73 MILES SOLO KITE around ISLE OF WIGHT unassisted

  • First ever unassisted solo kite foil around the Isle Of Wight. 73 miles (120KM) in 3 hours 42 mins. The last time it took me 6 hours but we messed around for a bit and took a break. The sailing record is held by a MOD70 at 2 hours 22 minutes, however I wasn't trying to break it, just push my limits by going SOLO!
    Kite Equipment: Slingshot SST 8M. Ghost Whisperer 590 Wing, 101 mast. Dwarf Craft 3'6 board strapless.

    Very impressive I am a windsurfer and do long rides around S.F. Bay BUT the most I ever did was about 10 miles at most! Plus don't do it anymore since a 2500lbs white shark ate a seal in less then 4 mins by Alcatraz

    One time kiting in Australia I went alone with no one on the beach no one knew I was there and the wind dropped far away like a mile and a half from the shore, shit man I've fainted 2 times in a bay full of sharks had to final release the kite lost my board and yes you know it I didn't have a vest on me, took me 1.5hrs to make it back to the shore and since that day I'm scared as fuck to go alone like you just did, big ball there mate keep it up I'm entertained

    Sam, if you like riding around island, next time you could try around Jersey or Guernsey !
    And/Or crossing between France and Jersey !
    If you plan to do this, I'm sure we could build a trip with a bunch of riders from both countries (France and Jersey) and have some fun crossing between the two lands !

    Ahhh the single cylinder Yanmar clonker, music to my ears!
    Oh yes and the kite surfing is terrifying!
    And remember next time, the units are knots and nautical miles. If you want to reference yourself against ANY other on water challenges (yachts, powerboats etc) the knots it is. Remember all your winds are in knots! And if the world has truly changed to kph then I can only hold my head in my hands.
    Brilliant travelogue and you should on Discovery Channel with that level of professional editing

      Phil B agree, had to convert to kts

    • @SamLight
      @SamLight  Před 4 lety +1

      I agree but my watch doesn't do knots so I have to do it in kmh or mph and doing the conversion while foiling is tricky, I don't want to get it wrong. The Yanmar is a 2 cylinder actually :D

    • @davidcollins5489
      @davidcollins5489 Před 4 lety

      To reference water challenges maybe, but to connect with a kiteboarding audience who I am pretty sure the vast majority are NOT sailors Km/h is more relatable. As.a Yank, I’d actually prefer mph, but I realize our system is stupid.
