At 13:30 is reported that LIFTBACK SEDAN has 21.1 cubic feet or 600 liters of trunk or boot space. This is a TOP 500 SEDAN, which belongs to the select group of those whow have more than 500 liters of capacity in its trunk or boot and I'm going to put this video on my decents sedan playlist!

This is what the Jetta GLI should be in the US market! Hopefully one day.
VW in North America is an embarrassment. They have an identity crisis. In my mind they were never Honda, Toyota, or Nissan competitors, they were a value proposition to the luxury German brands while still maintaining the German DNA. They have made their vehicles so cheap trying to compete they have lost it.

I remember reading that ford UK was unhappy about skoda calling their performance edition RS since they call their cars the same, so they started calling them vRS

Wow!! What I really love about your reviews is that I never gets bored regardless of how long it is. I’m sure your co-passengers enjoy having you in the driver’s seat. Isn’t it? Also I love the traffic sense at your place. It’s always nice to have people following traffic rules and respecting everyone on the street be it pedestrians, bikers, four wheelers etc.
As for this Octavia, love the car and a bit envious that you guys got the first hand drive of this car way before us in India. In fact, we haven’t yet received the facelifted Octavia. The old VRS 245 is still on sale here with a whopping price tag. Sad. And I guess, we might not get the new vRS 245 until next year. Too depressing.
Though, I’d still want you to come to India someday and, perhaps, checkout some cars here regardless of you having tested them much before in your country.

I fell in love with the Octavia VRS after a couple trips to Europe. Obvioulsy I would rather own a Leon Cupra if we are looking at all Audi group products, but something about the VRS is very appealing. I think it is the total lack of pretension.
This car hits the sweet spot of practicality and performance for me... This will be my next car. In estate and manual.
Hatch and auto(no manual available) for me . From India . Will be launched soon here . Excited.

from quality perspective this is Golf 8 GTI killer IMHO
It is golf 8. Its structure is same as golf 8, but made to look like sedan style with just a little bit more space inside. Great cars and great price for what you get. I dont get people who talk shit about these cars, but has a golf. I mean literally those are the same cars with same quality and same price hahah

Try to sit in back car when a guy with 2 meter height comes in to a driver seat. Cut with the bullshit bro :D It always depends who is in front of you and how does he sit... Its not a bmw 7 or mercedes S class long version. Where you have space in back even tho big guy is a driver. These are middle class cars and thats all.

But the quality is same. Thats why I said I dont know why people shit on Skoda Octavias, and drive Golf. I drive octavia 2019 and sat in golf 7, I am almost 190 cm tall, and really you cant compare those cars. Not saying that Golf is bad but I would compare Octavia more to the Audi A4, not a golf. But thats my opinion :P

Motor manufacturers seem to think that we want all these driving assistance systems. I occasionally find ordinary cruise control useful, but I'm certainly not about to allow software to take over when I'm close to other traffic or to the edge of the lane. The problem with such systems is that they are ultra cautious and start interfering before it is really necessary - so annoying when driving.
just skip them when config the car; I always do

Did you have acoustic front windows, cause it's really quiet? I've heard above 150 km/h, a lot of noise from side windows on normal octavia.

Tha "hardware" is 100% (my favorite manufacturer, make and model), the software can be upgraded. So basically there's no >real< downside to this car. A great review Thomas!
The letters for a car with 'RS' were under license in the UK to Ford only. That's why Škoda had to go with vRS and Renault had to use RenaultSport when they're both known as RS versions elsewhere.

Great review as always. I really wish you could get this petrol version with AWD. Also is there a way to keep this permanently in manual mode? In the previous model when you used the padels it would default back to auto after a set amount of time but if you moved the gear stick to the side it wouldn't default back.

Loving your reviews, it would be nice to see a comparison test between sport and normal modes when you push it a bit
The lane assist will only keep the car centered when you activate the travel assist (top right button on the steering wheel). This is a common feature on all new VWs and Skodas
Great vid as always. The car when launched in the U.K. around 2001 was advertised and launched as the RS. I had one. Soon after, I believe there was a dispute about the naming rights with Ford, and it became the VRS. Not 100% sure on the last point but 100% sure it’s not always been VRS in the U.K.

One small remark about the line assist, your version did not obviously have travel assist, just simple line asisst (it bounces between the line, and stops the car when you are not reacting) wheras upgraded version called travel assist keep in the lane in the center (event futher to the right of the lane)
They can't call it RS in the UK due to Ford owning the RS trademark
i dont get why they must call it RS in UK instead of ST as the rest of the world. America just proving they can do whatever they want unfortunately

Thomas, thank you. Excellent review. Was interesting to hear about driving aspects: steering precision, dynamics, breaking, suspension stiffness... maybe one aspect I didn't hear: how transparent is acceleration pedal (mean if there is no noticeable delay between pressing pedal and acceleration)?
Ford RS stands for Rally Sport. Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 4x4, Escort RS2000 mk2, Escort RS Mexico mk1&2.
I can't see myself accepting all electric buttons and lag. As a current RS driver I'll be moving away from Skoda/VW. Also not a fan of the axle tramp that occurs far too often in the Mk7/5E range which I assume isn't fixed.

I feel you, recently i bought a new octavia 1,5 tsi, I love it but I find it frustrating that if I leave the a/c open and I turn off the engine, the next time I turn on there will be lag in the screen for a couple of minutes and I can't access the a/c controls for those few minutes. To avoid this, I always turn off the a/c before I leave the car. Besides this, it's a really nice and comfortable car. I have the style edition and I really enjoy the driving mode selection and the cool interior.
@@Venakis1 yes, had the O2 1.9TDI for 10Y was my first car, it was great. I wish I waited 1Y and bought the O4 RS TDI wagon. Skoda needs to go its own way and not copy all the crap from VW.
Thank you for that review, most informative but no surprises there. I too aren't keen on the touch screen controls especially for heater and radio however I know the radio is also on the steering wheel and just as well. I live in New Zealand and have the previous RS manual 2L petrol and love this car, its actually my wife's drive until the weekend or on trips and it ticks all boxes including of course value for money. Other thing is that in NZ it is getting hard to buy a manual and Skoda NZ have just told me that they are bringing the manual to NZ, I believe a lot of prospective buyers have been applying a lot of pressure towards that outcome. I wouldn't buy the DSG, nothing wrong with it of course but just not for me. Thanks again, cheers, Jim

Great review Thomas! I always appreciate your reviews, very detail orientated and balanced critique of every vehicle you review. Love the new Skoda Octavia. It is good you pronounce the name in observance of the vehicles heritage and make a distinction between VRS and RS. Not sure why the naming convention is different in different countries, I think vehicle identity trumps tailoring geographic brand recognition between the UK and Germany. They should stick to one name and since Volkswagen produces the VRS I guess the Germans have it. I do not like simple basic controls like the fan and climate control within the infotainment system. I never see the sense in making something harder to operate or get to particularly whilst driving from an ergonomic and safety point of view. It's a silly trend, make an easy practical manual control option.Otherwise overall a great value for money everyday performance car.

The fact that the mode selector now only brings up the modes on the screen but no longer circles through the modes, combined with the fact that the car probably also always powers up in normal mode due to regulatory standards is a shame.

Thomas, when you use lane assist on VW group cars, mainly skodas, in settings you always have to check on which level is it set to assist you, and probably on this octavia it was set to "late" interaction and probably not checked box something similar to keep the car in center between the lines....I have seen in some previous autogefull reviews you had problems with this assistant system, and I'm having this settings on kodiaq
I rather the estate. I have the Octavia estate. The car looks good and the performance is very good too. In Australia we have poor service support problems. It is time for me to change cars and while I would like to get another Skoda I think I will be going to Hyundai N line as the service reputation is more positive.
Which one to choose: Octavia RS 245 DSG or Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.0 200 KM AT8 - the same price, but Skoda has better equipment.

This is what the Golf 8 should’ve been. It’s still a bit of a shame that there are no physical climate controls, however at least there’s a dedicated climate menu button.
My Ford CMax had Torque Vector Control it limit engine power when I was going round small roundabouts.

Great review. Just one question, can you still go into sports mode via the gear shift switch pulled back like you used to be able to do on the DSG with the lever, than rather scroll through the interface. Which by the time you have got into sport the moment maybe over. Thanks again great review.
You can use the gear shift selector to switch only the gearbox into sport mode, but it is not the actual sport driving mode you have as a drive profile (which includes other settings such as suspension, steering, engine sound etc.)
Thanks for that awesome review? Do you think the fully digital models will encounter system bugs and software issues? I've been to the dealership twice already and this is my last concern, especially for the future resell value of the car. Any thoughts and opinions on the reliability of smart systems like the ones in the Octavia PRO?
Well they do receive software updated, the most recent one did improve the system a lot. Not the best one still, but now better usable.
@@autogefuehl i kept looking for answers on this issue and found many owners having bad experiences with system bugs, lane assist failure, park assist failure and faulty software updates, so we chose to keep looking at other options. Thanks again for the detailed and excellent review!

VW North America needs to take note. Our VW offering here is terrible these days. We aren’t even getting the Golf 8. I would love to see Autogefühl review the North American Jetta or Atlas, they would be horrified.

all about upload bandwidth. We can produce 4K for years, but internet bandwidth in Germany and in spots where we film all over Europe (in non-corona times) is very limited.

You say Velvet Red is a EU600 option in Germany. Here in the UK it's £975 or EU1092. Ouch !
Although the touch climate control is horrible it is atleast a step above from the mk8 golf sliders.

I just placed order for RS Octavia with Canton system, but I did not have chance to listen to it before order, test car did not have that option..

Thanks for caring! I don't think so. As far as my research and experience goes, the base sports seats (at least in Germany) are animal free, but the upgraded ones with micro fibre do contain animal leather parts. Do you have any source?

Also for this thread: I re-checked with Skoda. The optional microfibre sports seats do mainly contain animal skin leather as for the slick surfaces sadly :(

Yeah except for the horsepower, speed, engine, premium feel, torsion Quattro, huge wheels, 4 zone climate, and the fact than its a wagon, they're pretty similar.
Yes I'm joking the Octivia has pretty much nothing in common with the A6 let alone the RS6
The closest Skoda you can get to an RS6 is the Superb 280tsi Sportline Estate 4x4 (Haldex AWD). From factory these can more or less keep up with a type R in a straight line (under 6 seconds to 60 so in damp icy or loose surface conditions the AWD will give you the jump) and give A6 rivaling interior space.
These engines are basically the previous gen Golf R/ Leon Cupra unit and can be stage 1 tuned to 360 bhp. There are examples kicking around that have been more heavily modded with 500+ bhp.
It's not an RS6 but they cost around £40K in the UK so a great package for the money.
