Interesting analysis. It can be very useful for creating your own villains in your own stories. Poor Touya had no chance with a father like his.

    Great explanation
though i would like to add a few things i disagree with you, be carefull for the manga spoilers in this comment
1- todoroki family was never normal happy family. they were living a lie at first. endeavour only made a child to surpass allmight. the only time he spend with touya was with his training. of course touya would look happy because a child wouldnt know it wasnt normal. but connecting your child only for training, never caring for their dreams or desire, giving them conditional love is also abuse. touya was abused since the beginning.
2- before shouto was born, touya was already breaking down because endeavour pretty much abandonded his child because of his wuirk disability. he completely get out of his life emotionally and touya slowly realized that he was being replaced by his siblings. shouto s born was just happen to be his mentalbreakdown. endeavour didnt care about touya enough to help touya mentally because his ambitions was above on well beig of his family. he only made natsuo and shotu oto replace touya, endeavoru never intented to be parent and used his family as some kind of experiment. later of course touya would try to be anythign endeavour will want and well yeah we know how it ended.
3- touya didnt just become villain after he burned to death. first thign he does when he woke up from coma was apologise to rei and others and go back to home. he hoped that endeavıur changed after his death, even small change but the fact that touya s death didnt change him was the final break for him to change dabi. thats when he became a villain to destroy his abuser
4- dabi s story is parallel with freinkeinstein story and here s the thing. dabi is not just monster or gone either. he is still touya, just extremely traumatized. dabi sand league of members showed that they are still human who still can capable of caring about others. they just need help from heroes but it wont be easy, well, it shouldnt be. dabi and every members of league care about each others and there is hope for them. they are not just monsters. society just want to see them that way so they can destroy people like dabi without remorse but they are wrong.

Honestly, the only reason I'm not on Touya's side here is because of the killing and stuff like that. Aside from that, I can't act like Endeavor didn't deserve to be called out.

also my partner has that second thing down to a T.
Their school, (1st through 8th in a special ed school) was a social hierarchy run by mentally and emotionally disabled 8th graders. My partner ran the school, at least from the students pov, once they got to 8th grade, because they grew up in that abusive and bullied environment, where their teachers physically abused them, their classmates bullied them, and they had no friends. The only way they survived and adapted was to become a bully. Fight back against their teacher's physical abuse, make their bullies scared to cross them, by being emotionally and mentally manipulative.
I think the song 'I am moana' from 'moana' has a perfect line that describes this:
"The people you love will change you, the things you learn will guide you"
    That is so true.

This is misattributing Touya's shift to Dabi as something brought about by Endeavor calculated actions. Endeavor is no saint, and his action in how he handled Touya could have been better, but he didn't do anything of these things to Dabi (unless there's one shot or LN that I missed that says he did.) Endeavor was supportive of Touya all the way up to the point in which his quirk started burning him. He never was shown to praise him only during training and the two had a pretty normal relationship. Of course the expectations he had for Touya were a lot, but it wasn't ever indicated that manipulation was involved to get him to do it. And when Touya's quirk started to hurt him, Endeavor didn't try to have another kid immediately, he focused on trying to get Touya to stop for his own sake. It wasn't until Endeavor was basically pushed to his limit that he had Natsuo and Shoto to try and get Touya to give up. Again, Endeavor is no saint, but the only real messed up thing he did was having Touya at all. Beyond that his actions, while not all defensible, were basically out of desperation. Touya became Dabi because he was unable to give up on his fathers dream for him and became obsessed with it, and while some blame is with Endeavor for giving him that dream, its ultimately Touya who was unwilling to think of his own well being or listen to anyone else and live a life outside of being a hero.

      Manga spoilers
Dont proceed if ur an anime only
Touya's shift to Dabi wasnt only bcuz he was ignored and didn't want think of himself in the recent manga chapter It was reaveled that after surviving the fire incident where he was literally burnt into a crisp he still wanted to go back home and apologize to his family only to see his father abusing his lil bro and practically moving on from him as a whole....3 years passed but he saw that even his own "death" wasn't enough for his father to finally change and give up on surpassing All Might
But Dabi also no saint tho he killed ppl nevertheless
his actions are justfied but his reasonings are understandable

      @CometX-ing Před rokem +8

@@sammakshaira6487 We know the reason why Endeavor continued to push his goal of surpassing All Might on to Shoto was because after Touya’s “death” he felt like he couldn’t stop having after he had “killed” Touya. Its also not like Touya was going back to reconcile. He went back hoping to see that Endeavor had given up training Shoto, not because of any concern for his safety, but because he saw doing so as invalidating his own existence. When he saw that Endeavor kept training him, he continued to take it as Endeavor deeming him a failure and discarding him. Touya was obsessed with fulfilling Endeavors dream up until he saw that Endeavor was still pushing it onto Shoto even after his “death.” He didn’t want Endeavor to give up completely, he hoped that Endeavor could see him as the rightful one to fulfill his dream again. Being made to face the reality that he wasn’t lead him to come up with any conclusion he could to rationalize it even as a young child. What made him become Dabi was that the reality he built for himself where Endeavor was just trying to replace him because he was a failure and where anyone who didn’t take his side was against him drove him insane.

@@CometX-ing what he wanted was to mean something. Touya always just wanted to be something to Enji, so when he stopped being his masterpiece, as he puts it, he spirals. Endeavor, *FULLY AWARE* of what touya needs chooses to actively avoid the situation and keep throwing out excuses on why he couldn’t, why he shouldn’t and really just shifting the blame on the majority of everyone else instead of him. We already know that he was violent towards Shouto and Rei even before touya died, it just escalated.
Also, lets not forget that he told Rei that he wanted to keep having kids to, not only surpass All Might, but to get Touya to stop. Translation: Hey wife, we need to keep having kids because I don’t know what else to do to stop our child who just wants to be acknowledged by me and obviously I can’t to do that-that’s your job- so lets keep having kids to make a really strong power so its clear to Touya that he couldn’t possibly do anything so he stops training. Kinda manipulative.
Back to touya. Yes, Enji wasn’t pulling Touya’s strings, but he did actively push Touya away and thats really harmful for a child who just wants their parents to simply acknowledge them. So, when Touya goes home, sees his father training Shouto very violently and his shrine, he felt like his death, and therefore his life, meant nothing so he decides that he’s going to make his dad and his family finally acknowledge his existence. No matter what.
We know that his family never got over his death, but he doesn’t. And i think thats the true tragedy of Dabi. So while not intentionally, Endeavor and outside forces, mostly Endeavor, lets not be wrong here, shoulders the majority of blame of Touya’s death and Dabi’s existence is on him.
Hope this didn’t come off rude! You had really good points! I dont want to argue or anything! Have a good one!

I completely disagree with you. Endeavor did train Toya because Toya had a powerful quirk. Toya wanted to be a hero, a fighter at a very early age. When Toya's quirk did not meet Endeavor's expectations he completely abandoned Toya. We can see that in the manga that Endeavor didn't even spend time with Toya and he was just fully focused on surpassing All Might by having more kids. Endeavor was very selfish in prioritising his needs before his son's needs. And Endeavor making another child to replace his own child is EXTREMELY messed up.
Endeavor did not even teach Toya to cool his flames down. That's how little he truly cared for Toya. And when he thought Toya was dead he just continued his own goals and compared how inferior and weak Toya was to Shoto. Endeavor didnt give a shit about Toya and treated Toya much worse than than his own wife. Toya has EVERY right to be angry and vengeful at Endeavor. No parent should neglect a child much less replace a child with another child.

And i'd also like some form of conclusion at the end, something more than just "yeah i just told you how to basically manipulate someone, thats it bye" y know. Idk just overall feels short and lacking in information, not all of us have seen all of my hero academia, etc so.
