People are attaching a narrative to the Dan and Chevy interviews. They are supposed to be dry humour bits. Their relationship broke down later, you're reading too much into it.
Yeah I’m not really sensing anything between them in this. Chevy just has a dry way about him with the nose blowing and cereal eating that’s just his humor.
nah they had tensions since S1 and it got progressively worse until S3 which is the one where hell broke loose according to the cast (it's also the season where Pierce gets much less scenes), it was always bad.
tho I agree that this doesn't really tell anything, they're still just acting like comedians.
I agree I’m sure there were some tensions but let’s be honest Pierce was always the least likable character it would make sense for them to take this angle. The other actors had concepts of a more serious tone as well (Yvette not getting a lot to do as a character, potential eating disorders)
You know, I don't see this enough, but I love Community, and I love Chevy Chase, and it's okay if an actor and a show don't mesh well. I understand both positions, especially Chevy's discomfort growing about the role, and his inability to adapt to the workload of this type of show. By the other actors's admission, this show was time-expensive, and I'm sure if they didn't enjoy it, they wouldn't have wanted to work on it. Chevy didn't enjoy his experience, so that probably lended to the resentment. I get it. I see way too many people act like Dan was amazing, the show was amazing (both points I agree with), and Chevy is terrible. There's more nuance to real life.
Very much so. It's the only part of this whole skit that people are taking serious. They can obviously work together without their personal problems affecting the bits being that they finished filming the seasons.

And then a few months later Amazon Prime got it, then a while later Netflix got it. So I've got the DVDs just sitting on my shelf without ever being used. I'm going to watch the bonus features after I finish this run on Netflix that I'm currently on. Gotta get those Netflix numbers up if we want that movie

You know, Yvette had a point, Shirley and Troy never had an episode where it was about them. There’s pretty much at least one episode with every other pairing of the study group except them. Except for maybe pierce and abed.

I mean Dan Harmon was constantly writing his character as more cartoonishly racist and bigoted, which I can't imagine would make him stoked about being chipper on set all the time. Also, the message incident that Harmon talked about was after Dan Harmon had literally done a "F**k you, Chevy" speech in front of Chevy's wife and daughter. As for the n-bomb incident, the director of the episode, Jay Chandrasekhar (who's Indian), defended him saying he used it "politically" to demonstrate how racist his character had become. He probably is kind of a dick, but I also think he was often being disrespected on that show and at least he kept his insults/criticisms private, as opposed to Harmon. I like a lot of Dan Harmon's stuff, but it honestly kinda bugs me that he gets chance after chance for his shitty behavior while Chevy, a comedic legend, was blacklisted for being difficult and saying a no no word.

It really sucks how personal grievances ruined Pierces's character. Chevy is a comedy master and in early seasons Harmon wrote such good material for him. Too bad

Dillon Chevy Chase has been a dick for a long ass time though.
Chevy might be a dick (Harmon can be too), but I really loved his character and his delivery was always perfect. I agree I did miss some of his season 1 character, and I was disappointed in how malicious he got at times in season 2 because it didn’t make sense for his character. I stopped watching after season 3, the show needed both of them.
Yea this is how i feel about it. Chevy's character was treated like shit often and it feels like it was personal considering all the drama between them. And yes, it doesn't excuse chevy who probably felt entitled but yea, i can understand him feeling the way he did
The use of the N-word still isn’t justified because he used it for selfish purposes (to try to artificially emphasize his own personal point). As for the “F*ck you, Chevy” line, I think it’s important to clarify that his kids were both in their 40s at the time. I’m not saying that the cheer was perfectly reasonable, but not clarifying the age leads people to assume his kids were, like, 12 or something, which would have been much worse.

@@lucasheras1460 Yes its also quite sad how when he did have screen time the other characters all begun to hate him, and he was kind of written to be the enemy of the friend ship group.
