  • I could not find many "How to" projects for making Walking Sticks for Beginners on the Tube so decided to do a series for making a Walking Staff.
    This is Part IV.

    Cool video! I hike in the mountains around my small town in pennsylvania and the very first thing i do is look for a good stick. They help your balance and can be used to fend off snakes and knock those darn spider webs off the path before your face does. Lol. I have a few stashed where the path i usually get on starts and was just thinking man i wish i had THE stick. I guess i have to make it. Thank God for people like you who appreciate something as simple and useful as a stick. With a little bit of time and effort you can have a badass stick and people might knock it but i bet if they ever get out in the bush with you, theyll be just a tad jealous whether they admit it or not😂😂. Cool stuff!!

    Good job. Nice stick. What you called a “shoe knot” is also called an overhand knot. The non- square knot is also called a “granny” knot. Granny knots are famous for their unreliability. They come loose easily and as a result tree granny knot can’t be trusted. You could also dip the tip of your cord, string or twine in your epoxy. That will seal it so it doesn’t fray. A coat of any kind of glue will work on almost all kinds of string, paradors, jute, hemp or cotton. The glue will make the ends stiff so they can be poked through most holes. I usually use Duco modeling cement.

    Dennis I just discovered your channel after very recently discovering a love for woodworking, thank you for putting this beginner series out, I’ve been following it religiously. I did have a question though, how did you go about rounding off the ends of your stick? Did you use the sanding ball or another method?

    • @OzarkArtsandCrafts
      @OzarkArtsandCrafts  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I mostly use an angle grinder to rough out the top end if it's going to be rounded. I rough the basic round shape at the time I remove the bark. I the sanding ball after I do the roughing. I demonstrate and show this better in Part II and Part III of my beginner series:

    Will it become lighter in weight as l shave it down? It’s very heavy. Thank you❤

    Working my way through the walking stick videos, thanks again for making these.
    Would only recommend epoxy for filling gaps in the wood or is there anything else?

    • @OzarkArtsandCrafts
      @OzarkArtsandCrafts  Před měsícem +1

      Epoxy is what I use 99% of the time for anything that looks like it may grow or get out of hand. If wood has dried good and a small shallow crack, then I may use a wood glue. Thanks for your comment.

      @@OzarkArtsandCrafts Thanks for the reply, I think I’ll have to look into using epoxy on an upcoming project.
      I was thinking if there was anything that may do some kind of natural (or free) alternative and my best guess so far was pine resin, but I’m not finding that much of it at the mo, plus obviously it’ll work nowhere near as well so I think I just need to bite the bullet and get some!

    What is the epoxy and curing agent you use in this video?

    • @OzarkArtsandCrafts
      @OzarkArtsandCrafts  Před 10 měsíci

      It is just a two part epoxy (A & B). No curing agent is needed. Just mix equal parts together. Thanks for your comment.

    I can't believe how simple this is. I guess people don't work with their hands any more ! Its all done with computers and cnc machines. I don't use them. I like to use my hands and brain. Those folks would be lost if their computer goes belly up or the power goes down. Give me some simple hand tools and can make most anything.
