you and Chris are at the stage of a relationship where you're 3 months in living together
Remember how Connor was so awestruck of Chris when Chris was first on Trash Taste? Now they just find ways to insult each other (albeit not in any hostile way).
Common Law? Dont tell Mouse!
When Connor mentioned he didn't get enough protein or carbs, I was waiting for Joey to turn into DR. JELLY!
DOKUTAH JELLY DA
I think the reason for Chris wanting more rest is the result of the first Journey across Japan when Chris nearly worked himself to death cycling where he didn’t get much sleep at all. He might be course correcting too much
yeah i think connors being insensitive here, considering that he just came out with a video about his health. I rather he make that priority than just another cycling video that none of them physically built themselves up for.
If they did a 4 or 5 hour sleep on one of those days they would have both been fkd for the rest of the week. Connor is a child. Streaming 144crap no stop is not the same as filming a video after a full day of cycling.
@@robspunk i belive he just is underestimating the change happening from mid twenty to 30. it's more severe than people like to admit. in a few years connor will get to feel himself just how much more limited your reserves get in just those few years.
@@jetomatsci4445 absolutely agree. In my mid 20's I've had 3-4 hour sleep, went through my day like nothing happened, including basketball training and then gym session. Now...32...even if i sleep 8 hours but turned around 3 times at night not 2 I'm fucked. Like my day is just fucked
From everything I’ve heard when Chris or other people mention his sleep pattern, it sounds a lot like delayed sleep pattern syndrome. It’s certainly not a matter of just going to bed earlier and makes it much harder to get up earlier. Even after a week of being forced to get up early, you won’t fall asleep any earlier, you’ll just get more and more tired and unable to function from the lack of sleep.
It's possible but he might just be a night owl. They account for around 10% of the population.
I love when people tell me to just go to bed earlier. Yea no shit. Don't you think I tried that? I just can't fall asleep.
For more context. After looking it up, it's apparently a problem you can't just fix by changing the timing of when you sleep to an earlier time. The circadian rhythm still might not acknowledge that it's time to sleep, so you're just lying down there and not sleeping.
Apparently bright light therapy (don't try this at home by yourself if you don't know how) is used to adjust the rhythm to a time that works for the person.
Wait. I might have this??? This is always how I've described my sleep situation
I'm able to go to sleep instantly, so weird so many people even within their sleep pattern schedule struggle to sleep
This really rings so true... I'm 30 in a few months, and when I was Connor's age or maybe a bit younger I was regularly surviving on 5 hours of sleep a night, then maybe 8 or 9 hours to catch up at the weekend. Whilst I'd struggle to initially get up, once I was up I'd be fine, and go as long as I need.
Then I got to about 27/28, and after 2 nights of 5 hours I'm on my knees and napping as soon as I finish work. Hell, during WFH I'd nap on my lunch break.
I've experienced this too. When I was 22-25, I used wake up at 6am, to cycle to and from work (1.7 miles), where there was this massively steep hill that I had to climb to get to my workplace (which was at the top of that hill and took me 2-4 months to fully clear without stopping), with a Dutch-style bike made of steel (super heavy) and with only 3 gears, work from 8am-5pm, and then go to the gym 3-4 times a week afterwards.
I'm currently 29, have poor sleep where I wake up most days before 5am, get up at 7am, and can barely cycle to my new workplace (2.2 miles), mostly on flat ground, without almost crying from exhaustion. I don't even attempt the gym anymore. As a woman, I think I have less energy than a man who would be the same age or older, so that's another thing to factor in.
Well it explains his half arsed work.
Wtf that’s literally me right now I nap as soon as i get home from school or work with 5 hours of sleep and I’m only 19😅. Future ain’t looking bright for me.
"You're not that much younger". I'm 33 and I for sure had more "energy reserves" when I was 27. 😆
It drops off fast! D:
To be fair, not being fully rested when doing such strenuous activity is also adding an unnecessary level of danger.
I think this is a case where both are right. Everyone functions differently. I'm more like Chris myself. Going to sleep earlier isn't a option for me, I'll just lay there struggling to fall asleep. I could function a couple days with less sleep, but that's for a regular day. Cycling near 100 km a day for 8 days, I'd struggle on day two.
The yelling at each other just seems like the norm between them lol In the end its all water under the bridge.
water under the fridge
You just see the minor age difference between Chris and Connor :'D
Just you wait Connor, when you're in your thirties, perspectives on the importance of sleep and health may change for some people. Can relate to Chris, I'd sleep in, too :'D
I kinda get where Chris could be coming from. I just call it being a night owl, but I'm in my 30s now and ever since high school I just could not fall asleep before midnight at earliest. I've tried, I just toss and turn. Even on days where I've gotten like 5 or 6 hours of sleep a night for the last week and it's been an exhausting day at work, I just can't go to bed earlier. I can tell it screws with my health and I hate it, but my brain just won't shut down to sleep. I think the only times I have a decent bedtime is when I'm sick as hell, and for a couple weeks after I'm better while my body heals. Then it's night owl business as usual.
I do feel where Connor is coming from though. Those roads were scary enough in the day, don't want to think about cycling after dark.
Connor developed the Batman mentality 11:37 😂
That first rainy day Connor was like a wet cat angry pissed about a bath.
Honestly one of the easiest ways to get in shape is to swim. It's one of the best forms of cardio and you use every part of your body to do laps. Also it keeps you moving constantly so long as you aren't hanging on the edge of the pool.
It's also less killer on your knees in the long run
im a fat lob and i find swimming the only enjoyable cardio exercise ever, like I find myself enjoying dying from trying to get air from just one lap and like I could keep this up for 4 hours, the only downside is that I find myself get very hungry from all that swimming
@@chaptereight3406 you're hungry because you burn so much energy. If you eat smaller meals you'll start losing weight real quick if you swim laps 3 times a week.
I can understand someone wanting enough time to sleep tbh. I'm Chris' age and have epilepsy so I need to get at least 7-8 hrs on average if I want to keep myself from seizing. It's made me respect people's need for sleep a bit more. Idk, /shrug, obviously doesn't sound like a big deal but just saying I can see how some people can definitely value sleep a lot more than others.
20yo spring chicken Connor young-splains being able to power through things to his elders.
I can understand why Chris does this. I've worked night shift for like 15yrs of my life and it messed me up badly and no matter if i wake up early a week or 2, it makes me worst.
There's a world of difference between 15 years and a week, though...
The British are just built for cycling. The Olympics speaks volumes about that.
We’re actually built to sit in a pub drink about 15 pints and eating pukka pies all day
French, Italians, and them are always competing.
Before they were built for cycling, they were near the bottom of the barrel. It wasn't until they changed their training program that they became as good as they are.
@@SuperUberGuber could still not defeat the Dutch in cycling (ok that's like saying you could defeat a 500 lb american in an eating competition)
There's something in that bean toast, I swear, there's a whole reddit thread about it
Just you wait, Connor. You'll be thinking like Chris once you hit 30. As someone over 30 myself I absolutely get how Chris thinks. No one in their 20s ever realizes just how much your body starts to degrade when you're hitting 30.
I’m mid 30s and my body is a trainwreck but I’m on team Connor with this one. Cycling in the dark on bad rural roads is ridiculous.
Unless you've got shit genetics like me with knee and shoulder issues already in your mid 20's. Things went downhill fast after 22 for me.
I have the same sleep issues as Chris and I can’t just go to bed earlier unless I’m really sleep deprived. I can’t dictate my work schedule so I can wake up later either. Would be nice.
From this story I gathered between the two of them they embody the generations, millennial and gen z
When I was 25 I could sleep 3 hours and be fresh, now I'm 31 and I feel like shit when I sleep 5 to 7 hours. I'm with Connor on this 🤣
I'm only 20 and I need 7 hours. Mainly because I swapped between 3rd shift and normal a ton for the past year. Though I did have a spree of three days with no sleep during my town's fair. Been a month and I'm still catching up it feels like.
Everyone is different. You have to recognize that sometimes
i'm 22 and i need almost 9 or over 9 hours of sleep lmao
This wasn't just "for the content", this was because Connor didn't want to ride at night lol
As someone who has sleep issues and hates waking up in the morning...I see where Chris is coming from. But he should have known going into the challenge that he was going to have to wake up early lol...cycling in the dark would have been a super stupid idea given how shitty those roads were even during the day. Plus how close Truck-Kun came to both of them...imagine that shit at night!
I mean to be fair Chris has actually cycled across Japan before so he at least knows a little of what he’s taking about
There is solution for riding in the dark, it is called having lights on the bike. This fear of the dark is irrational - it is about as dangerous as driving in the dark, and people do that every day without giving it a second thought.
@@mx2000 unless you have night blindness with an astigmatism like me, then it’s nearly impossible to drive at night
When it you add school and work to the mix, you either have too little sleep when you can barely sleep or too much when you over sleep and miss some important stuff
does anyone know where we can watch this? it's not on his main or second Channel, is there just vods or is there an edited version of it?
On the age thing, there is certainly a big difference between 26 and 32 in terms of one's physical capacity. Much bigger than between 20 and 26. Although I am healthier now than I was in my mid-twenties, I certainly need more sleep to recover from things. It is actually similar in terms of responsibility. In my mid-twenties, I could disappear on a hiking trip in the mountains (I hike rather than cycle) for a week and it was not a big issue. I now have more responsibilities, and if I say to work, family, the bank... etc, don't bother trying to contact me, it would not work.
I always find it quite fascinating that it's the 30-year-olds who outdo the 18-25-year-olds in triathlon. when it comes to sports, experience really prevails.
@@sayantanmazumdar3 I imagine it will be down to knowing how to train and pace one's self.
@@fat1fared, They are like supervised ML models. Just keep getting more precise with every participation.
5:20 As a 38yr old, 6yrs of age difference makes a world's difference in terms of your health and your day to day well-being. 30 is the very first year that serves as a threshold for your body experience major differences naturally. Obviously not everyone and timing can be different (e.g. age 31). Chris seems like the sort of person that has sleep issues, so it's even worse to simply suggest sleeping earlier. Every year after 30 compounds the problems or chances of problems if you haven't been taking care of yourself... sometimes even if you do. You're no longer going to experience the same youthful energy you had, both physically and mentally. That said, yes, for short spurts of time, it can work... usually.
Okay, I have to admit that I really like this podcast. I've known about each of these dudes for a while, but I was never a follower. But for some reason, I fell into watching their videos and they're great. Just great. I love how they let each other speak and the dynamic is just so fun between these guys. Idk man, I'm just really liking this podcast.
i usually perfer stacking up episodes for atleast a full workdays worth of trash taste podcast, but I happily spoiled myself with this clip
I'm only 24, and if I get less than 7 hours I shouldn't get behind a wheel, that's how bad it can be. I need 8.5-9hrs to function and feel alive. But I used to pull all-nighters all thru highschool so maybe that's why.
I'm a real early bird, and I truly have difficulty staying up late / waking up later than 7.30 (unless I'm obviously running on two hours of sleep). These cases are really hard because it's kinda difficult to organize things with people who have different habits and necessities than you, sometimes you need compromise though
I can't function on less than 6 hours sleep. I prefer a nice long 9 hour Sunday morning sleep-in every day. :)
In case anyone was interested, I recently got some information from a sleep expert. Apparently as you get older statistically your quality of sleep tends to decline. She said that sleep is influenced by many factors but also people are influenced by the literal times their brains begin to release sleep hormone signals which varies person to person (e.g. someone’s brain will start releasing these hormones at 9pm and another persons at 12am). Hope that’s insightful!
That type of cycling is really good for base fitness. You’re just sitting in zone 2 building up your aerobic base fitness.it’s going to be the quickest way to do that
The change of how much sleep I need from when I was 28 and when I turned 30 was pretty drastic, and the limit I could push myself was so different too. Even when you think you could handle it, you couldnt lol.
Can’t wait until these guys have kids and winter how they sleep schedule goes😂
Don't know how people function without sleep. I am super grumpy if i don't get sleep
Most of the time I only get 6-4 hours of sleep, and that's just because I don't bring myself to get to bed early enough.
A married couple fight?
Everyone sleeps different and has a different circadian rhythm to deal with. I literally work nights so my week is always weird for hours. Most days I only get 3-5 hours of sleep and sometimes I take a 1 hour power nap on my break at work 4 days a week then on Saturday I am off at 6 am and stay awake till 8-9 pm. Then I function days with 7 hrs sleep sat night, Sunday night and Monday night then Tuesday is a 30 hour day. I am up at 6:30 am and don’t sleep till weds morning at 10-11 am. But yeah, at 38 years old you start being unable to sleep or it doesn’t matter if you sleep 3 hours or 12 hours, you are just constantly tired anyways so it doesn’t seem to matter lol
You're never gonna feel peak energy if you dont sleep at least 6 hours every single day for the past month at that age.
If I have to wake up before 11 am that’s a bad day.
I'm not even 20 and my body can't handle 5 hours, either I need
where do i buy Joey's shirt
I'm 30 and work and my dog have both conditioned me to never get more than 7 hours sleep, even if I'm off work for a week and the dog isn't around. I can't even manage a lie-in any more. What I wouldn't give to be able to have a 12 hour sleep at the weekend!!!
Just sounds like poor time management and that’s it
i love duolingo but i get why people would trash it because it lets me get away with too much, ill probably sound dumb whenever i start being able to have full convos in Japanese. but i am learning and its fun
The boys arguing how much sleep you need to function
Me as a new dad: You need sleep?
I totally agree, as parent lol
It's not just the age, Chris just knows coming from experience with his previous videos.
I have to get up at 4am to go to work and there’s no way I’m going to bed before 10pm so getting less than 6 hours sleep is normal for me.... probably gonna have a heart attack by the time I’m 50 but its all good.
Dont joke about dying like that if you dont mean it. If you continue that trend itll be way younger than 50 that youll get a heart attack.

While I can function through a day on lower amounts of sleep - decent breakfast, coffee, water, etc. I wouldn't be able to do it for more than a couple of days continuously without llikely having major burnout :S Even normal sleep, my body has this annoying 'feature' where every hour alternates between bbeing enough sleep and needing more i.e. I can wake up after 8 hours and feel fine, but if on a weekend I decide to give myself an extra hour, my body suddenly decides than 9 hours isn't enough even though 8 was :P
Imma give this one to Connor in regards of safety and just sleeping earlier.
Bruh I'm 30 and the biggest limitation I have is that I need coffee to stay up past 11pm. It's not that bad. lol
Sometimes you just have to man mode it, like how I didn't wanna wake up this morning. I wanted to sleep in, but I man modded it and got ready for work.
Insomnia lets gooooo working everyday with 2-3 hours of sleep for 15 years!
I've started to take sleeping pills so I don't have to do that x) I still feel tired though
I think both Conner's and Chris's concerns are valid and I think both of them could be 'transparent' about their concerns and values and work to balance out their needs together while working to design a cycling schedule that meets with their needs or balances out the most important stuff at least.
Never get any sleep with Motorsport
I wish i was doing the cycling with them, i'm a sucker for these kind of things, plus it's in japan
i have to wake up at 3:40am nearly everyday, i go to sleep at 8:30pm but there are some nights i just cant fall asleep no matter what.
But i know there are other people relying on me to do certain things for me to wake up at that time, so even if i get 3-4 hours sleep i still get up and work the entire day and repeat the cycle and try to sleep at 8:30pm and wake at 3:40am.
You gotta just suck it up sometimes and make that sacrifice
I used to work doubles on 3 or 4 hours of sleep multiple times a week.
That was like 8 years ago. If I tried that now I'd fall asleep.
Cycling can be a really fun way to exercise because you can make an adventure out of it. But if you’re looking to start a daily habit it’s not a good exercise for busy people. It takes about twice as long to burn the same calories as running or jogging. Unless you commute by bike or something.
Can anyone tell me why the comment section is filled with ssuuiiii ? I am so confused. What context am I missing?
suiiiii
I’m wondering the same. What is going on.
Replying in case you get an explanation. I'm curious as well

After a day of fizical exercise I'm waking up when I'm ready and no sooner... I'm basically dead after.
Just get home and crash on my bed... there is no waking me up until I'm well rested alarm clocks be damned.
fizical lol
35yo cyclist here, I've raced road bikes and solo toured south America for 4mo . The ideal time is before or at sunrise, so something like 600-630. Fewer cars on the road, nice temperature (depending on season) and it gives you plenty of time to get miles in before lunch. The key to leaving on time is having everything setup and ready to go the night before. Eat a good amount of fiber (metamucil will change your life) so your poops are always ready to go when you wake up. I go to bed around 2100 so that helps.
That said, just wait till you hit 30, people always say this but you need to experience it. Shit definitely starts changing. I used to be able to pound beers all night and ride hard the next day in my late 20s, nowadays I'll have 3 beers and be horribly hungover for the entire day.
Also yeah, protein won't help you that much, what you need are calories, sugar and water.
Just wait for Connor pass the 30 mark. He'll understand
I’m 39 and if I get less than 6 hours sleep I am a mess the whole day.
And I'm over here happy if my body let me sleep for 5 hours straight lol and I'm 41
I feel like CZcamsrs have the "CZcams Sleep Schedule" where they all think waking up at 8am is really early - interesting to see how different their schedules are compared to the general 9-5 working population.
can't wait to hear chris's side when he gets on here
Damn, I've never been this early! I hope Connor and Chris are still cool 👀
Ive hit the big 3.0. And lemme tell you, this body has not been the same since.

Joey's Tee though 👀
100% true that energy levels are way different from 20s to 30s.
is garnt always so worked up with the hand stroking?
Oh man, there is huge difference in being 20+ and 30, I didn't believe it until I experienced it on myself
man when i was 25 i was a tank. I could deal with all kinds of weather no problem. Hot weather? no prob heck ill even wear these dark colored jeans and black shirt no problem. Freezing cold outside? no problem just a shitty sweater will do and my frozen hands and face will be fine with a bit of how water when i went inside. Now that im 32 being outside in the same Texas summer heat leaves me in absolute shambles gasping for air and feeling like im about to pass out. And the cold makes my feet like a fucking corpse as if ive lost my ability to keep heat. I feel like Allmight when hes huddling his little flame that once roared like a bombfire. I hear cavemen only lived to 40, are we meant to live pass that??? will i just be in eternal ache and pain once im 70?
You were never able to get away with less sleep. You were probably miserable to be around, unproductive, depressed, anxious, had the diet of a trash panda and were covering that all up with drugs and alcohol to the point that you had no idea what it was like to feel normal...and it took a decade to grow the maturity to see all the signs of self sabotage. Wierd that people tend to become more content and love themselves when they stop being self destructive and focus on health.
Most days I have to get at least 5 hours sleep to function properly but on Mondays (Sunday nights) I’m able to get little to no sleep and work fine
Garnt!!!! Want to do something incredible????? Take the boys to Thailand...!!!
Oh! Didn’t know Joey is a Xenoblade fan, that’s cool.
He mentioned liking xenoblade 2 in some of the older eps
"Just sleep earlier" is bullshit.
If you try to make me sleep earlier, I just lay in bed bored out of my mind for 3 hours.
Doesn't work.
Sleep earlier, wake up earlier. Not working?
Wake up early constantly no matter when you go too bed. Your body will figure out the rest.
Absolute madness in the comment section.
If i don't sleep enough i will go to bed earlier then normal. On average i go to bed at 10 but not in bed until 11 ish. Now lately im in bed by midnight which i don't like because my job start times can be as early as 8 am to as late as 230pm. So my body is constantly changing. Im alright with it but i would love to just have a 9 to 5 but i like my job so i deal. M
Im just lucky that i can deal for the most of times.
I agree with Connor's logic but I'm more like Chris in terms of sleep, I also hate waking up in the mornings. I need at the very least 8 hours of sleep and I can't fall asleep early aka before 12
It's not an old people thing to need more sleep. Old people just sleep earlier and wake up way earlier than younger people
I used to die after 6 hours of sleep, but then I had kids, and now I haven't slept for more than 5 or 6 hours for almost two years. It's crazy how much the body can adapt. For a long time it was hell, but now I'm not even tired most of the day after 6 hours of sleep.
Quick note: everyone is mentioning Chris thinking about health, but come on guys; we're talking about a week or so. You can do three (or whatever few) hours of sleep a day for a week without it having any long term health issues. You'll feel like crap, but it won't affect your overall health. You will recover completely after just a couple of days of regular sleep.
When you guys get to 50, you won't be able to get up out of bed. It'll be all over. Look up "bedridden," and your pictures will be there.
True chads only need 4 hours of sleep maximum.
And walk 12 miles, 2x per week.
And drink gallons of smoothies a day.
I completely get Connor, that you say "hey it's just for this week, change some stuff, you'll be alright later" but then again I also completely understand Chris bc I don't think I'd be able to pedal for 8 hours, get minimum sleep and then also take care of stuff going wrong behind the scenes. Probably just high tensions all around.
Connor and Chris does their fight like they are husband and wife XDDD
9:30am! Hell no. Up at 6, out by 7. Ride easy a couple hours and then get breakfast. Total cheaters way to get extra Ks done every day. But that also means you have to be showered and eyeing the bed by 10pm.
why is everyone saying “sui”?
Being in your 30s sucks, insomnia hits you harder for some reason and when you finally find rest waking up in the morning is absolutely miserable. At 24 I could run on like 4 or 5 hours easy. But nooowww oooof no way.
WHAT THE FUCK IS SUI???
Thats why chris have more energy than cdawg during the cyclathon.
