    Even though my longtail unit is dialed in, it still rises just a bit at wide-open-throttle causing a barely noticeable porpoising effect. Here's what to do about it.

    Nestle your knee under the handle, and that's usually all you need to keep your prop down. You could also add a mountain bike handle extension to make two-handed control easier, thus applying upward pressure on the handle always.
    When resting your hand atop the handle, you'll leverage the prop. upward. Hydrodynamic forces takes care of the rest. You really need to lift up on the handle as you're motoring.
    Normally I cruise at nine miles-per-hour. It's about 3/4 throttle, so it saves gas and eliminates the slight porpoising.

    I've found this method a while back when running 60 miles of River in on day, was gonna start a series of videos on tips like this but looks like you beat me to it 😂

      +Danny Giles I think you should go ahead and do it. Every person has a different way of explaining things. Someone else might understand the way you explain it better. I say go ahead and start your series on the same topic. It's fine. The internet is an open place.

    what do you connect that rope on the handle to in the boat?

    • @BlackWarriorLures
      @BlackWarriorLures  Před rokem +1

      Mine was tied to the frame. There was a little space between the frame and the runners to tie a rope.

    Just be careful using your knee like that. If you hit a stump or rock and kick up the prop, that tiller handle can give you quite a hit. If your prop continually rides up, you may want to adjust the balance or add a planing tab.

    Hi. I'm thinking of getting the same setup for my 12' Jon. Is it hard to keep it in the water by just using your hand or does it just take little pressure. I'm interested in making long trips. By the way. I live near the black warrior also. In Tuscaloosa.

      +Nick Jones It stays underwater just fine, because it's balanced. The prop rides in the crest of the wake. Cruising at 3/4 throttle it's perfect, no added pressure needed. At wide open throttle it ride higher, but if you add more pressure you'll get and extra 2 miles per hour out of it. So having it rest on your knee gets you and extra couple miles per hour in open water. Or just use a smaller prop.

      +Black Warrior Lures I fish Blue Creek most of the time, we could meet up there, and you can see for yourself. Right now I'm building this motor, so I probably won;t be fishing for the next little bit until I get this motor built, hopped up, and broken in.

      Thanks. I don't don't have a motor at all right now so I won't be heading out in the near future. I hope to be ready before the end of summer thought got to save up a little. Lol

      +Nick Jones Yeah, they're well worth it even if you run bone stock. $600 gets you a 6.5 hp motor, new. You can work on it yourself and hot-rod it just like a 350 small block. That ain't bad.

      +Black Warrior Lures that's not bad for that price.

    Wonder how a surface piercing prop would work on that?

    • @BlackWarriorLures
      @BlackWarriorLures  Před 8 lety

      +Ratdog 305 Well, it is a surface piercing prop, but it rides in the crest of the wake behind the boat. If it gets too high it will slip and loose thrust.

    Is that a barge you went by?

      @BlackWarriorLures  Před 8 lety

      +UPGardenr Yeah, there are barges all up and down the Black Warrior. I'm always nervous about drifting down the middle of the channel like I do.
