      @@edifier107Winning the peace does not mean make peace with the enemy, it's how you manage to survive or get back on your feet after the war, it's what happened after or a matter of did you get what you want in the first place or fail. US won the war, Vietnam still going.

    • @edifier107
      @edifier107 Před 2 měsíci

      @@machinelearning7378Can there really be peace if you are under foreign occupation? Or will it just be oppression / subjugation after the war? There is a saying in many cultures "give me death, or give me liberty" or in Indonesian "merdeka atau mati". Freedom is universal for any people. Sometimes, you have to fight for peace.

    Pak Gita discusses three paradoxes: the internet's failure to democratize ideas despite equalizing information, the challenge of achieving sustainability amidst developmental priorities, and the unintended consequences of artificial intelligence advancement. He advocates for embracing a multipolar world order as a solution to these challenges, shifting away from a unipolar dominance. Emphasizing the importance of prioritizing peace over conflict, the speaker suggests that the US and other nations must adapt to this new reality to ensure stability and economic prosperity. They contrast China's focus on homogeneity and economic dominance with the challenges faced by other nations. Additionally, Pak Gita encourages Southeast Asian countries to learn from both China and India in terms of economic strategies and effective storytelling to enhance their global influence.

    Dear Pak Gita,

    One problem with Yuan not popular within SWIFT system, there is a big flaw in there. China has its own system called CIPS, and that is where Yuan active the most. So how can SWIFT reflected the true popularity of Yuan if Yuan is not in it? It is like saying Manchester United is a weak team because it never won Spanish League.

    Great talk with many insights, thank you! For those who're curious about India's stand in the Russia-Ukraine war, I'd like to offer my two cents as an Indian. 🇮🇳
    1. Historical ties: After the partition of India and subsequent creation of Pakistan in 1947, most of the West including US and UK backed Pakistan, financially and militarily. India during this time heavily relied on the USSR. In fact, during the 1971 war between India and Pakistan which led to the formation of Bangladesh, it was the Russians who stopped India from being attacked by the US and western forces. India's good relationship with the US is pretty recent. India owes a lot to Russia and would not sabotage this historic relationship.
    2. Economic reasons: The pandemic and the Delta wave hit us hard. With such a huge population to cater to, it would have been devastating for the Indian economy to deal with inflation. Diversifying oil sources takes time. If all the countries pivot to the same new sources, just imagine how expensive oil could get. It would be horrific for a developing economy like India that relies heavily on oil. In some ways, India has helped globally balance the price of oil and inflation.
    3. Geopolitical reasons: Prof. Gita might rely on Indonesia's ties with China for his assessment. But countries that share a border dispute with China have a different story to tell. India, Bhutan, the Philippines...China is a real military threat. And with China and Russia getting close, India right now counter balances their relationship. Severing ties would mean having to deal with China, Pakistan and Russia in the neighbourhood.
    The Indian Govt. did condone the war and encourage dialogue. But it will always put the interests of its people first. Most Indians are happy with India's strategy. It's always Nation first in geopolitics.

    Thank you Pak Gita for sharing your thoughts and experience in global political economy discourse. Undeniably, we have seen many failures happened regarding development in many parts of the world and there are so little have done to get things back on track, especially towards sustainability and peace making especially in warring states. As you said, economy is obvious, no matter how polarised the global politics are. It gives a sense that we are living in a very brutal yet promising world as long as we embrace multipolarity. Thanks Pak Gita for the talk. It was really enlightening.

    I disagree Mr. Gita. There's plenty of literature in academia why a multipolar world increases the risk of great power war significantly. There is a relative long peace between major powers since WW2 due to US primacy. Prosperity and stability including freedom of navigation at sea has been underpinned by US San Francisco system of alliances that have deterred revisionist actors from launching more wars and aggression. There are exceptions such as the current Russia-Ukraine war, but if Ukraine was in NATO, Russia would not have invaded in the first place. And this is also what's preventing China from invading Taiwan now. The world might have listened to you if you said this before Covid. US alliances have been solidified (from NATO, AUKUS, the Quad, etc) and will continue to grow stronger to maintain unipolarity. Because the alternative is a despotic world run by Russia, China, North Korea and Iran.

      so you agree the world being monopolized by the US and the rest of the world has to bow what the US want ? Such a weird opinion. With multipolar it makes US to think twice to invade other country. US will not be dare to invade Iraq, Suriah, Libya if China and Russia has an even military capabilities
