The greatest investment I ever made was buying a dealers test e-bike. Using it every day for a year then selling it for 150% cost, during the pandemic.
As a competitive cyclist, bikes are extremely expensive
To be fair if you mountain bike a lot or do any competitive biking you know the difference between a $500 and $3000+ bike is night and day. On top of that they are usually a lot lighter
"I cant update my bike" we truly live in a society.
a tip for connor that'll help with comfort is that you can get some bib shorts with padding and different saddles although identical at first glance actually make a huge difference to comfort long term.
Back when I rode downhill somewhat competitively I don't want to know what I spent on my competition bike. The only number I know is that I paid just north of $2000 on wheels(just the hub, spokes, spoke nipples, and rim) as I didn't feel like I had to go too overboard.
Road bike seats are tinny to avoid chaffing. Trust me u dont want a "comfortable" seat for your roadbike
Connor, you should get a bike-fit done. They basically put you on your bike and make sure everything is adjusted exactly to your body, even to the shoes and clips you use. It will make a world of difference. It'll get rid of the pains you may have in your arms, wrists, back, etc. It will even make the tiny seat bearable :)
Well I bought a big 400$ mountain bike 16 years ago, and it's still good. Generally the same for most expensive items, they generally last longer.
I'm a bike mechanic and dealer, and the bike he used, is actually considered low end in its cathegory :D . The fact is, Cannondale/Specialized and such simply charge you more than minor brands, for the same stuff. At the end of the day, bikes from different brands can have the same Shimano stuff on it, same wheels etc, and still have like 10-20% price difference because of the brand.
Dutch people like me can relate to this one:
When I bought my bike I went to a shop and this carbon fiber bike weighed less than 15 lbs and was 9,000 dollars.
The cycling market has insane margins. Insane profits. can’t say I’ve heard of anything else in the transportation industry that’s close to the margins on high end road bikes.
I liked how the Fluval aquarium light worked with its app. You could fully treat the light as a non IoT thing and it works great. You can also turn it on and off, adjust color spectrum, and some other stuff via the app.
Biking can be an insane money sink. You can buy a pretty good bike in the $600-$800 but also pay $2000 for wireless derailer and $1700 wireless dropper post.
$3000 is like mid low-end price range for a road or mountain bike.
I think you can get pad "wraps" you can put over seats to make them more comfortable.
I'm curious if you can rig the lights with an emergency add-on switch in case it happens again. You have lights and the battery connected already. You probably just need to add another cable with a switch to connect them or a couple wires and a switch depending how the lights are put together.
