    Dom you've helped me so much with my Montage and my wife's MODX (she plays bass on it). I really appreciate all your excellent videos and straightforward approach, it's helped a bunch navigating these complex synths. Big thanks from Silver City, New Mexico!

    wow Thank you So So Much. I am a Korean user and couldn't find a high level lesson like yours. I was in the mood to cry because I didn't know how to make a sound, but I'm so glad to find you. The feature called Control Assign is a very crazy feature. I had no idea.

    Hi Dom. Thanks for your videos I’m a big fan of yours and I’m also (sort of) Yamaha collector/enthusiast! If that’s even a thing! I hope I don’t sound wrong here but this video is for promotional purposes only and barely useful to MODX/Montage users. And the reason is this; you know very well that what you are showing here only applies to very basic sounds that have no/or minimum assignments already existing, that’s why you are able to assign these parameters with one knob turn with no problem. As soon as you start messing around with a little more complex sounds you hit a wall, and by that I mean the message that says (assignable knob full), this is a VERY crucial thing that No one seem to talk about in the videos although it happens to me with almost every sound that I try to mess around with. I kinda found my way through this by reading a lot of complicated articles and discussions over the Yamaha synth forum but still I’m getting confused sometimes specially when I try to import super knob assignments from different parts when layering them together.
    It would be much appreciated for us users if you can do a real life example of layering sounds or assigning splits with different sounds and importing their assign knobs into the new performance.

      Hi Hangar and thanks for the nice words, this video is definitely not promotional, I had so many people asking me that question. The super Knob is extremely powerful but if course there's a limit on what you can do. Usually, presets have a ton of assignments. With the super Knob you h can have up to 128. If a patch uses all of these then you can delete the ones you don't need and add your own. But the sound designers usually tend to want to take advantage of as many assignments as possible that's why on complex patches it's full already :)

    I don't know if it is related, but I'm using an arpeggio in a performance, and there is an lfo on the part cutoff, open and close the cutoff. I want to switch off the lfo, but f@k, I don't find it anywhere. Maybe there's is a built in motion sequence in the arpeggio? How can I switch it off? Any advice would appreciate. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Dom, thanks a lot for your usefull video tutorials. Often I have to watch them several times to fully understand what you are doing :-).
    You say in this video that you loaded a dx7 sound. Can you make a tutorial too about loading and managing sounds and the storage structure on the Montage? I can load libraries in my Montage, but I would like to be able to load a single sound/performance instead of a complete library. Is that possible? Thanks in advance.

    • @DomSigalas
      @DomSigalas  Před 5 lety +1

      You just need to change the polarity of the curve so that instead of up it starts from all the way up and goes down for one of the parts ;)

    Hi Dom,
    great video, as always :-)
    please can you tell us, how did you get the touchscreen-picture captured and routed to an video-output ?
    For an example i wish i could connect an LCD-/TFT-Screen to the Montage to get a better view in the studio for programming etc.
    this is still not documented by Yamaha.
    thanks a lot
    and go on !

      @DomSigalas  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi Marc, unfortunately there's not an 100% reliable way to do this I am afraid so wouldn't suggest spending money on equipment unless you have a way to try it. Trust me, it can be frustrating. Your best bet would be visiting the forums at Yamahasynth.com and check success stories from users. Even my setup can be temperamental :)

    I can't tell what you are talking about , what are operators? what is a curve? You picked a sound with lots of release time to show reverb changes? Couldn't hardly tell any change. The only thing I got out of this was you can assign a param change to the super knob. What's the difference between that and any other knob?

  • @RonaldRademaker

    Rotery effect assign to superknop how does this work?

    • @DomSigalas
      @DomSigalas  Před 5 lety +1

      You just need to assign the rotary speed parameter to the Super Knob. Rotary Speaker is an insert effect :)

  • @YotamPiano

    Man, I use my DX7II as a preset machine and a stompbox effect pedal. I wish it had more edit ability but the montage seem to big and intimidating. I initially thought of getting the 8 and selling my DX7 but that thing is unproportionally huge!!! And there is not time to actually play it, it's basically a computer more than it is an instrument. I like tactile stuff. Awww

    • @DomSigalas
      @DomSigalas  Před 6 lety +1

      Hahaha maybe the Montage 6 is your medicine? It's a great size that the one I have ;)

    • @YotamPiano
      @YotamPiano Před 6 lety +1

      Dom Sigalas Music haha DomI was thinking of the 7, I am only reluctant because Im afraid the montage wont vibe like my vintage DX7 (I make 80s not modern).. I was wondering whether it had the great Yamaha keybed of the DX7 which even as plastic synth key had somr weighted feeling to it. And in addition, whats the difference in the AWM2 of the older motif and the newer montage? IIRC even the sy-77 had both engines and it came out in the 90s? Thanks Dom

    • @DomSigalas
      @DomSigalas  Před 6 lety +1

      I have the Motif XF8 and the Montage 6 and this combination is killer. If I didn't have the Motif I would go for the 8 :) Now that the Montage can load all the legacy ROM from pretty much all Yamaha FM synths you can go as 80's as you want. Seriously, the sounds translate perfectly on the Montage, it just gives you more options for sound design (more operators, different waveforms) and real-time control ;)

    • @YotamPiano
      @YotamPiano Před 6 lety +1
