    "Extend Your Screen, The Sequel" is here by popular demand based on requests and messages from my "Extend Your Screen" video which dealt with outputing a head's up display for the MODX/Montage.
    This video goes into the components needed to create an extended touchscreen and all the procedures that were needed to make this hack happen.
    As mentioned in this video, the process and parts outlined here is completely EXPERIMENTAL and is not supported by Yamaha (ie that's why it's a HACK :). User discretion is advised.
    Components list:
    Multi-display adapter: amzn.to/3ceNVlR
    4 port USB hub: amzn.to/3l1iyik

    Ok. This, as long as I bought what you said, is working so perfectly that I want to cry. 😢 but of happiness. 😅 I have back and neck problems, so I had to give up on my MODX and leave it for a year in its case, opting for de mx49. But now, it is like the MODX resurrection. Thank you so much for sharing.

    How cool is that, the fact that the YH engineers designed it to accept this configuration makes you wonder why it is not officially supported or mentioned in the documentation.

      They use LINUX which is fully open source, Linux has a lot of other features included in it, they chose to use the graphical interface libraries and compiled in HID compatibility in the LINUX CORE, which means it's tablet compatible as well. It doesn't mean that it is multi touch compatible, just acts as a positional mouse if you like. So if your touch screen monitor has a standard GENERIC HID mouse/tablet compatible feature - it should work out of the box with the Montage / Modx.

    Thank you for the 2 vids and your entire channel. I brought my new MODX8 baby home yesterday and this honeymoon is starting off great! Though my mind is spinning out of control, I had already thought briefly about if yamaha enabled a way to extend the touchscreen! Upon your guidance I have the networking adapters and even snagged the LAST S2240T (at least that is what the online retailer stated, haha) This is going to make learning much more bearable on my eyes and my neck!!!!! Cheers! JB

These S2240T monitors are still out there floating around, and they keep coming up on Ebay in case any one else is interested. Also best of luck with the MODX8, and yes there is a LOT to know about this machine, but give it some time and keep digging, the rewards just keep on coming!

      @@JoseVGavila There's no reason for it NOT to work. It seems they compiled the LINUX core with HID compatibility in order for tablets (touch screens) to work, so there's no reason for it not to work with the mouse or keyboards for that matter. However - don't expect the mouse cursor to show up :)

      @joonglegamer9898 Před 4 lety

      @@JoseVGavila Well, I haven't tried that yet, but I do know in X (the graphical interface for Linux) you can turn mouse pointer on/off. Since Yamaha didn't intend for this unit to be controlled with a mouse and only a "tablet style" screen, it only made sense for them to turn it off.
      However - if you can access the Linux Operating system inside of it, you can find the .xconfig file under (or xorg) and edit the configuration text file, you should be able to manually set it to display again. Please read up on how linux and Xorg works BEFORE you attempt this. Also realize that you are VOIDING your Modx and Montage warranty by messing around with these things. I think it's relatively safe to do so - as long as you make a backup of the files you mess around with. It won't destroy any hardware.

  • @digitalperformer7
    @digitalperformer7 Před 4 lety

    Philips 222B9T seems to be perfectly compatible with Plugable DVI and Montage, but after several calibration attempts I gave up. It turned out that, once reached the calibration page via Montage buttons, the first white box on the touch screen is displayed but the real point to press must be found by chance. This shifts all the points somewhere else, thus once come back to the normal display, it's impossible to hit the desired parameter. By the way, I hooked the same touch monitor to my Windows 10 laptop and it worked immediately.

      The #1 fool proof monitor for this purpose is the Dell S2240T. Others claim to have had success with the ACER T232HL, but those people have not uploaded video proving their claims...and they won't--it's a myth. See my video on that screen here czcams.com/video/QeNd-7-AolY/video.html.

A HID device (which this Yamaha Linux core has been compiled with) should work with 1-positional mouse pointer/tablet devices (however, cursor might be hidden by default). This means that if your touch screen comes with multiple-touch-points, like multi-touch in phones, the drivers for this might not be installed in the LINUX core they have probably compiled themselves. But if you do your research (for example, make sure that the touch screen is of the RESISTIVE type) then I's almost guaranteed to work as long as it's GENERIC HID compatible.
