I love this show, and how every episode is named after a Bowie song. It keeps the strangeness of the movie and slips in little call backs to the original. Chewitel is great and Bill Nighy is perfect for the part of Newton, since we can't have David. Also the female lead and her series family are excellent. Love it!

Every episode holds some deeper meaning. The acting is excellent. The direction is cinematic. The storytelling is beautiful and poignant all around. Just a masterclass in filmmaking. I hope Naomie and Chiwetel both get Emmy nominations for this amazing series

This series is a gem. The acting was really awesome, Chiwetel Ejiofor is an awesome actor and so are Naomie Harris and the actors that plays her daughter and grandfather. I also loved how every episode has some deeper meaning to it, the way the writers explore concepts like humanity and its behavior towards anything foreign to it, seeing threats in what we don't know is a reflection of who we are; I love how the show explored love, human connections and feelings, improvising, music, rhythm and history, the very things that make us human. I also found the depiction extramarital feelings very realistic. It happens even to the best of us, you can either fight it or give in, but you surely can't avoid finding yourself in that type of situation, that's life.

I loved the movie and watched it 5 nights running at the cinema in '76. Enjoyed this show too and tears almost came when Mary lou came in to it.
I highly recommend the series "The Man who fell to earth." The acting are great, stars leading roles with black actors which resonate with me a bit more as a black man, it's got a positive representation on faith and love as this alien learns what it means to be human, and it has a strong message about the value of family. They somehow show the impact of how a a father's and mother's love can effect their children. The entire series (10 episodes) fully paints it. Great series. Wholesome. I feel positive representation without ever feeling like any groups were downplayed to lift another.

Okay, there's a lot to unpack here. I went through a short phase of being obsessed with The Man who fell to Earth in my late teens, around 1999 or so. And sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who read the original novel by Walter Tevis. The Trailer does look intriguing but if they take anything from the novel at all, the planet was known as Anthea (probably actually Mars) and since it was further from the sun it was dimmer and colder. Antheans don't even have sweat glands.
That's why Thomas Jerome Newton (Bowie) was so fragile in the Sothern heat and why he wore transition sunglasses almost all the time in the 1976 movie version. It is also why the character was described as being so pale.
I like the idea of Bill Nighy as Newton but Newton was not aging. Bowie played him at twenty-nine and the character (in the novel) didn't look more than forty.
I don't know. I just have mixed feelings about this. Seeing trailers for the Interview with the vampire TV series from AMC and now The Man who fell To Earth, part of me is going "Where were you when I was a teenager?" while another more cynical part is going "This doesn't really feel like the book."
It is hard with something so loved. I am the same with The Sandman and am similarly nervous. I find with tv and film adaptations it's best to let go of the original book and to enjoy the form/tv on its own merits as a new story. Less disappointment that way...
This will be a Trash Fire. Just wait and see. More about 'Inclusion' and Representation than remaining faithful to the source material. The Bowie version can NEVER be topped. It was already proven once. It will be proven again.

I mean the whole meaning of the Sandman universe is that they can be anyone so the casting doesn't really matters but the rest is 100% comic accurate. And to be fair adaptation doesn't mean copy paste, it means "based on". I don't want the same thing what I've read in books or in comics.
There's no trailer for the Interview with the Vampire yet that was just a second long clip basically. And this show looks pretty great. The casting is f-ing great and if the writing is good it's gonna be a great show.

Enjoyed this series very much , excellent acting with good chemistry between all. Would reccomend to those who like interesting stories and characters against a sci-fi background.

I just recently had a discussion with my father how so many films and shows which we all loved often had main characters 50-50 and all was great... 70s, 80s, 90s... Even in post-Soviet Union to which some of the culture was new. And then in the 2000s something went agenda weird. "Get Out" kind of way.

I’m gonna take a wild guess that it was based in a fictional world where there was apparently no one on Earth but white people? Probably not 1 person of color in the movie? From a guy I saw in the comments of this trailer I picked up on that. He was upset that this version had black characters in it (only 4 shown in trailer). That was waaay too many for him and apparently made it unwatchable.

Thomas Jerome Newton wasn’t supposed to age. Even though Bill Nighy is a superb actor, I still think they should have casted Eddie Redmayne instead. Or even Bill Skaarsgard. I love the original because of David Bowie.

Hey Showtime, i know that you were originally suppose to have Halo the series on their platform instead of The Man who fell to earth which was suppose to be on Paramount plus. basically both Showtime & Paramount Plus made a trade. But since "Showtime Networks" actually produced Halo the series, i was wondering is there still a chance that Halo can still be on "Showtime" when season 1 is done on paramount plus, so showtime subscribers can watch the fırst season.

GREAT SHOW. Has everything needed to make great entertainment.....it builds up to a phenomenal experience that draws you in, like its actual reality. I almost feel like it actually happened & were all awaiting for the release of Fusion still to come. That is storytelling at its finest, you believe it even tho you know its fiction.

Imagine how Bowie’s film could have been with today’s technology.
But today’s technology would not have been, without Bowie’s patents to lay the foundation in the first place.
1976 film is more ephemeral, poetic in a way, the sequel seems more action centered, what Newton was thinking amd dreaming about in 1984 now they are both putting into action, beautifully connected film and the sequel.
I’m all for suspension of reality, especially in sci-fi, but wasn’t there a plot point that Newton doesn’t age like humans? He wouldn’t resemble a man of Nighy’s age at this point. That’s one of the reasons Michael C Hall played Newton in Bowie’s ‘Lazarus’ stage show too. That was also set many years later.

The Man Who Fell To Earth travelled through space to help humanity survive its own extinction and the first episode started out good with a surprice actor in Bill Nighy. I hope this show continue like it have started when it is great.👍

The story is just 'an alien visitor bringing danger and promise' there's no reason not to remake it again and again. Starman, The Day the Earth Stood Still, the original Bowie version; they all comment on the anxieties of their various times.

@Zed The Day the Earth stood still annoyed me. They had nano weaponsm they could strategically disassemble human one by one, yet for someone it was set to destroy everything.
Most people seem to have forgotten that The Man who Fell to Earth has already been remade once, in 1987 as a TV pilot for a never-produced series. That also featured a couple of Star Trek actors: Wil Wheaton and Robert Picardo (ironically playing a similar character to the one that his Voyager co-star Kate Mulgrew plays here). It was pretty good, although less abstract and visionary than the David Bowie movie.

I agree. That's exactly what it is about love which must be restored on Earth to save it, the metaphor in the 1976 film and the sequel is obvious, its about restoring love and giving power to people, the last episode explains is so well.
