- Nice little clip to commemorate the Royal visit to Iceland in 1990. Iv'e added subtitles but the visit to Krísuvík hot spring area took an hour longer than previously planned due to their interest in the very hot area that teased them a bit, and demonstrated how unpredictable our nature is
The Krísuvík hot springs are not far away from the Geldingadalir volcano and it's a popular tourist destination only 15 minutes from Reykjavik.

Thank you for visiting the Just Icelandic Channel.
Greetings from Iceland. Gylfi
It all feels very strange right now, and there's a subdued atmosphere across the nation. In an odd sense, we've just lost our mother: regardless of your nationality, or religion, in times of crisis, it was to our Queen Elizabeth we looked for guidance and support. King Charles has some very big shoes to fill.
"big shoes to fill" that describes it very well, and thanks
This American's condolences to you. She was exemplary.
She was a remarkable woman who knew the right things to say both publically and privately to put people at ease. There aren't many world leaders over the last 7 decades who haven't deferred to Her Majesty at one time or another.
Thank you :)
Nice of you to honor Her Majesty with a remembrance video. It looked like everyone enjoyed one another's company and the countryside visit.
Yes I knew instantly I had to add this here :) fit also well with the geology theme of my channel
@@JustIcelandic The royals seemed like kids exploring the hot springs. Probably a nice break from the protocol in the life of royalty. 🤗
She will be greatly missed, thank you for sharing your happy memories .💗🕊️⛵
Thank you :)
Very thoughtful of you to do this.
Thank you :)
Thanks for finding this. Tbh I am quite emotional today. I feel like a part of my family has died. She was a great figurehead and steered us through some tricky waters. This has been a very strange year domestically for us. It's nice that other countries feel the loss as we do. The Queen touched everyone's heart.
Thank you :)
Thankyou so much for uploading this video Gylfi. It was a reminder of how happy the Queen and Prince Philip were together, and it was lovely to see them laughing with your lovely President, Vigdis Finnbogadóttir, as they visited those hot springs. It is good to be reminded of happier times.
Thankyou too for your condolences. It means a lot.
Your'e welcome :)
Thank you for sharing this wonderful video of our late and beautiful Queen Elizabeth ❤🤍💙
Welcome 😊
Very, very many thanks for that - I was touched to hear and see that the late Queen and Duke found the hot spring area so fascinating as the main reason for my visits to Iceland has always been geology. I visited Krisuvik itself twice last year - seems to have changed a lot since 1990 - and also walked around on the Solheimajokull glacier. I'm thinking of making another visit to Iceland at the end of this month but will have to do some money sums this weekend first!
You may know that the Duke of Edinburgh founded the young people's adventuring award scheme named after him here in the UK, so I'm not surprised he found Iceland fascinating. I wonder if he ever got near one of your glaciers? He would always make a point of awarding the D of E Gold awards himself to successful finishers. I managed a Bronze back in 1969.
Your Head of State must have been the redoubtable Vigdis Finnbogadottir, elected at a time when female Heads of State were a lot less commonplace than now. I remember the stir her election caused in the UK's newspapers and other media.
Yes it was Vigdís and she's still with us :) but it's not much to be found about the Duke's visits, but here is a clip though that you might like from 1964 :) and greetings from iceland czcams.com/video/2fJ8ZtuuvNs/video.html
As a Brit, can’t tell you how pleased I am that you did this.
We’re hearing on our radio stations all the stories of fellow Brits who are sharing their stories when they had their opportunity to meet Queen Elizabeth, but to see her look genuinely interested in Iceland’s geological activity is nothing short of extremely admirable.
Have been an avid geeky viewer of your channel alongside GeologyHub for some time!
God bless you and may God save the new king!
God save the king and greetings from Iceland :)
GOD bless the Queen and GOD save the KING
Welcome
Thank you for this!! 💖 Clearly, the Queen had fun on her trip to Iceland!
Absolutely!! She got a good show from mother nature :)
She was a strong, beautiful, confident woman who will be missed and remembered. I miss her so much
Thank you and welcome :)
Very interesting video. Thank you.
Welcome
This is an amazingly special journey back in time! So happy to see this. And thank you for honouring Queen Elizabeth by posting this, with English subtitles and the Queen's own voice. So thoughtful.
Glad you enjoyed it and welcome :)
Thank you!
It's Saturday morning now, and that cheered us up a lot over the breakfast table. The sequence with the umbrella is delightful, and both of them are evidently having great fun, too. They were wonderful together, and we were so blessed to have had her as Queen for so long. Good memories are a big help at times like this.
Thank you and welcome :)
Thank you so much for posting this video. I did wonder if the Queen had ever visited Iceland.
Yes this was here only visit...
Really appreciate you posting this video. It just goes to show how adventurous and interested the Queen and Prince Phillip were in such amazing natural places like Iceland. I’m sure she had a great time in such a great country.
My pleasure :)
Thank you for showing this. The Queen and her husband enjoyed every place they visited. Lovely memories!
Glad you enjoyed it
So great to see the royal pair smiling and clearly enjoying themselves in Iceland and acknowledging the "difficulties" between the two nations. *Thank You*
Couldn't agree more and always welcome :)
this was fun to watch! I love Prince Philipps reaction to the geyser, grinning while Elizabeth was running away. :D
Thanks! 😄
What a lovely tribute. So in line with the channel. Thanks!
Many thanks!
Thank you for sharing. Such a memorable visit it must have been.
Sure was and greetings from Iceland :)
I remember this visit being a big deal. I was stationed at NAS Keflavik at the time.
Yes this was a big thing back then :)
I enjoyed the tour of the hot springs. The Queen looked as if she really enjoyed getting wet and the adventure as she walked the boardwalk at the end. Such a girlish smile and walk there. Reminded me of her being with her horses as a teenager.
Thanks for sharing :)
that was funny.. when the Queen got covered in steam.. RIP your majesty.
thanks for sharing Gylfi 😊
Thanks for visiting 😊
It was a shock. Certain things throughout the day, did make me think it was happening. News readers wearing black, TV special on the queen; and policians getting urgent notes. The news of her family rushing to her side on doctor's orders.... I hoped it wasn't happening. She's not been doing well since Philip passed away.
Thank for sharing and welcome
Thanks so much for sharing this with us. I especially enjoyed Queen Elizabeth’s heartfelt words of shared values at he end of the clip.
Thank you 😊
Wow, thanks for sharing! So good to see this happy, laughing version of the Queen in Krisuvik.
Glad you enjoyed it and welcome
Thank yo for sharing it was lovely. Hugs to you in Iceland 💝
Thank you too!
Thank you.
Welcome
Thank you
You're welcome
Thank you Gylfi for posting this; we are all reeling in the aftermath. I have never known a world without Queen Elizabeth and I feel her loss as if I have lost my own Gran. She was the touchstone of continuity, service and stability for the whole world.😓
Thank you and welcome 🙏
Thank you for sharing this
No problem 😊
Nice touch mate, thanks for sharing .
Thanks 👍
The Queen is so missed
Thank for sharing!
Takk fyrir þetta Gylfi 🙌🙌😇
Velkomin Heiða :)
Hehe, i find it so difficult to understand the language as a swede, one sentence and I'm there, next I'm lost xD
I hope that English God saved their queen, and that they have a good time with the new king.
Kram♡♡♡
Thank you :) and greetings to Sweden :)
As an American Anglophile You have my sincerest thanks!
💔🙏⚡️
Thank you :)
That time HM was replaced by a double 😆
She clearly needed it due to the steam :)
The “friction” the Queen refers to in her speech, is of course the “Cod Wars” of the 1950’s and 1970’s.
Exactly :)
The Queen was a plucky woman to try some of the things she did....Too bad she didn’t get a chance to ride one of the Icelandic horses...but I doubt she would have been allowed. Could be reasons why she only came once.... She did visit many times here in Nova Scotia. She was greatly admired here in Canada and will be greatly missed I am sure. Thanks for this very interesting piece of history.
Welcome :)
Nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
I always loved her outfits and hats, very elegant ✨
I agree!!
That hat she's wearing is amazing!
Impromptu hot shower and sauna 🌟 Marvellous video, thank you 👍
Thank you too
Sad that she is no longer on this earth. She has outlived many people throughout her reign. Prince Charles (now King) is said to go fishing in Iceland on some occasions.
He did so a long time a go but we've not seen him for years now
Tak.
Shame about the horrible angular car they had to travel in. Ah! Magnus :)
I love those old cars :)
Do you remember her visiting?
Actually yes, wish I had my zoom lens back then :)
Where did the trees come from?
Imported from Finland
I take it this report came from RÚV?
It did
Indoctrination is one hell of a thing. The monachry important only because everyone tells you she is. Not that she does much of value
*hup*
what a fucking liberty!
Welcome :)
