Longtail mud motors have abilities and challenges. One of those is the ability to turn the boat around within its own length, making what seems like a cumbersome unwieldy unit more manuverable than conventional outboards.

Use the longtail like an oar. You can get out of some very tight spots like this. You can do this with the motor running or without. This makes longtail mud motoring so easy. Often at the boat docks people see me wheeling around like this. The light goes off, Whoah that makes so much sense."
Most people look at the longtail and assume it will be difficult to run and handle when the longtail gives leverage in way a conventional outboard cannot.
I hope to keep these longtail lessons coming. Let me know what you think.

I would like to thank you for your videos on your motor. Though there are a lot of videos out there, they are mainly one view of a ride. Yours shows different angles and though i am very mechanically inclined; your videos intrigue me some how on a hands on level. keep them coming.

When you use one oar it is called "sculling". Just a little trivia for you!

I can't vouch for the Mud Skipper brand. I've never used them. I'm using Swamp Runner longtail from SPS North America.
My initial thoughts is it looks like a motor made for Americans who don't understand how longtails work, something designed to fit inside their idea of what an outboard should be.
I'd rather have the longtail because it's a proven design that has been around for 50 or 60 years. There's a learning curve with longtails, but many don't want take the time to learn something new.
As far as longtail the only one I have experience with is SPS. Looking at the basic differences in the design, I'd rather stick with SPS longtail.

Check the MudMotorTalk.com forums. There should be people there who have bought one.
