Maybe the map towers you almost inevitably have to activate end up interfering with the existing communications infrastructure, severely delaying or even outright preventing Emergency Service response to those districts during whatever crisis is ongoing? The good ending might only be achieved by doing something like looking up the relevant laws and reporting the person sending you on the mission to the appropriate agency, or perhaps deliberately failing every invasion repelling mission, thereby getting your somewhat subtly extremely corrupt government overthrown by a foreign government that is at least marginally less corrupt and has legitimate grievances against your own.

      @@Kamfrenchie Here's what I know: their elections are always rigged, even though Lukashenko (or however you spell it) always wins them due to popularity in the countryside. But the rigged numbers look better.
      The rigging is at least partially done by fake votes for Lukashenko dropped in the voting boxes in the weeks leading up to the final election day, that are, after the voting is over, ascribed to the names of registered voters who didn't vote. This year they had already announced that about 40% of people had voted early for Lukashenko, but as it turns out, people are not only starting to vote against him, but those who usually don't vote are getting angry because they've realized that their votes are used in their absence. So more people are voting this year and more people are voting against Lukashenko, so with their early announcement in mind, the numbers might end up exceeding 100% of available votes.
      So he has to stop people from voting, so he's been intentionally creating delays on election day at election booths; many countries (including mine; Sweden) have had embassies with voting lines moving at a snail's pace, finally closing in the face of many, many registered voters who would've voted against Lukashenko.
      Then mass arrests of protesters and opposition started, and his main opposition party leader has fled the country.
      This is just off the top of my head from what I've read recently so I might get a detail wrong here and there but that's about it.

Having a breeze blow through to show you which way to go was a clever step up from the usual floating arrow or waypoint marker. It seems like they wanted to have a morality system ( glad they didn't, gettin tired of that shit), but stopped at the last minute. They hint at there being direct consequences for your actions through out the entire game. In the end even tho it's another collect-a-thon, i was still so in love with the aesthetic and atmosphere that the collectables were actually enjoyable. It didn't feel like chore to do them, in fact i felt compelled to complete them. I've never had graphics and style be the major factor in my enjoyment of a game before. And the photo mode was a Fantastic addition. It's made the enjoyment of the visual last so much longer. Even tho i was bured out on open world games almost entirely. This one completely captured me. Not perfect, but close enough

    • @ctographerm3285

      It sorta actually has a morality system, but the effect is largely cosmetic. What gets weighed is how much 'dishonorable' kills you make VS the 'honorable' ones. Doing more of the former makes the skies often more gloomy and stormy, while the latter results in sunny and clear weather.
      ...though what counts as 'dishonorable' is kinda unclear. Just prompted stealth kills? How about stealth arrow heads shots? What about Mongols you kill with NInja tools or bombs?
      Also, the weather effect is mostly annoying, because a NInja run feels like you're in the perpetually gloomy UK rather than Japan. And while you can change that with your hand-dandy magical flute of weather control, it felt like you had to do it ever 10-15 minutes if you prefer clear weather.

    • @BushidoMauve
      @BushidoMauve Před 3 lety

      @@ctographerm3285 the weather thing kinda bothered me at first. But because you can clear the weather by using the flute and control it in the photo mode. I kinda got used to it. Didn't bother me as much. And as for what counts as a stealth kill i don't know either. Cause i got tons of bow kills in the beginning but the very first time i stealthed with the knife. The game shamed me. Could be that was the last kill needed to trigger the cut scene but i can't even tell.

    This is what they teach in school as "padding". When I was going for my associates in game design, they legit drilled into us that the play should not go any more than 3 seconds without something to do or else they'll get bored. Hallway longer than 3 seconds? They need to jump, or crouch or collect something or be told something. It's this mindset I feel that has caused this level of cancer.

      @LordMacKarl "With bigger and more expansive worlds, the developer faces unique challenges that stem from keeping the player engaged. While it is true that some gamers would be content in "enjoying the atmosphere," most players would get quickly bored because achieving immersion is a mindset, not a destination."
      "Because of how competitive the market is and the player-base has become, most players are aware that they are playing a game; therefore if you do not provide distraction from that as a developer, then you have failed as a developer."
      These were two statements that were copy-pasted to us often. It seems that developers have come to the consensus that players play games to play games and that's it. It's just a lot of convolution in my opinion. When it came to the "Psychology of Play", there were tons of confliction. It pretty much boils down to: "You can't please everyone, so don't try to. Instead please as many as you can at once."

    Wish I was there for the post stream for this one since I genuinely would want this question answered.
    Given that this is SuckerPunch we are talking about, who made inFamous and that Yahzee very clearly said that any moral choice was wank since it does little but force you to make you play the game twice to see all of the content. If Ghost of T HAD a system that genuinely caused your choice of tactics to affect the story, would that not be the same situation?

    • @Stad122
      @Stad122 Před 3 lety +5

      I think that's a bit different. Infamous' moral choice thing was arbitrary, and didn't affect the gameplay, just the story. Ghost of tsushima would actually have an interesting choice thing, where the branching narrative would have two distinct gameplay styles that it could build on.

      I feel this is obvious, but the game is called GHOST of Tsushima. You have a legend in the menu that talks about your rise as a ghost. They give you ghost mechanics to use on top of samurai swordplay to give you creative ways to engage with the Mongols. The whole point of the game is to basically play a soldier that has to get dirty to win a war. To not use the mechanics is missing half the point of the game and the plot is tied to it too. You have to approach the game with a balanced approach or it just doesn't feel right. The only choice you have is the end but it makes complete sense when you actually go through the whole game in that way. It creates a conflict of ones ideals that the entire game leads to that moment.
      It's fundamentally a lose-lose situation for Jin despite his efforts winning the war. It's a matter than of honoring the old way one last time and now be a monster to everyone else or just breaking the cycle and having that close family member track you down for the rest of your life. It's not fair for Yahtzee to trash that part when there's clearly a theme about war and how it changes a person to do things they might hate but know it's necessary.

    • @TheDakattack3000
      @TheDakattack3000 Před 3 lety +1

      Think of it like this: you play Spider man games because you want to BE Spider Man. Much like Batman and other games, it's a focus on a specific idea for character. If Batman just got into fist fights and never stealth any area, is that really Batman? Same goes for Spiderman. Same goes for Bayonetta, God of War and Devil May Cry. Those games encourage you to mix and match up with weapons and the mechanics to make it balanced while expressing the player and character at the same time.
      I think people are misled by ghost of tsushima because people are so use to open world games that mechanics and gameplay just get swept away. A shame because I think ghost is a genuinely good if flawed game.

      Am I the only one who doesn't like branching storylines in story-based games? The characters are supposed to make the choices for us, not the other way around. That's a big part of what makes a story engaging, because we're getting to know the characters. That kill/spare option at the end totally drew me out of the experience because I had to pause and look up which choice results in the "good ending" instead of enjoying and wondering what Jin was going to do.
