The most spectacular air base I have come across!! stunning, we spent the Day here and watched the F-18s head up the Mountains and practice for Axalp '21 Air Force displays.
With us heading up the mountains tomorrow for Axalp '21 Air Force displays let hope for some good weather. - Věda a technologie
Drove from Zurich to Interlaken four years ago (part of a three-week wonderful road trip through Switzerland and France -- made sure the car had a stick shift, which I love and is now almost completely forgotten in the U.S. -- wimps!). Loved the food, scenery, people, the entire experience. Didn't see any jets flying the day when we drove past the lovely airbase. As a Navy retired vet, I have always enjoyed seeing the FA-18 doing its thing, and you can see how the pilots love those nice runways. That Swiss cross on those vertical stabilizers is a lovely sight! Wayyy back in 1987, my wife and I were on our first Europe road trip and started off in Switzerland. I was so surprised to pull into a country gas station and have a jeep with a recoilless rifle and crew pull into the station to refuel. It was October and their army reservists were seemingly everywhere. We drove into a nearby village, and it seemed we were on a movie set: military vehicles at all the crossroads, soldiers marching through the town, and into the hills. Later, we stopped at a small town to have cakes and coffee at a local inn before taking a car train in Furka (had to do that!). While enjoying our snacks, a large military convoy came rumbling through.
A nice story and great memories I love Switzerland but I'm now at Nellis air base USA and I love to see how different all these countries are 👌
I did parts of my military service at this Air Force Base. Many good memories. 👍🏼
Such a beautiful country.
Only in Switzerland can you have an Air Force Base like that
Okay, when the Crossing Rails dropped I honestly thought a Train was going to pass, 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I thought a bunch of of cows with bells are walking through.....😀😀
@@hishamosman4341 my thoughts😅😅
So did I.
It did!
It's Switzerland...You see stuff like that all the time simply because Swiss pilots constantly train to operate out of highways and even some roads hidden in the forests in case of an invasion...Their country is small and landlocked so they don't have a choice..That said I also expected to see cows pass by..
In 1968 I was on a solo bicycle trip in Europe. Perfect weather. Headed from Lucerne to Interlaken (and then up to Grindlewald-real mountians at last!). Cycling past the lake I saw these fighters romping among the mountain peaks and thought they must be the happiest pilots in the world. Then they descended and started firing on a barge on on the far side of the lake! Water splashing all around the targets. Unforgettable. I have since learned to fly and have plenty of hours in small plane, but I don't believe I've ever had such fun as those guys were having.
Here comes the train, OH SNAP it’s a jet aircraft no it’s 2!
From 3:20 to 4:20 one of the most visually stunning landings I have seen.
I was surprised to read that little Switzerland has 30 F18 aircraft. And now they want to upgrade the fleet and buy 34 F-35
In the past (70s/80s), the swiss air force operated over 650 fighter jets simultaneously.

@@danielaengel3675 Didn’t the Swiss use a lot of F-5s way back then?

.
@@danielaengel3675 Yeah that’s a lot of F-5s, good for economics but could never really figure out why they’d rely on such a small aircraft, that said I never really read up much on what F-5s could carry or roles they were for etc.

Anytime there is a control tower with a waterfall behind it, you're in the right place 🇨🇭🇨🇭
Happy people! Living in such a wonderful country!💪💪👍👍
love the nice and gentle "Air Force" landings with the Hornets, rather than the typical carrier or carrier practice landings. That looks like a day well spent.
Do you know if these FA18s have full-strength landing gears?
Beautiful landscapes and great photography of planes in takeoff and landing,
Thanks for visiting
Ladies and gentlemen the Swiss Air Force
I was there on holiday 50 years ago and I loved to see, at that time, the Haviland planes. It was beautiful to see them diving from the montains to the landing strip.
Awesome 😎War Fighter Jet also beautiful Air Base and Beautiful 😻 Country 👍😀
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice country ... beautiful planes ... god bless switzerland ....
You're sure it's a Swiss airport when you see cows grazing next to the airstrip
Nice clean place...all looks very well organised...
Love the railway barrier crossing system...even down to the people waving at the pilots..
Supercool for me..
Great video..thanks.👍

Thanks for watching
"All looks very organized"? Of course, it's Suisse! 😁
Love the gorgeous gentle landings that start around the 4:00 mark.
The Swiss Air Force pilots are some of the best.
Wow what a beautiful area for an military airbase with spectacular mountain scenery I never knew existed absolutely stunning...
Agreed.....
Stunning scenery! The F-18's are cool too.
We have seen these planes flying in this valley from Ballenberg Open Air Museum. The noise fills the valley
super images merci salutations claude
What a place!
Stunning 😍
Now, you wouldn't mind having to wait at rail crossing lights!!!...especially when having to sit and watch F18 fighter jets crossing the road!!👍🤣! Much more interesting than trains!!!!!Many thanks Elwyn for sharing your video! Cracking 👌 job as always mate 👍! Cheers 🍻 Paul
Spectacular, stunning, and bad to the bone! I love seeing whiz past those buildings during takeoff.
My kind of road crossing ✈️✈️👌
lets hope we get to see it again this year 😊
Mind blowing scenery for both pilots and spectators
That is so cool! 👍
This must be a phantastic Sound between the Mountains...Great! Thank You for the Video. 👍🙂
Many thanks!
It's indeed a bit more intense than on open ground. Love it!
i life since 16years here now , sometime a bit loud :) grettings from just 500m from the Airfield
Never gets old
Take a good look at the wingtip "bird" pointing downwards, illustrating the washout on the wing(s). Simply awesome!
Wow excellent place in the Alps. Didn't Mr. Bond motor around there in the Austin martin. Thank you Elywn.
He was on the Grimsel pass nearby. But the airfield with the gold factory was in Buochs (the older buildings of the Pilatus factory).
Scary flying thru those mountains at night.
😁outstanding!!👊👍!!
Thank you! Cheers!
What a fabulous setting and scenery. Some very nice first class footage and plenty of 'greaser' landings!
Superb! I love the road crossing for the planes!! 😯
What a beautiful location
wow!@! pretty darn scary taking off at night with all those mountains so close...
Did anyone else see the cow walking along the runway at 5:30...? Only in Switzerland 🇨🇭!
Awesome video, thanks for sharing mate
Glad you enjoyed it
The hills are aliiiiive, with the sound of freeeeedoooooommmm……………
Julie Andrews pirouettes down the runway in flight gear……..
Wow, the scenery around there is beautiful. Might have to take a trip there.
Well, I know where I want my summer vacation house to be.
That was very enjoyable to watch your right absolutely stunning scenery another great video as usual 👍
Thank you so much 😀
Switzerland 💪
Thank you
You're welcome
Nice stuff. Love those F-18s.
Hell yeam man i would love to get there one day to film
My wife is from Switzerland. I am used to seeing cows going across this is certainly different. LOL
Fantastic Video. I was just 2x times in Meiringen AFB Amazing.!! Wow this Sun-Halo at the Top of the Mountain looks Unbelievable.!!
Thanks a lot!
EVEN for a moment I had the idea that the train was passing, but what did the blocking of the road with beams have to do with F-18 😁😁😁😁
Used to happen at Turnhouse, now Edinburgh Airport, the through road would close with traffic lights to allow a plane to land. This happened until the late 1960s.
I was surprised to see this small air base on my way to Interlaken, it's a beautiful drive. Great video as always, Elwyn!
Did you see how taxi ways go into mountain.
Many thanks!
Awesome 👍✌️
Thanks ✌️
Superb footage and stills again Elwyn, what an absolutely stunning place and I too love the level crossing for the plane's, couldn't see that working here in the UK 🤣😂 👍👌✈️😁
ATB Andy
💛💙 love the legacy Hornets - those intakes are super neat !
Same here. I can't stand the intakes on the Super Hornet. I was bummed to see the Blues switch.
Oh well, time waits for no one.
I't just like: Hey guys look my Train!
That is sharp. Very very nice.
Thanks 👍
Stunning scenery indeed.
Oh, by the way - they do it at night time as well.
Oh, wow!! LOL! How amazing was that?!? Never expected to see F-18s to cross your path when the rails dropped! Love this video.
Thank you very much!
Lovely film work elwyn.beautiful scenery aswell
Glad you enjoyed it
Well Done!
My family live in Switzerland so I get to see them and have visited their air museum. I had a similar experience to this in Ludlow when the traffic is stopped for a horse race to pass over the road. The matting they use is very slippery for cars.
Marvellous and beautiful takeoff and landing 😁😎👍
Glad you enjoyed it
@@ElwynR ahh yes definitely and it is pretty cool 😎
Just imagine living in a country where people are bought up with enough respect and social responsibility to not disrupt the crossing at this airfield.
I can't see that working in many western countries where the the responsibility of the individual has been franchised to the state.
Exactly! Evidently the Swiss have allowed the process of Natural Selection to cull the herd of irresponsible humans. It certainly wouldn't work stateside in the 'Land of Idiot Behaviors'....it's just sad to witness the celebration of idiocy.
Thanks for the great photography!
As always buddy, stunning work. I love the landing on motorways (Sweden?) and road crossing (Switzerland) type stuff in Europe, makes for interesting research and viewing. Thanks for posting👍😊😊
I was honestly waiting for a train to cross 🤣🤣🤣 Imagine seeing this in the states.
Thanku for always making my day so special with your phenomenal vidoes this was absolutely amazing love everything about this ..Incredible filming you are amazing much love and God bless always x

Very friendly air base staff. Go use their canteen and then up 3 flights of stairs onto the roof for the best views and photography. Its open to the public so enjoy!

Here in the USA, they would never have any type of crossing like that where you are so close to the aircraft.
공군비행장이 완전히 휴양지가 따로 없네... ^ ^ 경치가 끝내준다.. ^ ^
On a trip to Switzerland in 2017, we went to Brienz, on an overcast spring day. Very low cloud over the lake. Heard (loudly) the F-18s doing go-rounds, the crackle was amazing. Never once saw an aircraft though! Used to see FA-18 and Super Hornets here in Australia quite a lot when I lived in Darwin, and the noise now I think is actually overtaken by the new F-35s!
Thanks Erwin amazing😚
That’s honestly the best thing ever. Like a train crossing, but for jets. 🤣🤣🤣
Once again, great footage Elwyn. 🤙🤙
I also want to pre congratulate you on 400k. Glad to see you reach such a crazy milestone. I’ve been subbed for years now, so I’ve got to see it grow quite a bit. Keep up the great work. You’ve earned it. 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
big thank you 👍 I'm just filming what I enjoy doing! so big thanks for you for watching 👏
Nah, it's a crossing for cars !
Those babies Rock
Great shots and Videos. I just spottet myself guarding the Barriers at the start of the Video ^^
Cool 👌 stunning location
Adevărați piloți care știu ce fac !!! Jos pălăria !!!
OK now I've seen it all. Damn I'm late because I got caught at an F18 road crossing this morning. Never fails I'm in a rush and I get caught in one.
Splendide j'adore le bruit 🙏🏽❤️🇨🇭💋😘
Usually, the person in the turbo Porter is the coolest cat at the strip, but Hornets kinda stole his thunder with their own. Heck of a place for your car to break down during a scamble.
WOW, amazing video as always. THANK YOU!!!!!
Thank you too!
The waterfall is absolutely spectacular ! I wish you would have stayed focused on it for a minute or two more. The video is really excellent regardless of my comment.
I'm back there later this year! so will have another go 👍
@@ElwynR : I'll certainly be watching out for it; thanks for the heads up on it !
I think that is the Reichenbach Falls, where Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriarty had their struggle.
@@DrivermanO It is the Oltschibach Fall. The Reichenbach Falls are about 6 km up the valley near Meiringen, where Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriarty had their struggle, that's right.
@@Des-Alpes Thank you. Visited there 55 years ago, so memory a bit dodgy!
