more, I’m sure

That's amazing that Ben then used this story in a Lorehammer of Yourhammer and Tom didn't immediately remember this

Was a good ending for the character all things considered. Although, tbh I don't mind Oll' Persson. He and the Emperor were old friends, possibly the only one the Emperor ever had and so his death is bound to make more sense, for an emotional impact on the Emperor that is, than some random guardsman. Hell, the Big E barely cared for his own sons, I doubt he'd care for an average joe.

@@willl676that’s kind of what I’ve been thinking. The Emperor literally sacrificed 1000 psykers for three hours in the webway, why would he care about some random guy

This is more, explain the siege of terra than anything else ...
    Less an explanation...more a summary
Ill summarize Avengers civil war .....The avengers all work to save humanity, this still creates damage, pain and judgement in the world as well as draws another larger enemy to it.
Their actions lead to a drive to police the good guys but some of them dislike the ideal..the two groups battle.
There you go..no need for the movie or the comics.
