    Try lifting the windward rudder for less drag and more speed. You only need one rudder in the water and the leeward hull has most of the pressure on it, so leave that rudder down for steering. Of course, swap over rudders when going the other way.

    Sam keep it up, I thought about building a kite boat a while back so I could take my girlfriend out who doesn't kite yet and we could enjoy time on the water together. Man you really nailed it with the simplicity of your system and it shows here against what seems like a much more expensive, bespoke design. Love the Hobie conversion idea, I think I will try it ;)

      @SamLight  Před 4 lety +1

      Yea it's a great way for people to experience kiting without kitesurfing, Hobie works great, you just need somewhere to keep it and an outboard bracket so you can motor yourself, go for it! You can pick Hobie up super cheap...

      It is also possible to use a kayak for 2 person. Have fun!

    Looks like great fun. Just an idea, some feet pedal controls for the rudders might help make it a bit quicker as the one flying the kite can feel both boat and kite. Keep up the content Im trying to get strapless kitesurfing sussed so any tips would be sweet. 🤙

    Looks like you need a secundary bar, this secundary bar only is a extension of first one, and It allows you put in one position more fixed and confortable

      A trick: you can watch movies at flixzone. Been using it for watching a lot of movies lately.

    Awesome 👍 are you able to tack the boat yet or is it all jibes?

  • @GeckoCkCkCk

    Hobie cat without the mast is too heavy in the stern. Might go faster if helmsman sits farther forward. Going great though!

  • @40hills1
    @40hills1 Před 4 lety

    Very cool. IMHO, and maybe not shared by other kiters who aren't into sailing, is that this is way more interesting than watching backroll after backroll. I still want to try this with my little Zuma sailboat... need to get off my arse and make it happen.

      I'm reasonably familiar with the hobbie cat hull on flat water, I'd guess that was an easy 12 knots (just over 20kmh)

    Why is there only a single dagger board and why is it on the starboard side?

    • @SamLight
      @SamLight  Před 4 lety +1

      We were experimenting with different dagger board arrangements, it doesn't need dagger boards as the hulls provide a lot of grip, they do help going upwind but also have a lot of drag, one dagger board on the leighward side seemed to be best

  • @juanpasala
    @juanpasala Před 4 lety +1

    You need some dagger boards

    • @SamLight
      @SamLight  Před 4 lety

      We have dagger boards, they have a lot of drag and not really necessary for top speed on a reach, they help to go upwind slightly

    I don’t see the point in that. I would just use the mast and sails rather than a kite. It be better and more fun.

      @@SamLight That's awesome! We bought a 19m slingshot, yet to hook it up to our hobie 21sc, kinda nervous, probably should have bought a 15m to learn with. However, we're sailors converting to the kite and we don't really have a beach to start from so we will most likely have to do water starts, thank science for CZcams. We just bought a go pro so when we do we'll post the video.

    • @SamLight
      @SamLight  Před 4 lety +1

      @@keenanfromcleveland1920 Awesome! That will be so much fun. I would recommend doing it in at least 15+ knots to start, its much harder in light wind, look forward to seeing the video!

    This has been done on the early 80’s with flexifoil, cat has no gasket and that boat design is all wrong in so many ways that makes you cry!
