General question to all: Who think the new Octavia has a better looking than the Golf 8?!
I've personally always liked the Octavia since it came out. Finally on the home stretch to owning one like this but in blue. Though the SE rather than top of the line SEL, still can't wait though.

You know what, they have absolutely nailed it with the design this new generation. The A3 is the same as the old on the outside, better on the inside, the Golf is worse in both, gosh - far worse; this and the Leon though, beautiful.

Leon is very generic, especiaslly on the outside, Audi actually looks great on the outside and totally hideous inside, Golf is no longer handsome but it's still noticeably quieter than Octavia. And in some markets - cheaper.
@@TheKruxed Oh yes, definitely. The old one was too underdesigned for my taste. The Golf 7.5 is the type I like, I think the new A3 with the separation between driver and the passenger. It is like the combination of Golf 7.5 (integrated screen, great controls) and Passat B8 (great grill design).
The interior material quality of the new A3 is no where near the same level as the previous cost cutting due to dieselgate
I am having a 2019 octavia and its a beauty. But this one is just Hot.... well done Skoda.
Do you think the rear sit will fit someone 6'5"? Because rear seats look exactly same on this one

Your reviews are in a class of their own. In fact, after seeing this review, I tried and bought an Octavia Coupe Style 2.0 TDI 150 hp DSG.

Meanwhile, I am waiting the last 3 out of 8 months for delivery.
They nailed the styling this generation, definitely the best looking out of the 4 siblings. But - that touch screen still tries to kill you because you have to use it to adjust totally everything, noise insulation could've been better and the new Octavia is a tad too expensive. Here in Poland Golf is a bit cheaper.
Here in Italy they are about the same price but you get way more options in the Octavia for the same price and with the dealer prices you can get a dynamic pack Octavia with the 7 speed dsg and almost full optional for the price of a base Golf 8 (25k€ vs the golf's base price of 26-27k€) so here it makes so much sense
I think this car would do well in South Africa. The quality and design is superb and not to mention that it's compact mid fastback.👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
Thank you Thomas, your review has made me choose my new car Octavia!!. Keep up the good work. The fact the new Octavia had a spare tyre is a great incentive. Thank Lord there giving you an option now. This vehicle is a based on 70% VW Golf and 30% Audi spec but a fraction of the cost. Why wouldn’t you have one?
I really like the Skoda Octavia. It is practical (especially as a station wagon and hatchback), modern and humble in a sensible way. However, it is not cheap anymore and that makes it more difficult for the model in today's market and especially in relation to the trend with SUVs. Still, I like the Skoda Octavia for what it is and think that you can not really go wrong with the model if you just want a sensible, good and relatively affordable family car. Great review :)
Keep up the great work Thomas. This is the best place to be when you realy need to spend your hard earned money on a car. All other reviewers try to copy Top Gear in some way.
There should be a usb type c socket for dashcams near the rearview mirror

Strange, I find the side profile extremely unproportioned and almost ugly.
The rest of the car is nicely designed.

As always its a good video but i feel it would make things more interesting with more variety.
Would it be possible to test cars like the honda Jazz or something different like a Lexus LS you have tested so many cars based on the same platform as this skoda like golf, a3, leon including the octavia wagon as you mentioned at the start......some of the cars you have done multiple videos on for example Golf 8 you have done 5 videos.
1. A big LIKE for the review (Thomas & Team). All my expectations were met.
2 A Like for this car as I know very, very well what Skoda is capabile of. The only critic for the new Octavia is that grey fabric on the dashboard, as it looks nice but it risks to catch dirt and to become full of dirt marks, and the missing phisical buttons for volume control and A/C, I mean cilindric buttons.
The steering wheel looks nice. Not as nice as the ore on Honda E or Jazz (the nrw Jazz).
Thomas does the best car reviews period.

Safety reasons. Some cars now are abandoning the hydraulic stuff for pedestrian safety
@@carlosvales8697 Bullshit. it was cost cutting plain and simple (same with many other features in the Golf), pretty much every premium car uses it, only the cheaper ones don't.
hydraulic is safer and not prone to failure often, hence why pretty much every car boot uses it.

One other thing. There are different shortcuts for the touch bar. And there should be an option to change the temperature. You double-tap and then move across with 2 fingers. So you don't have to use the screen for increasing / decreasing the climate

A note on Lane Assist: All new generation VW group cars do not keep the car in the center of the lane unless Travel Assist is activated

Left a/c vent is blowing in your face, center one blowing in your knee.
Oh wait, you can't properly adjust the left vent either.
Basic comfort was sacrificed for a tablet.

What are the differences with the 2020 model ?
I think it is a quite nice car for overall but what do you think about its sound insulation if you compare with the previous model?
Almost same as golf 7, i’ve tested decibels. Above 150km/h there is more noise from side windows on higher frequencies, probably rearview mirrors. There is option of a front acoustic windows. Hope will lower it a bit.

Leather gets too hot when the sun's on it in the summer and bloody freezing in the winter. Cloth is much more comfortable
The best everyday man car
I have a 2014 mrk 3 octavia . It’s a great car a work horse. I know am getting old because I am not a fan of automatic handbrakes and all this touch screen technology also I believe the rear windscreen wiper is an option which is daft in a country like England were it should be standard with all are wet weather. I will probably keep my mrk 3 octavia for a good while yet
Hi, did Thomas enabled the adaptive lane assist to keep the car in the center? I have the facelift Octavia and there you need to enable this feature. Otherwise you just have the lane assist that "bounces" the car between the lanes.
Hi, this is not a fair comparison but if you had to choose between an octavia saloon and a VW troc, which one would you advise ? Assuming both are on the 1.5 tsi. Please advice

center A/C outlet so low, it can only freeze the hands.
Europe has hot hays, too.. and in hot climate countries, all new European cars loose points over that design flaw trend, caused by the desire for big infotainment screen that is placed inline, not up like previous generation designs.

Thomas, this looks quite a bit like my 2020 VW Jetta! VW also shares window lift buttons on their Bentley's with their Passats! LOL At least they did back in 2008. Nothing wrong with VW products, I have owned at least 12 of them since 1984. I'm sure this is a nice car. Great review Thomas, you literally are the finest on YT. So many other idiots around here. LOL! I will add, the interior of this Octavia is much higher class and quality than my new Jetta. This is upscale for sure.

I currently have the petrol vRS and it’s a great car. The styling looks to have moved on, certainly won’t age quickly and looks very modern from the back. Any news when the vRS is coming?
Also a petrol RS owner, pre-facelift. I’m hoping to move into a mark IV Octavia RS in a year or so. Like the new styling, interior and exterior. Everything seems to be improved, and I am happy with almost everything in the mark III already.
Tony Morris hopefully pricing will be announced soon. I believe the new model starts production September, following next year will be the RS versions

Kinda weird you don't know the difference between a hatchback and a sedan? In a hatchback the rear window is part of the the trunk 'door'.. And is called 5 door. In a sedan it isn't and is called a 4 door.
all matter of definition. The body style from the outside is a sedan. In the German market this here is called Limousine which would be the sedan.

Great review but since Thomas asked for feedback. I live in mountains or hilly areas (Berg auf Deutsch :D) and i never saw review to hill assistant in manual gearbox. I say this because i in Portugal i have a Corsa and in traffic with hills 8% is really complicated to start without a lot of effort for clutch + accelerator (being a 1.0 170 NM does not help much). I saw the button A in this skoda and i wonder how is the help. I really liked on Golf 1.6 TDI

Ich denke, es ist ein viel versierteres Auto als der Golf oder der Jetta. Die ergonomische Oberfläche scheint viel besser zu sein.
I agree that the last headlights were awful but these are still not as handsome as the pre-facelift headlights. I don't like where the shiny black part of the grill, the silver grill and the lights meet. It's so untidy.

In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which exact body part you would be murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse?
The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination.
For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car.
In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. And if you want the slick look or something to wipe clean easier, that is possible with animal free leatherette.
Using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all it is just common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.
@@autogefuehl Leather isn't the problem. It is *billions* of people wanting a car with leather. The best thing for the environment is not to procreate. Instead of 1-3 kids I have a 400hp roadster with genuine leather and I absolutely don't feel bad about it.
you could also just have a 400 hp roadster with high-quality leatherette and get the same feeling and quality :-)
@@autogefuehl I drive my cars at least 20 years. Synthetic leather would not last as long as genuine leather. With synthetic leather the whole seat must be replaced at least once (which would be less environmentally friendly).
