Modern bike reviews: Where can I put my iphone and MP3 player?
Old time bike reviews: More grunt than a commercial piggery.
Don't necessarily like the wide tyres, but have booked a three hour test ride.
Most riders do not understand the difference between brake horsepower (ps) and torque.

I had the pleasure of taking out one of the first gen R3s for an afternoon while my Speed Triple was in for service, and even that one at the time (back in 2006) was amazing. The torque is incredible. It just feels like you could leave it in third and never even need to shift. Roll on power was addictive to say the least. It also didn't feel nearly as heavy as the specs suggest. The weight is carried very low, and is pretty easy to manage at parking lot speeds. Certainly easier to ride than a big twin Harley as far as weight and balance goes (not that the Harley is bad by any means). My favorite part though is that when you blip the throttle, the bike rocks side to side under you due to the massive crank and the longitudinal mounted engine. Just feels like raw power. My next bike will UNDOUBTEDLY be the new R3 roadster.

This is still too heavy, although it's low-slung. I rode the old Roadster and it felt a lot lighter than it was. This may feel quite nimble. 18-litre fuel tank is to keep the weight down.

The thing with hd is they’re fun to burble along bc the torque is so low down, ie 1500rpm. These euro cruisers often have the ‘look’ but their engines are revvier which is not necessarily a good thing because they often end up like confused low slung sportsbikes.

Thnx for the video. I would prefer the "R" model. I had a 2015 Yamaha Vmax so i'm sure i could handle the weight.

The R is my choice ... I like the mid-mount pegs and the lower handlebar. Would just purchase the GT seat to make it a tad lower.

So when I get my multi million pound lottery win, can afford a big house with a double garage, and can fill it up with say 8 bikes and an Ariel Atom car, a Triumph Rocket would be bike number eight , after (1). Speed Twin (2) Speed Triple (3) Ducati Panigale (4) Norton Commando 961 (5) Triumph Tiger 1200 (6) 1954 -> 1956 classic Triumph Tiger 110 (7) classic 1970s Norton Commando 750
If it did make it as bike number 8, I guess I'd have it super charged, hopefully get more power than a Kawasaki H2R, and try drag racing :)
But in the meantime, back in the real world , I would like a ride of one , but Triumph aren't going to be selling me one anytime soon. Guess I need to buy the lottery ticket ...

I think a lot of us were expecting more from the GT model. The passenger seat and backrest is a joke and soft luggage is even worse. No cowling for the front and an 18 LT fuel tank is hardly a touring bike in north America. Hopefully they come out with a proper touring model like the last model that can take on the HD touring bikes. After an hour in the saddle wind pounding you all day it won't take long to get frustrated with this bike. Thank god i bought the Trophy SE or I would have to have spent my $23K on a BMW, which is slowly looking like the only option available for sport touring. Yep this bike looks fantastic, but not too practical to cover distance with a pillion and luggage.

    • @frankwhelan1715
      @frankwhelan1715 Před 4 lety +1

Maybe they'll bring out some asserories to make it more touring friendly though
the small tank would be still a problem.

So top speed will be that of the fuel tanker ( 60 MPH ) you need to be behind for in-ride refueling, because the tank is so small.
    Otherwise , nice bike :)

Get BMW to make a DAKAR style tank for the touring version like the 32 litre one on my R80GS. Alternatively, a Ural outfit with a Petrol tank in the side-car - that should hold a bit. Outfit and Rocket connected by Bluetooth communication system.
Electric powered Rocket in the wings?
