And so, just like every other living being will eventually do, Dark Souls has evolved into crab.
Forget the inevitability of the Age of Dark, carcinization is the true inescapable fate.
Ah yes
Time for Crab.
Rolling the carapace under the stomach helps with rolling under the big mother of sword trying to one-hit ko you for the 250th time. I guess...
@@FanOfMostEverything is this the Age of the Deep that Aldrich saw?
Who knew Dark Souls was a decapod. I guess Hollow Knight could have tipped us off
I like the idea of things worth more time getting promoted from "Yahtzee tries" to a "fully ramblomatic"
A game just played to cross off a list that leaves an actual impression
It’s like promotion in the English Football League.
@@rocknorris9508 exactly, I think it really adds to "Yahtzee Tries" tbh
Time was it was the other way around, when back on _that other channel_ we had Post-ZP episodes as extensions of the most recent ZP to come out.
@gameman250 although maybe playing a game you've been playing a lot going in for a review isn't the best thing to do, especially if it's one you have a struggle with?
That's a big vote of confidence in Gianni Matragrano's talent at screaming in rage. Hopefully his bollocks are healing well.
I think he was the isopod actually, doing comparatively little screaming as much as chewing the scenery as an old-timey robber baron capitalist.
Some might say that Gianni is this generation's Nolan North or Steve Blum, or at least the indie equivalent, since it's easy to find Gianni's voice in the indie sphere. It helps that Gianni tends to knock it out of the park with his performances, like with Gabriel in Ultrakill.
@@Archflip He had a couple of roles.
Huh. So by the word of Yahtzee Gianni screams in pain when thrown coins at? We'll that's an accidental Ultrakill reference found.
Not even the first time people have thrown coins at his or his characters' balls.
"An ambitious crab and a cowardly crab make an equally tasty bisque" legitimately sounds like something I'd see in a fortune cookie
Too well-written. Have you had a fortune cookie in the last... decade? They're no longer fortunes and just poorly worded affirmations at this point.
@@JD2jr. speak for yourself, the ones at my local chinese place are basically just shitty jokes now.
Gives me the same energy as “every corpse on Mt. Everest was once a highly motivated and ambitious person”
@@JD2jr.
Very much depends on the brand of fortune cookies. Some do still have fortunes, though those brands seem to be the minority.
I assure you Yahtzee, Gianni Matragrano is a man of many voices. Especially the angry ones.
Another Crab’s Treasure 2: Durandal
Yahtzee/Civvie 11 Crossover when? 😅
Wait, the Spyro I like Cigarettes Yum guy was part of the cast?
Wait Gianni Matragrano is in this game???
He's that angry lobster.
The VA for that first boss, Gianni Matrigrano, also voices Gabirel from Ultrakill. A boss you can beat, coincidentally, by flicking coins at his bollocks.
oh if the VA was gianni that explains how he sounded so furious. dude goes whole hog on his performances lmfao
Pretty sure Gianni also voices Roland actually.
@@glassphoenix9095 he's a lobster, don't get swines and crustaceans mixed up
SPOILER:
I think the end message is more, "Things are fucked, so you have to get involved." Kril finally gets his shell back, then he gives it away. I took that to show that he's not just going to hide anymore, he's going to get out there and try to fix things.
That's good! From the way Yahtz described it, I was like - Oh, that's kinda funny and fitting, but it'd be nice if the message included a bit of *trying to do something about it.* Obviously, individuals can't do anything about our situation alone - but when we come together/organize, we can. That's where a lot of our (the working class - i.e., 90%+ of the population in an advanced capitalist country) power comes from - our numbers. That, and our labor (/withholding it). Because the proletariat are the ones who actually make everything happen.
[Don't @ me, rightoids. Heh.]
@@slipknotboy555How are you going to unionise climate change to death? Demand net zero 20 years ago?
Yeah, if you watch the credits Krill goes on to basically help out animals in danger and stuff. He decides to do something instead of wanting to do nothing (which is how he is for 90% of the game, just wanting to escape to his shell).
@@fangfactory1 Kinda understandable that someone would like to return to the only life they knew if it was suddenly snatched from them. You can tell he starts introspecting when the restaurant crab lady (forgot her name.. Jemma?) starts to question him on his previous life
I wrote a similar comment! I agree with your assessment. Kril gives his shell away because after his awakening he literally can't go home again.
If anything, it has an anti-souls message. The pollution is a big thing and the villain says "the world is shit so lets blow it up." Kril responds with "thats pussy shit" *parry* *parry* *parry*
It finally happened! A Yahtzee Tries game got it own FR.
In another universe you would have said "zp"
@@LeaderofThree Glad we're not living in that universe. I feel so much better about supporting Second Wind. I could never bring myself to support The Escapist.
The micro plastics bit really is timely, since it's been found where certain crabs may lurk now lol
In a sense. I mean, we've known microplastics were in practically everyone's bloodstreams for years now.
If you'd asked, "is the plastics industry grabbing our balls?" I could've said "almost certainly."
The media's reporting on it, so in that sense, it's "timely."
But in another, darker sense, it's "too late."
(Yes, I know I'm being pedantic. Honestly, I mostly wanted to make a "joke" about the fact the plastics corporations have effectively been [starts with "m", rhymes with "protesting"] you for years. And knowing CZcams, couldn't even do that.)
Our weiners are 3D printers now.
@@ichijofestival2576 We just have to wait a few million years until some animals develop the ability to feed on plastic!
@@Oscar97o There's one bacteria that eats a certain kind of plastic already, scientists are already experimenting with it.
Dude, it's inside all of our bodies and it's literally everywhere from the air to the bottom of the sea. Much of it comes from tires by the way.
I hate how every time Yahtzee emphasizes "Crabs" I hear a certain penny-pinching crustacean in the back of my head yell _"Plankton!"_
Yahtzee has a habit of being a very gruff man who often comes down on the side of very cutesy games
He seems to also more forgiving towards indie games, too.
...gruff? Yahtzee?
Indeed. I thought it was well established that he is a banana.
It's a healthy reminder that cynicism is far more interesting, believable & impactful if you have the contrast of _other opinions_ alongside them, rather than just a blanket hatred of everything in place of having a personality
@@jaycielle Sadly people like easy answers and plain haters are all around (or at least seem to be) so I have the experience of frequently being labelled as one.
4:11 brought back memories of this gem “Gaze ye not into the abyss, lest the abyss's boyfriend get narky."
you forgot to mention all the accessibility options like "Give Kril a gun", which replaces his shell with a gun.
Wait, that's actually in the game? I thought that was a mod
@@Ashurman666 It's an actual thing in the game.
@@Timmir00 That's ridiculous, I love it!
@@Ashurman666 yup! But it’s ridiculously over powered. One hit kills no matter what the enemy. It doesn’t punish you for using it too.
@@hawk_ness In fact, you need to do it at least once to get all the game achievements.
3 spoiler free pieces of advice for anyone that wants to play this:
1. Get shell insurance for Yoccult the moment you can. Its ability is healing, so its not a bad one to always spawn with.
2. If youre trying to get all the shells for the achievement, use the matryoshka twice.
3. If you're having trouble with a particular boss, or just want to do something silly, check the accessibility options. Trust me.
stardust crusaders but really really fast - emperor's description
Honestly, it was entertaining enough that I did a second playthrough solely using that accessory for the catharsis after the first playthrough
Nuts to the Yoccult, Imma ride around in my toy truck
more specifically, the yoccult lets you turn your recoverable magic points into healing instead of your limited supply of kelp, giving you MUCH greater sustain during long explorations far from save points
krilly's got a GUN :3
I liked seeing the clothing of the marine life, for instance firth's vest is just a folded up credit card, and that one gal wears a silica gel packet
One thing I really liked was that every time you saw Firth again he'd be wearing a different shell and I don't think any of them are ones that you can wear. Really makes it feel like he's going on his own journey alongside you, which becomes a lot more thematically clever once you get to the end of the game
@@mikerice868 He mainly wears the bought ones from the upper city crab, like the Trophy.... which yea further proves the point he's just a consoomer
I never actually put together that Firth's vest is a credit card! I *did* enjoy finally realizing how Roland's seemingly perfectly-tailored custom fancy suit is actually made from a shoe, with the buckles and straps taken from the lace-up part.
They wanted to call it “One Crab’s Trash”, but it was already used for a SpongeBob episode.
0:26 Dang, mentioning Rusty’s Retirement in the same frame as Hades II as an example of decent indie games. That’s high praise lol
But linked them with a stream of pee so a little ambiguity still
I think the highest praise this game could've gotten is that its title and main concept is one letter away from "Crap", and yet Yahtzee never once made that joke.
It's too mild a swear.
We desperately need another episode of “Let’s all laugh at an industry that never learns anything tee hee hee” he doesn’t have to use the jingle but ready need talk about what’s happening in the game industry (that never learns anything).
Let's all chuckle at a medium
That never self educates
Hum hum hum
He could talk about Activision/Blizzard and the deplorable heartless bastards they've been in the past few years
@@dubstepbeecorsi6892 oh there is plenty to talk about.
So much so he would certainly need to prepare a "little list".
Would highly reccomend playing their earlier game, going under. Really made me feel like an intern, know what I mean?
I bought it on steam sale but i didn't had the time trying out my new games
Oh damn, I remember that. Good game, fun enough that I pushed to fully complete it. I think I stalled out on the absolute top tier post game stuff though. But so much fun still
The optional impostor syndrome boss really changed my perspective on challenge modes forever. It explicitly says "well you didn't _really_ beat the game. You just coasted on a good set of power ups and you only had to beat one piece at a time with saves in between." Then when you beat the hard version it makes up some additional reason that didn't really count and introduces an even harder version _and that's what makes it the villain_.
It really casts the games that are just implicitly doing that past the point where it's fun or interesting in a different light.
@@chriswest6988 Really neat how it both achieves that in mechanical terms AND fits so well thematically -- of course it's the impostor syndrome boss that tells you "well you didn't *REALLY* achieve this because you're good at this, you just got an easy ride"
It's always a treat to hear Yahtzee genuinely enjoy a game.
I absolutely fucking adored this game. Best writing I’ve seen in games in I don’t know how long. There’s a bit maybe 2/3 through the game where the crab has a straight up mental breakdown, and as someone who also suffers from mental illness I’ve never seen a better portrayal of what it feels like to be laid low.
Realistic depiction of a panic attack
It hadn’t occurred to me before but this might be the first soulslike I’ve played that has a main character with an actual character arc.
Plus I really like the puns.
@@glswain Pseudo from Clash: Artifacts of Chaos may supply in "having an actual character arc" as well. That game's not outright Souls-like despite having quite recognizable elements, but is very much worth looking into. Just as colorful and imaginative as Another Crab's Treasure.
It genuinely feels like the zany platformers from a bygone era, like Psychonauts, it's as if Double Fine decided to make a Souls game and fuse it with their own sense of humor and platforming sections.
Another Crab's Treasure isn't the only kinda-Souls-ish colorful game with a lot of imagination and a good story and atmosphere. 2023 had Clash: Artifacts of Chaos. Focus is more on martial arts than weaponry, finding different styles and individual attacks to customize your own style with.
Good game that i can fondly recommend.
@@jurtheorc8117 will check it out.
Well of course Yahtzee would be playing crab souls
*dark shoals
Or Shellden Ring
Cancerborne?
I kind of feel like this could be a evil cousin of Sebastian the Crab from the little mermaid.
Sebastian would be the evil version of krill. That little dude just wants his house and not to hurt people.
I was waiting for the day Yahtzee finally talked about his crabs.
I love when titles starring adorable cartoon protagonists get attention, reminds us all that games are supposed to be FUN
I've been following these guys for YEARS and the fact they're getting such praise makes me so happy.
Huge congratulations for catching and enjoying crabs.
I really enjoyed Crabs too. It has a certain charm that carries it even though the combat and camera can have a bit of a clunky feel. Thought I'd just try it for a couple of hours on gamepass until moving on but ended up beating the whole game and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The studio's previous game - Going Under - has some of the same biting satire and character. Well worth checking out for how well it combines mechanics and narrative.
How to set a tone for a game: have Michael Reeves and Gianni Matregreno as the two first decently important non protagonist characters
Seeing the developer engagement with the community and taking feedback on accessibility has put the title on my add list.
been absolutely loving this game, and I think Miyazaki has been hinting at giant crabs being the real souls experience since the early days with all the giant killer crabs he puts in his games.
I bought Hi-Fi Rush because of your review and I'm devastated the studio was closed.
50 seconds in and the forseen crabs joke came in full force.
5:22 Ya know my only major problem with the game was the ending cuz like if i wanted a downer ending i wouldn't be playing the colourful crab game its like if i made a game and advertised it as looking like fear and hunger with a similar tone but in reality though the game gets violent non of the MCs really suffer, it has combat heavily based of the mario and Luigi RPS and the MCs beat the monsters with the power of friendship
Cross the bog, to the sands between, to stand before the shellden ring, and become shellden lord.
I misread the title of this on an earlier video from y'all, and have been *much more* infatuated with my fake title of "Another Crab's Hurricane" 😅
I'm hoping Yahtzee does Animal Well next, considering the game was made by 1 person and published by a CZcamsr. It seems very relevant to him.
Finally! I've been waiting for him to review it before I buy
I mean its on game pass if you have access to it
Damm, didn't realize the funny jpg endings were still in the credits. Guess I gotta go watch them again 😄
Crabs is good, but was “Shelden-Ring” taken?
I for one love the accessibility feature that lets you finish the game without Gettin' Gud as the phrase goes
Only took 20 seconds before Yahtzee started taking the piss.
A quick reminder for everyone to manually check on your favorite CZcamsrs once in a while. I just noticed that CZcams hadn't alerted me about any Second Wind videos for the past seven weeks even though I'm still subscribed.
This is a fantastic studio! Going Under was also fantastic; that one's a rogue-lite dungeon crawler where you're a tech intern venturing to other tech startups. Very funny, and a very tight game.
I think Yahtz was cooking when he mentioned there are other things to like about the so called "soulslike" genre besides blistering difficulty. Don't get me wrong, I've sunk me teeth into some games designed to be hard, I love Hollow Knight for instance, but part of my love for Hollow Knight comes from the lore, characters, artstyle, interesting setting. If all those other aspects were mid and it's only claim to fame was being really damn hard, I probably wouldn't like it much. It reminds me of the Fromsoft fans who would lose their minds when people suggest Fromsoft games could have difficulty settings and accessibility options, so more people can enjoy the game at a pace that works for them. I'd personally be very down with more games that mechanically play like Fromsoft games, but their charm comes more from presentation or story than trying to ape the ball busting difficulty of Darksouls or whatever other game. That's not to say similar games shouldn't have challenge, just, y'know, the emphasis could be in a place other than where part of the Fromsoft appeal is "Our games are particularly really damn hard.".
So glad that Yahtzee reviewed this fully. And more glad, if even possible, that he liked it.
Softening in our old ages, mate.
On the day I finally play this game, I'm ONLY listening to Attack Attack, Asking Alexandria, and Abandon All Ships. Crabcore and crabsouls: A match made in heaven.
Are those bands or individual artists, or specific pieces from AC'sT's soundtrack?
Bands from 08-09.
@@user-zi6fm7zr5e Thank you for clarifying!
Yes! Love that this got a fully. Well I guess it deserves it for giving Yahtzee a semi
I love how after the first boss everyone will keep telling you how he's such a great guy
"An ambitious crab and a cowardly crab make an equally tasty bisque" -- Yahtzee Crowshaw
That may be the best bit of pop philosophy I've heard in a while.
Ive been hopeing for this, thank you !
This was a really well made Fully Ramblomatic.
You forgot to mention how there's an Easy Mode that gives you a giant fuck off gun that one-shots everything. Even bosses 😂
I actually liked the ad. Didn't get in the way and actually provided me with a product I wanted to buy.... My god.
It helps to know this is the studio that gave us Going Under. My favorite connection between the 2 is that in both games the idle animation bends you over in a small way.
Difficulty is a crutch for soulslikes. An engaging easier game is the hardest to make, and brings out the best in the mechanics
the abyss is pretty emotionally unavailable these days is genuinely hilariously profound. reminds me of EL-P's lyric "hello void, long time listener, first time calling in"
I'm so utterly pleased that my favorite game reviewer is reviewing a game I voice a character in! :D
really like you keeping the music playing over the sponsor section
He's not joking about the first boss, by the way. You can literally HEAR just how absurdly angry and hot-blooded the boss is from his every scream.
Always appreciate good vocal performances. Especially for bosses where you're in the game for about ten minutes tops. The only really emotional boss I remember from Dark Souls was Oceiros.
I just found out zero punctuation is over and came here.. I missed you
I mean, it wouldn't really be a Souls-like without bad platforming now would it.
Looks like a fun game. :)
That final joke goes so hard Idk wether to laugh or cry.
...holy shit I actually watched the whole ad at the end. Crazy to see how many legends were made on this engine...
Also glad Yahtzee's finally just dropped the ruse and admitting he just wants to give everyone crabs.
I found the ending more depressing than any souls game and I loved it
I was on the fence with this one. Definitely going to get crabs as soon as I can.
The line about
Bisque
is hauntingly poetic.
Should be on a tombstone.
Has Crabs. 9/10
We'll be seeing this one again in the Top 5 of 2024
I just learned the word "Soulslike" for the first time today.
Good heavens really? Games have been described as "Souls-like" and "Souls-light" for a while now. Lucky you I guess.
Yahtzee. You need to play "in stars and time" it's the best written game I've ever seen. With incredible characters, amazing interactions, and a heart breaking story... And more people need to know about it
This is probably the most enthusiastically positive review Yahtzee's ever penned
I enjoyed the feigned sarcasm in the ad
Holy shit Yahtzee, it’s been so long sibce I’ve watched your content I’m so glad this crossed my feed. I missed your content.
Such a tasty treat when yahtzee actually likes a game. I still go back to the painkiller review from time to time when melancholy hits.
That same parry mechanic showed up in Smash Ultimate. Release the shield button for parry. Time it wrong and you either shield it or take a forward smash to the face. It's about risk, and i appreciate it.
I can't believe this game got a full ramblonatic I love it
At long last.
The rise of the Crablike.
I was waiting for Yahtzee to review this ever since Iron Pineapple mentioned it.
As they always say, everything eventually evolves into crabs.
Can’t believe he didn’t mention the “easy mode” where Krill’s shell is a gun with unlimited ammo that kills every enemy from the low level grunt to the final boss in one hit lmao
It's nice when Yahtzee simply has a nearly unqualified positive review for a game.
... I did the math, we're up to 7 now.
Ooh, were only all sponsor deals for such genuinely nice products.
I've been considering getting this game, and I'm more eager to now that it has the Yahtzee stamp of approval.
That sponsor scared me! I thought 6:01 was saying that Yahtzee created Katana Zero…
in the end, we all return to crab
This is the closest to a nioh 2 review i'll get from this man and it says exactly what i expect it to say.
Glad to see another high profile reviewer enjoyed this absolute gem. A few rough edges aside, this was still my GOTY so far!
Play if you love Souls, play if Souls has always scared you off.
It truly is "Time for Crab"
Very funny review, and not gonna lie, Another Crab's Treasure has really been pushed on the top of the things I am hyped about. It's writing seems to be too perfect to be true. Hats off to devs.
Yes! More Crab games!
Crab Champions, Another Crab's Treasure, ?
The dog is cute, but I miss the imps. Hope you can get the imps back someday
Yatz sounds so happy, yay~
I love this game a lot. It is so fun and endearing. Also even raging at it feels fun.
Interesting. Might be on my radar
This dev made Going Under. A fantastic game that pokes fun at start ups and tech stuff. Very funny rogue like. I played this for weeks. I'll get this new one too now I know about it.
