This depiction is rather similar to the imagery used for the Angel of Death, as well as resembling the common iconography behind the Grim Reaper and the more modern visages of Death.
I am sort of of the feeling that those are simply made up for artistic license. If they are real heiroglyphics by all means, but it seems to me they likely aren't.
It isn't, she just replaced the english letters with hieroglyphs perhaps using one of those shitty hieroglyphs convertors in the internet, none of that is actual ancient egyptian
The hieroglyphs are real but it isn't in Egyptian. They simply wrote out the English lyrics in hieroglyphic script using one-consonant phonetic signs. Still a really nice little piece of attention to detail. The animator did a phenomenal amount of research into Ancient Egyptian society and culture and it really shows, obviously the Exodus story itself is not true, but the historical backdrop was very artfully and accurately presented.
Besides from telling the whole story of the escape from Egypt, I feel like there is a lot of deep symbolism in this that I do not get. Like for example: ancient Egypyian paintings are always profiles, as they thought seeing the whole face would mean the painting would come to life. Moses, Aron and Death are not side profiles. And the burning bush (god) has leaves that switch between eyes and mouths. There is probably a lot more detailes I missed. Edit: the middle part where the firstborns are dying and goes to the eternity, there are a lot of references to the Egyptian religion and view of death.

@@daniele7989 thats very wrong, while "God" himself is grammaticaly male in hebrew, since there are no gender-neutral nouns and pronouns in their language, there are aspects of God that are grammaticaly female, like the Spirit of God, and also the Shekhinah, both refered as she/her. this also reverberates in Christianity, in some languages God the Holy Spirit is grammaticaly female as well. However grammatical gender does not indicate actual gender. Doctrinally in both Judaism and Christianity God as a whole has no gender, neither male or female.

The amount of effort that went into this is absolutely incredible. Although I can't say I expected a Moses story that entirely leaves out Miriam, Zipporah, Jethro, and the crossing of the Red Sea but makes sure to include the time Moses made the people who worshipped the golden calf drink the gold dust! And I wonder why the whole golden calf story was framed in terms of gender? Apis (the most likely referent of the calf) was a male god in the Egyptian pantheon.
This is just half of the full film, the movie is a parody and includes a goddess, the implied premise is that the male deity is violent, ruthless and wants to impossed himself over the world, and the female deity is benevolent and gives life to humanity, thats why all the fertily symbolism in the calf scene, so basically if abrahamic religions woud have been modeled after a deity with "female" principles the world woud have been a better place, thats kinda the vibe of the movie not really meant to be an accurate depiction of the bible
